Lori-when are you going to tell your school? I was going to tell them after the New Year. .. What they'll learn will last them a lifetime! Like someone said....most geography teachers haven't done the panama canal...and they're teaching it!

I too was thinking after the New Years. I don't want the teacher to hold it against my child b/c of a decision that I am making. This way they should already have formed their impression of my child. I am so glad to see other people onboard that value this as much as I do. It sure helps to rationalize the decision :cool1: :goodvibes

i am sensing we are going to need another drink list....ibouncetoo didn't you make this last year?

OK...trying to get caught up from what I mised after I had to leave work, but the word "DRINK" caught my attention!!!!! What's a drink list? I want one! Did somebody say DRINK?! :cool1:

OK...going back to try to get caught up again.

it is so much nicer to have a day at sea before disembarking than a port...we went on the double dip last nov and i have to admit that spending all day at castaway cay, then early dinner, then show left little time for packing....it is easier to get it in the lull of the afternoon on the sea day!

I was going to use my 100th DIS post to defend fellow Minnesotan, Prince. But I decided to post a frozen pipes story instead.

Daunte Culpepper, former Minnesota Vikings quarterback, used to live close by. He lived in a huge house in a very exclusive gated community. (We live in a non-gated community on the other side of the tracks.)

Anyway, at the end of another disappointing football season, Daunte closed up his Minnesota house and went back to his home state of Florida for the off-season. And he turned off the heat in his house before leaving. His pipes froze and then burst and the water damage was so bad that his house had to be gutted and rebuilt.

Everybody felt sorry for him because he’s from Florida and didn’t know any better.

But he did the exact same thing the very next year! And his house had to be gutted and rebuilt again!

Fortunately he got traded to Miami the year after that so he doesn’t have to worry about frozen water pipes anymore.

Smart guy, huh? :rotfl2:
Well, after my fiasco, I've learned my lesson and will run the water lots when it gets this cold for so long. It's just unusual to be this cold here so many days in a row. This has never happened to me before. All the plumbers in town are swamped going to thaw pipes and repair ones that already burst. :sad2:

Good Morning!

-4 here today, -23 with the windchill, and all schools are closed!

They never close school for cold weather here. I guess the school board would be afraid we'd be closed all of January. I would have loved it if they would have cancelled school this morning. I was faced with below zero weather and I had committed to a sub. teaching job today. Really didn't want to drag myself out there. :sad2: Then I had a real stinker of a class today. Doesn't happen often, but they really decided to act up for the sub. today. :headache: I'm teaching preschoolers later in the week. What was I thinking taking on that assignment? :scared1: Let you know how it goes.

On the designs for the cruise, you might want to take out the word "Disney". Our friend, Ken, got the letter from the Disney Attorneys saying to cease and desist when he first posted the designs on Cafe Press. He called asking what they objected to. All they would say is maybe you should get your own attorney, we can't tell you.

He took the word Disney out of the shirt design and re-posted on Cafe Press and all has been well since.

These should be fine because they're not the Disney font or Disney style letters or whatever it's called. It's nothing like how Disney prints it. Plus it's only on this site, not posted elsewhere on the internet for sale or anything. Not taking profits away from Disney, not being provided for general public use, so should be fine. Dunno....just my guess.

Oh that's too funny. DBro forgot to shut off the water for one of his outdoor hoses this year and it exploded a couple of weeks ago. Luckily the damage wasn't too bad. Hopefully he learned his lesson!

UH OH!!!!!! I didn't even know there's a separate place to turn those off. Guess I'm in trouble!

Elizabeth, and everyone else saying prayers for us all....

The police have arrested a 54 year old woman and bailed her over this. They found the car on fire in a nearby road. So, not only did she fail to stop, it seems, but then deliberately set out to hide what she'd done....there are some very wicked people around.

Also, I just found out today that my friend was in hospital having an operation herself when her daughter was hit, and couldn't be taken to see her before she died. That made me so so sad.

Life is just so short and precious, anyone wanting to make the most of their time with their children on this cruise should go for it I think.

That's so awful! :sad1: :grouphug:

What a terrible, tragic story!! My heart and prayers go out to your friend and her family. I agree life is too short. When I was 29 years old, I lost my first DH to a drunk driver. He was run off the road, went over a cliff and was killed. The driver called in the accident, ran away and was never found. I too agree life is too short.

Noel,

That is horrible. I am so sorry!!

Ok - sounds like we are all in agreement that will bite the bullet and tell the schools after the holidays! This will be perfect - we can all bond together if they come back screaming! I don't think our school will, but individual teachers is another issue. So great idea to have them get to know the kids first.

All these sad and moving stories sure help reassure me that we are doing the right thing. I can't wait to have Mickey Bars for 15 nights straight with my little ones!

Oh no! That must have been so hard for you :grouphug:

My parents took us out of school for family vacations. My dad was a police officer so we went when he had the time off. I ended up loosing my father at age 20 and my mom at 28 and those are some of the fondest memories I have is all of us being together as a family.
