Thank you for posting this. I have a few more questions. I understand the foot is clear--great to be able to see what you are stitching. Now, here are the questions. What exactly does the quilters foot do? Is it for embroidery? Would you use this instead of hand stitching on an applique? Why couldn't you use a satin stitch for the outline of pluto? I am going to go back and re-read your post to see if I can understand a little better. Thanks again Sally!

Pluto isn't that big. He's only about 3 inches high, maybe 5 inches wide. I did the zig zap (satin stitch) around the outside, but even the narrowest (is that a word?) stitch would have been too big. Since I had this foot, I thought I'd try it and it worked pretty good. The foot is so you can do freehand sewing. There isn't a feed, so you can move the material all over. (I have a plate to cover the feed dog). So I used it instead of hand stitching. I think I only paid a couple of $ for the foot.

This is the jacket I use the foot for usually. I don't know if you can see the stitches on it. On Pluto, I used it to "draw" the paws, the collar, the lines in his back. I just used a small stitch and went very slow.

DRAATS!

My "subject" is asleep so I can't try this princess skirt on her. I DID measure the elastic around her waist WHILE she slept :rolleyes1

I'm doing the "Sewing for Dummies" pattern (Simplicity #4206). I have to say, I love all the extra tutorials included in the pattern instructions. It has extra tips and doesn't assume you know ANYthing...perfect!

I know this is off topic, but my dd is sick! She's not yet 3 and she was throwing up a couple days ago and has been having fevers off and on. Now she has a measles looking rash alllllll over her body. I don't think it's heat rash. Great! I'm taking her to the kid's Insta Care a little later. I just get so worried when my kids are sick. Goodness only knows what the sam-hill this is. Send a little pixie dust and especially prayers if you want.

I'm so sorry that your little one is sick. Is it chicken pox? Hopefullynot...has she had any immunizations recently...just a thought...

Okay, now I know I'm out of it.

UTAHMAMA I missed the part where Norah is really sick. I'm so sorry, I hope your're getting enough rest. Is Norah feelling any better? I'll say a prayer for ya'll.

For those wondering about the disney machine, here are a few that we did. Be careful with the type of stabilizer you use, it can gum up the needle and break the thread. :headache: I'm still learning how to get the right placement for the pictures. So here they are.

Can anyone spot the mistakes!:rotfl:

I'm sitting here wondering what happened to some of the designs..I have the same machine. Did you change bobbin thread as you went, or have the tension too tight? I use white as my bobbin color, and make sure it's full before you begin the design. Once it starts, I don't remove the hoop from the machine, just change the color. Also make sure your tension is loose enough that it's not pulling, around a 4 or 5 is good, and also use good embroidery thread. There's my 2 cents. Oh yeah, a good iron on stabilizer is key also..and get the hoop nice and tight...

ESAB Do you still have the pattern for the rhinestone mickey's? If it is okay, would you post it for us? Pretty please? :flower3:

I'm sorry, but I can't. As part of our transaction I promised the seller that I would not. I will email the seller and then if she agrees I will pm you her id and you can contact her to see if she'd sell it to you. She set up a custom package for me in which she included the pattern and the materials to make two of the shirts. She sells the shirts in her ebay store, so I can understand why she doesn't want the pattern passed around.

I would love to know her Ebay store. I'm interested in buying one. I don't want to make one.

Welcome! Post more often if you have time! I really love both the Friends around the world and the "hello" fabric. THey are both adorable. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Go to the community board and you can boost your post numbers! :welcome:

Thanks for the tip! So just how many times must I post before I can attach a picture? If it's alot, I may never make it!

That's what I tell my kids anyway! DS has me in stitches when he was telling the lady cutting fabric that I liked to sew but I wasn't very good because it took me "like a whole week" to finish a project. I thought I was doing pretty good! :rotfl:

That is too funny! That sounds like something my ds would say. Luckily, he was out of town with my in laws for the week I made my first outfit.

Do you have a picture of the back of this dress? I am trying to figure out how to make this style and I know the front but I've never done the halter style before so I need to see the back. Or if you could easily explain the back that would work too. Also how did you attach the straps to the back elastic? I would prefer that rather than tying around the neck. My girls would find it bothersome I think. Thanks for any help.

Can anyone tell me more about the ruffling foot? Can it be put on any machine or is it for a specific one? Is it worth buying if I plan to do LOTS of gathering? Or just keep doing it the hard way?

I love that pattern. What pattern is it? I was looking for patterns for me to make me a couple of shirts for WDW, but got bored and left Wal-mart. Probably due to the fact I have a broken foot and was putting around on their motorized carts and that made my foot hurt, so I left.

It's Simplicity 3621. I changed the bodice. Instead of cutting two for the front and the back and then dealing with adding a button, I cut one for the front and one for the back on the fold.
And I just used ribbon or bias tape for the tie.

I heard someone mention that is $30, so it seems like a worthwhile investment. I have a Kenmore and was also wondering if it would work with any machine. I would love to have an easier option!

I LOVE MY RUFFLE FOOT ... There's Low-Shank & High-Shank Attachment feet style, I suggest taking one of your feet with you to compare Your foot to the ruffler at the store (unscrew the entire foot attachment from the presser-foot-bar & take it w/ you) ... Compare the placement of the sewing hole (where the needle goes up & down through the foot) ... Also, Compare the placement of the attachment screw hole (where the screw goes to attach the foot assembly to the presser-foot-bar) ... IF those two are almost exactly the same, you should be fine, double-check it when you get home. ...
With a bit of patience & practice, this foot can be VERY USEFUL. :)

GET RUFFLED ;)
how to ... use a ruffle foot attachment ... PIXS!

Tips: Thread the needle before you put on the ruffler. Be sure to check that the needle goes down into the hole before you stitch. Check your thread tensions, it could just be that a thread is not threaded on the machine right ... Try sample pieces to check it's working right. Then w/ the actual garment, Go slow at first :) ... Have Fun!

My machine is very old, do you still think it might work?

IF the new foot has the same height from bottom to attachment screw, AND the hole for the needle to pass through are the same as your older foot = you SHOULD BE Good To Start Ruffling ... =) ...
Once you get the ruffler foot home, put it on the machine = slowly test the needle (by handwheel, not pedal), to make sure the needle can pass through the foot like normal.
IF it doesn't, return it. :)
IF it does = Get messy with some scrap fabric strips! :)!!!
Play around with it for awhile & you'll get the hang of it, in no time.
