princessleighs dad: Those outfits are nicer than some things sold on ebay! You could sell them Im not kidding.
Nanascustomcreations: I have to contact you sometime this winter to make me two of those pirate dresses. I love those so much! My twins have autism and couldnt stay up for the ppp this year,I dont want to chance paying the price for the whole family and have to leave when they start crying from being tired, but next year,Im planning on it. I will want those dresses,so i will start early. your daughter is sooo lucky to have you right in the family!

I haven't looked for one @ WallyMart = I dunno if they carry them.
I bought My Ruffle Foot at JoAnn's, a long time ago. (Approx. $15-18 ?)
I've seen them at Hancock & Field's Fabrics, too.
IF the ones you find at those stores don't work for your older machine, then I'd suggest checking the Regular Sewing Centers.
They'll probably either have one instock, or can GET one.
OR just go there first. I'm not sure how much their mark-up is, it might not be much. :)
IT'S TOTALLY WORTH THE TRIP TO THE STORE !!!
After you get used to using it, you won't believe how you ever lived without it :)!
Here's pictures of mine, it's original packaging, and my foot I compared it to. :)
As you can see my machine's not "new", from the 60's or 70's (dunno exact year made).

CLICK PICTURE TO ENLARGE IT

What a cool machine! My mom used to have an olive green singer. I wish she still had it. I'd love to have it on a shelf just to look at. I know that a lot of those are really worth some $$$ too. She also has a thread display fof a store that is about 100 years old that she keeps her thread in. I think I'll take a picture of it this weekend while I'm at her house and show you ladies. It is pretty cool!

I'm going to make dh stop by Missouri sewing machine company today while we are out on our Home Depot run. I need to get a light bulb for my machine. I haven't changed it in the 5 years that I've had it and every time I sew I am nervous that it is going to burn out and I will just be stuck in the middle of whatever I am doing. I might just pick up a ruffling foot while I am there! One question about it. Once you ruffle can you adjust the ruffles to fit your garment? I guess I'm not sure what to do if the ruffles aren't tight enough or are too loose for what I need to attach them to.

You may want to check out the website JCarolineCreative.com. They sell ribbon by the yard. Once I discovered that site it was the end of running all over town trying to find the perfect color or print ribbon to match my girls' outfits. Some of their prints are so cute!

Too funny! I was trying to remember this website last night. I had it bookmarked and then the computer died.

I am going to order a bunch of ribbion once I have all the girls outfits complete. I want to do one big order for the bow supplies.

Thanks for sharing!

It does look a bit scary, doesn't it?!
IF you've never seen one in action, or felt it = the first time you do, it's weird & still sort-of "scary" ... but then you can see what it does & how easy it is!
I got that foot at JoAnn's ...
It's made by White, but it fits just about any LOW-SHANK footed machine :woohoo:
Singer, Morse, Viking, Brother, Bernina ... etc. ;)

My Brother Serger SUPPOSEDLY can Gather & Serge at the same time, but after many, many hours trying to get it to work right, I gave up & bought this puppy. I Love it!

My babylock serger does gather and serge. I can't remember what nob I have to turn, but it does it. I just don't ever use it because it doesn't gather very full and I felt like the gathers were hard to keep in while I attached it to my garment with my sewing machine. I am sure that I probably just wasn't very good at it, but after a while I gave up. I have come to realize that I am not a serger girl. I like the feel and results of sewing everything with my sewing machine much better.

I tried to do a Mickey Pirate Head. It is an outline of Mickey with the hat on. I would print two and cut Mickey out and then the hat. Then I would trace onto cardboard. Cereal Boxes have a good weight. Then you do not have to worry about printer ink and you have a nice stable pattern.

Here is the Mickey someone sent to me.

Can you do a Mickey/Minnie with a Santa Hat on, Please? My dimensions just look off when I try to draw it myself and since you're an artist you probably have an eye for proper dimensions. Thanks.

Sure I will give it a shot. Let me work on it and I will I post it later.

How many of you ladies pre-wash your fabrics? I'm used to working with upholstery fabric, so no prewashing there. I have that large minnie dot fabric and I pre-washed that before I started cutting and sewing, but its such a pain. Just wondering if I'll need to do this on all the cotton fabrics. I thought some of the manufacturers pre-washed already...so I'm confused. :confused3

I always prewash everything. Especially if I am combining more than one fabric. I would hate for one to bleed onto the other. I wash it all without fabric softener and then Iron it and use spray starch to get it nice and "crisp" to make sewing easier. If you are going to use anything fusible you'll want to leave out the fabris softener and the starch though so you get a good "stick".

Okay!

I have been a busy girl planning out my girls outfits. I was going to the fabric store and buying this because it was pretty too much!!!!

Here is the Ohano Breakfast outfit. I am doing it for both girls. I love the Lilly hair bow. These Lilly's were my wedding flower!

Like this one I made? (I have yet to finish the pants---sorry!)

I bought a cute red blouse at Lane Bryant with white polka dots! Ala Minnie Mouse,

And I also made myself a shirt out of this crazy swirly fabric.

I'm off to Lane Bryant!

I saw that swirley print at JoAnn's. You did it justice...VERY flirty and cute!

dreamer - I didn't even notice that was Mickey head fabric until Utah posted it again.
We went to JoAnn's last night and couldn't find any cute disney. :(

This is great!! Our fabrics are almost identical. I was able to buy a good ammount at Jo Anne's. It was 50% off and ended up being around $3 a yard. Love the flip flops!!

I was thinking about doing red like Lilo and then I saw the pink flowers and was sold.

Thanks for posting.

I have a ruffle foot that came with my machine (a ten year old singer that was my mom's but she never used it). I am very new to sewing and have no idea what I'm doing really - I luckily have a neighbor that helps me out when I sew but she doesn't know about the ruffle foot either. I have always made my ruffles by doing two rows of wide stitching across my fabric and then pulling on one of the threads to ruffle. I kind of like this b/c it allows me to decide how tight I want the ruffles. Does anyone have pictures of ruffles made with the ruffle foot? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much! I'll post pictures of my outfits as soon as I get enough credits.

I know how you feel - I had five outfits for my girls and I loved them all. I know that it's not the most practical of things to invest time and money in but I loved the outfits and the way they looked in pictures. Also, I loved the way people stopped and asked about the outfits when they were wearing them. My girls loved the compliments!

Thanks so much. One more question. Is the elastic casing separate from the back skirt part and then sewed to the back skirt, if so did you ruffle the back skirt part like the front or does the elastic just do it for you?
Amy

Hi Amy, the back piece is seperate from the elastic casing. You could do it all the same piece I guess. It will ruffle itself when the elastic is in the casing. What I do, is when I make the casing, I sew along the folded edge, like topstitching, and it will make the ruffle more pronounced.

sponge bob halter and twirl skirt
As I was posting these photos, I'm thinking whew...he's done, finally. Now I noticed that his socks are missing the red and blue stripes. :sad2: I guess I'm not done, after all
and his little dots on his cheeks...
Anyway I made a simple twirl skirt, and the halter has a shirred back. I like this style because it's a little more form fitting. The halter, came out okay. It looks like it's missing something.

Is there a pattern for the halter? I have an older daughter but this looks modest enough I"d let her wear it.
thanks[/QUOTE]

Hi, I used pattern...McCalls 5088. It's the one on the top right, letter F.

OK, so be gentle! This is my FIRST attempt at sewing and using a pattern! My MIL usually does all the sewing, but I have her so loaded down doing other vacation outfits, I thought I'd try a simple on on my own. Nothing fancy AT ALL, but I'm happy that I actually finished it!

The ruffles are SO bad, but if she moves real fast and you aren't too close up, I think don't anyone will notice! ;)

I'm sorry, but I can't. As part of our transaction I promised the seller that I would not. I will email the seller and then if she agrees I will pm you her id and you can contact her to see if she'd sell it to you. She set up a custom package for me in which she included the pattern and the materials to make two of the shirts. She sells the shirts in her ebay store, so I can understand why she doesn't want the pattern passed around.

I'd be interested in her store as well!
