Crock pot crazy

I leave my crockpot on low all day for 10-12 hrs. That might be a little long, as sometimes the meat will be a tad dry.

I recommend defrosting and browning your meat, but if you don't have time or don't want to, you can put in frozen meat. I've put in a frozen chuck roast and frozen chicken with no problems at all. But like I said, if you brown it, it will taste better... :)

good luck in your crockpot endeavors! :)

I have a Rival crockpot (the stoneware kind, not metal cooking pot) and I put frozen roasts in all the time. In fact I've rarely put it in defrosted & have never browned the meat first. The directions recommend adding a cup of cold water/liquid to the crock if your meat is frozen.

I don't add anything but sauce when using frozen meatballs.

this is a favorite at my house, learned it at my weight watchers class.

Ingredients
4-5 skinless chicken breasts
McCormick Rotisserie chicken seasoning

Directions
Cover both sides of chicken generously with rotisserie seasoning.
Take 4-5 sheets of aluminum foil and roll into balls. Place foil balls in bottom of crock-pot. Lay chicken on top of foil balls.
Cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours.
Yummy!

Have you tried the new crockpot liners for easy clean up?

yes! they are pretty cool...just throw away and you're done. I haven't been using them lately, though. I've found that spraying Pam inside the stoneware before you put in your stuff works pretty well...

Just found this thread..........I'd love more recipes!! I am such the bad cook, my crockpot seems like the answer to my poor family eating the same thing over and over and over again........ :rotfl:

I probably got this from this board years ago- a great recipe that makes your home smell wonderful! Like it says, it looks like a cake but when you scoop some out there is pudding underneath so it it wonderful with vanilla ice cream (to cut the sweet ;) ).

Upside Down Chocolate Pudding Cake~ very very good!
1 cup Bisquick
1 cup sugar
1/3 c. and 3 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1-2/3 c. hot tap water

Mix Bisquick, 1/2 cp sugar, 3 tbsp. cocoa, milk and vanilla. Spoon batter evenly into lightly greased crockpot. Mix remaining sugar, cocoa, and hot tap water. Pour over the batter that is already in the crockpot. Cook on high 2-1/2 hours or until batter no longer looks shiny on top. **NOTE: This literally ends up looking like a cake from the top, but surprise! When you slice (scoop) the cake, there is a layer of pudding underneath it. When finished, it looks nothing like what you put in the crockpot in the first place. This is a very rich dessert, so eat a small portion!

I love this! My favorite crockpot recipe is:

Crazy Chicken

3-4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips
1/2 bottle of catalina dressing
2 packages of dry onion soup mix
1 small jar of peach preserves.

Put chicken into crock pot. Mix remaining ingredients. Pour over chicken. Cook on high 4 hours or on low 6-8 hours. I serve this over rice.

I bought myself a crock pot this past Christmas and I love the liners for easy clean up. I used the pot to cook quick lasagna today. I got the recipe from Fix-It and Forget It Lightly. It is good.

Steak and Spinach roll ups

Round Steak
italian dressing
1 pkg frozen spinach
1 - 14 oz can of sliced stewed tomatoes (the ones I buy have onions and garlic cooked in them)
1/2 cup fresh grated parmasean cheese
3 garlic cloves
1/2 tsp black pepper

Take round steak and cut into strips about 10 inches long. You can have them as wide as you would like. I usually do mine about 4 x 10.

In a bowl mix the frozen spinach (drained and squeezed dry) and the tomatoes (drained) with 1/2 cup of parmasean cheese, 3 minced garlic cloves and 1/2 tsp black pepper.

Take the steak strips and brush with italian dressing. Spoon spinach/cheese mixture onto the steak and spread out evenly over othe top. Roll steak up and tie off to keep together.

Place in the bottom of crockpot on low (you can stack on top of each other if you have a smaller crockpot). I usually cook on low for 5-6 hours.

My 5 year old Son who I could never get to eat spinach before loves this dinner!

Thank you all for these. I spent over an hour yesterday just cutting and pasting some of these to a Word Document. Guess how I'm cooking dinner tonight! Told the DH to check out the recipes and let me know which sounded good to him. I love my crock pot.

I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday and bought a fantastic crock pot cookbook called Not Your Mom's Crock Pot Cookbook. It has 350 recipes in it, and they all looked really good. There is one for a ravioli casserole that I want to try this week.

Yummy! Thank you for sharing this...I made it last week, and it was very good! I had to make a few modifications to cook it for 10+ hrs...I didn't have catalina so I used Ken's Honey French dressing, 1 pk. golden onion soup mix and 1 pk. reg. onion soup mix, and 1/3 large jar peach preserves...I also added 1/2 can chicken broth and 1/4 c. white wine b/c I used frozen breasts with bone and skin. Basted out the oil before serving so we could pour the very tasty sauce over the chicken. It wasn't dry! It actually tasted even better a few days later reheated b/c I had stored it in the sauce. Would probably make good sandwiches...

Thank you for an amazing recipe! I will add this to my crockpot chicken recipe file... :)

Hey just found this post and can't wait to try some of these great ideas. Keep the ideas comming, I'm really looking forward to trying some of these meals with my DH. Between work and an hour drive each way, I usually end up cooking some kind of meal at 7-8 pm. :confused3

I did read that some of you brown ground meat ahead of time. I wanted to know, do you then freeze it so its sort of ready to use when you need it. Does it tase any different??

welcome! :) What I do if I have to brown meat or do a lot of prep is do it the night before and then put it in the fridge. In the morning, take the stoneware out of the fridge, pop it in the base, turn it on low, and go to work!
