In search of my body...not the one I ate!

As promised…. Here are the photos…

OK – and for the final image… my shoes…. I just love them…

So - there they are... I am getting there, and Erika - you will like this part. Looking at these photos has convinced me to get out and exercise... I am signing up for a spinning class to see if I would like it...

Talk to you soon,
Paula

PAULA!! What a difference! I also love the outfit in the progress pic... I agree, so polished and put together. And the shoes are fantastic.

I have never tried spinning but I in general don't like the bike. I thought it was the tall/long-legged thing but Erika just blew that theory out of the water! :rolleyes1

I was so excited to hear i'm not the only one shackin up with a shorty ;)

I love the fact that i can't wear heels for the wedding, now i get to wear crocs :lovestruc

Weigh in didn't go great this morning, i gained, but only .5 lb, so considering the drama of the past week or so, i suppose i can't beat myself up too much over it! I'm really looking forward to this weekend, i have NOTHING to do! It's great! no wedding stuff, no errands, not even LAUNDRY :cloud9:

Can anyone share some of your packable lunch & snack ideas? I bring my lunch everyday and have been reduced to eating a lean pocket everyday, and since that isn't uber exciting, it has caused me to want to go out to lunch with the girls at work alot more. And Bruce is a snacker, so i need some ideas to mix it up so we don't resort to crap. What can i say, it's taking longer than we thought to kick our college eating habits... (2-3 yrs? Ooopps)

Thanks!!

My lunches tend to be labor intensive... I pack a soft-sided DVC cooler with the makings for a salad and a wrap, most days. So, head of romaine, cucumber, onion, salad dressing (kraft light three cheese ranch), deli turkey, flax seed pita (60 cals), laughing cow cheese wedge (35 cals). I use the turkey, pita, cheese for the wrap and add some onion, then make a salad with the rest. I have a plate, fork, and knife at my desk that I wash and reuse daily. I also sometimes add a sliced apple and a cottage cheese.

My other fav is to get the grilled chicken caesar south beach wrap kit, and combine that with a salad.

Erika, you are a posting fiend!!

Let’s start back in Spring, 2006. This was the first picture I posted and probably one of the first few images where I knew I needed to do something about my weight. This is probably the biggest I have ever been and it scared me…

I am so impressed with you Paula....you look stunning and that outfit with those shoes makes it look like you just walked out of a high fashion photo shoot...

Your shoes rock..I never even have seen anything that sexy!! YOur feet look skinny!!!:lmao:

That reminds me...who bout the "skinny" sneakers?!?!? :lmao: Was it DWD? I think so....

Get your butt in gear, girl, so we can see the skinny sneakers!

I agree Dawn...I am BLOWN AWAY by how good Paula looks!

Ok, so I thought I would share this. Since I never see the scale move, I have to find other ways to know that I am making progress. So one thing I often do is go back in this thread...I pick a random date and see what we all were thinking/doing/feeling at that time....and where we have from there.

THIS is what I found! WOW WOW WOW!

In this post, I was just about to start running (and now I am The Marathon Mom...see? I am trying to make that part of my new self-identity!) and I was in a horrible place after trying on some clothes in the store. Today? Loved my shopping experience and felt so proud of myself. All of this in only THREE months. This post was made 3 months ago today. It is hilarious...there I am talking about "I don't have time for the gym...." and now it is like my lifeline!

Also, at this point...SG/Liz had lost 28 pounds (now up to 50!), Dan opened up to us all for the first time, Kat was just under 190 (now just about to be under 170!)DWD/Liz admitted that we all have an incredible "pull" on her...and I am happy to say that we are all now velcroed together! :rotfl2: and lots more!

We so totally ROCK!

Hi everyone! Just home from work, the house is quiet, and I can catch up!

WELCOME SUSAN! Based on your post, you are gonna fit right in, girl!

Ok, I am kinda depressed at the moment. I have had a perfect...I mean perfect...10 days. Not one cheat in 10 freakin' days. I've been feeling good, proud of myself, knowing that I am finally going to deal with this once and for all.

So, I went to LL Bean today to retrun/exchange some stuff. Feeling so good that I have been fitting into more clothes recently, I thought I might get myself something...just a fleece top or whatever (I live to be ensconsed in fleece! ).

I am sure you know where this is going...I head into the dressing room....and...:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: OMG! It was awful--I mean just god awful. The thing fit--no problem there. BUT...they had those 3-way mirrors (more aptly glass torture of doom)! I saw rolls where I didn't think I had any rolls!

More depressingly...I looked at myself in that mirror for a while...and man oh man, it sure looked like I had gained...and I mean A LOT. I don't think that is really possible (as I would notice it in my clothes), but it was so awful. Maybe my mirror at home is a skinny mirror? Or the store mirror was a fat mirror? It is also "that time" so I may be somewhat bloated. But let's face it girls...bloating does not cause fat rolls!

So now I am doubting everything. Maybe I should stop South Beach and try something else (I had great success on it before). Or maybe I have been eating something that I thought was ok but actually isn't. Maybe I just wasn't in reality about how big I have really gotten. I don't know. But I am bummed.

I may *gasp* start running tomorrow. I have to do something. I have never been a runner, but I am willing to try. I used to be an aerobics instructor (yes, really....:lmao: c'mon, stop laughing at me...it's not THAT funny or unbelievable!) I am definitely having a hard time getting my exercise in. I have always said, if I only I can get into a running routine, I would be in great shape. There are plenty of times when I have 30 minutes...and all you have to do is throw on your shoes and sweats and you are ready. (With my schedule, getting to the gym is impossible....or at least it seems that way.)

Anyway, any encouragement you want to pass along...I could sure use it tonight.

Paula - I see definate change. You look great. Very Professional. And the shoes! Oh mama! Lovin me some giraffe print shoes.

I was thinking of you today. What kind of vechicle do you drive? I wondered if living in the mans world had you driving a truck too?

I was so excited to hear i'm not the only one shackin up with a shorty ;)

GOOD LINE!!! I need to make a journal of the one liners you gals zing out.

I love the fact that i can't wear heels for the wedding, now i get to wear crocs :lovestruc

Ohh, enjoy the peace. Be a slug. I'm gonna sleep in, but then I need to fold clothes. I don't mind washing them, but I don't like the folding.

...your pink parts will never be the same!

:lmao: Tag Fairy, I got another one for you.

Enjoy sleeping in! I plan on doing the same...

And even *I* am not that fashion blind!! Anyhow, brown shoes take too much effort.

PAULA! you look GREAT! (and those are some HOT shoes!)

Thanks... I am working on some lunch options for you... I bring my lunch with me every day, but some days you have to treat yourself too... I'll post some ideas separately for you...

OMG! I definitely see a difference! A great difference! You have made LOTS AND LOTS of progress! Seriously....very impressive! And of course, you have earned goddess status! :worship:

I really like your whole outfit, hair, etc. Definitely look pulled together!

As for spinning...I am SO PROUD of you for getting back to working out! :cool1: But I caution you about spinning. I wish Nancy was here, but she is in WDW...she really likes it. Me? I had a TERRIBLE experience. This was a couple of years ago. I was in OK shape...not great, but certainly not sedentary. So I thought I would try a spin class. The good thing is that you are in charge of making it as hard or as easy as you wish (you control the tension). So I figured that was good...if it was too much, I would just release all of the tension...and no one in the class can tell how high you have the tension on your own bike.

Well, seriously....no workout has ever HURT me like that one. And I don't mean a "good hurt" from working out. I mean injured for like 10 days hurt. I could not walk down stairs for over a week without significant pain after that one class. Whatever that did to my muscles...wow. Ouch.

Additionally, there are .... ummm...issues with the seat. People who spin a lot have their own special cushioned seats that the bring with them...because otherwise, well, how to put this delicately...your pink parts will never be the same!

Believe it or not, I am not trying to talk you out of spinning. Many people love it and are addicted, so my experience must not be the norm. Maybe it is just the way my body is put together....that spinning is just a torturous activity. :confused3 But definitely talk to the instructor beforehand. Let her know that you have never done it before and that you are new to fitness, etc. and see what she recommends.

I would recommend the elliptical for you...great work out and no impact. The most important thing, though, is that you are back in the game! (And lookin' SMOKIN" hot, I might add! :smokin: )

Thanks for the encouragement and words or wisdom / caution for the spinning class. I am still trying to find a class that will work with my schedule and my abilities / limitations. I'll keep you all posted on what I find out. I need to schedule something in to get me started. The swimming class was great, but the instructor started cancelling classes and that got me off track and frustrated because I was spending money and not seeing any return so I decided not to re-up for the next session. I need to find something to take its place and heard a lot of great things about spinning. I have no idea if I can handle it or not, but I thought I should try. Worst thing is I don't like it and don't go back right... I'll be sure to watch out for my pink parts as you say it...

PAULA!! What a difference! I also love the outfit in the progress pic... I agree, so polished and put together. And the shoes are fantastic.

Kat - thanks for the kind words. I am a work in progress so I didn't label my second photo an after picture. I am lovin the blouse from Kohl's that you picked out. (I can't wear that style since the high waist tends to make me look pregnant - scary thought...) I agree that the sandals should definitely be black to match the skirt... You will look fabulous...

I am so impressed with you Paula....you look stunning and that outfit with those shoes makes it look like you just walked out of a high fashion photo shoot...

Your shoes rock..I never even have seen anything that sexy!! YOur feet look skinny!!!:lmao:

Dawn - I love your last line..... They are the only thing that look skinny on me right now.... Gotta love pointy toe shoes... Of course, I can only bear them for about 4 hours before me feet hurt so much I want to cry. How can women wear those 4" heels and still walk.... Its impossible I tell you...

Paula - I see definate change. You look great. Very Professional. And the shoes! Oh mama! Lovin me some giraffe print shoes.

QUOTE]

I have a Ford Focus right now, but my first car was a Chevy Suburban and I owned a small pick up truck for a few years (I inherited it from my dad). I love a good truck, but prefer my car... The gas tank is much cheaper to fill. You are right that I live in a man's world. It is especially funny when the guys on my site remember that I am a women and not just one of the guys. One day last week, I had just gotten back from using the ladies room (one benefit to being a women in a man's world - you usually don't have to wait to use the bathroom...) and when I left, I was the only one in the office but when I got back, I had heard my boss' voice and the voice of our superintendant. Now I have to walk through their office area to get to the back where the microwave is so I grab my stuff and head for the back. I no sooner cross the threshold of the door and I see my boss in the opposite corner adjusting things with his belt open, etfc. I do a quick turn around to give a man some privacy and head back to my desk trying not to laugh...:rolleyes1 My boss finally realizes what happened and begins to stammer trying to apologize, hide his embarassment, etc. He forgot I was there. Guess I am officially one of the guys when you boss feels comfortable enough to almost drop trou in front of you....:rotfl2:

Oh and Erika - I can swear with the best of them... My nickname at work is the closet pitbull because I am all nice and sweet and accommodating until my trust is betrayed. Once that happens, the contractor's see my attack and usually they are left beaten and can be heard muttering - I didn't see that coming... or I didn't think she had it in her or man I got whooped on that issue. They usually follow up with, I won't let that happen again because that was plain awful.

Have a great night everyone...
Goof

(2-3 yrs? Ooopps)

Thanks!!

I may not be the best one to ask this because I bring my Jenny Craig meal for lunch, but I get sick of the salads that they want me to eat with them. I mix things up by bringing frozen veggies (some brands even have singles that you can heat up in a few minutes), or raw veggies with FF dressing to dip, etc. If I can't bring an entree in, I'll either make a small sandwich or wrap and fresh veggies. Soup is another great option if you like it. You can always look at some of the WW or Lean Cuisine options too if you are looking for something different. One other thing is to not limit yourself to traditional lunch items. If you like cereal, have some cereal with fruit and skim milk. Add a bit of cheese for protein and some baby carrots to snack on and you have a satisfying meal. If you like eggs, you can make an oven omlette ahead of time using egg beaters, ff cheese, and veggies, cook it in muffin tins to control your portion sizes (I have a recipie for this if anyone is interested). Bring one or two of those to heat up in the microwave, pair it with a salad and you have a great crustless quiche lunch.

If you enjoy going out to eat with the girls, you should go, but limit yourself to once a week as a treat. Look for lean chicken sandwiches or salads and watch your portion sizes. That is usually what gets us in the end I think. We are trained as a chile to clean our plate, but no one stopped the restaurant industry from increasing the sizes of the average portion so our waistlines grew with it. Something else I have done is ordered a garden salad when I was out and ate my JC meal when I got back. It is not the best option, but it works.

As for snacks, I tend to go for the single serve bags of pretzels (fat free and usually only around 100 calories). You can use a spicy mustard as a dipping sauce for another low calorie option. If you are craving sweet, the 100 calorie snack packs are another good option to keep your portion control in check. I also like the jello fat free puddings when I am looking for something decadent. WW also has some yummy snack options in a pinch.

Hope these options help,
Paula

Hmmm, so this is what it is like here at night.

Get this, DH and the kids are asleep and I am NOT going to the gym. Here is my super lame excuse. I stubbed the living h.e.katsx2. out of my toe and it hurts to put my shoes on. I know, I am a wuss and should just woman-up and do it but I don't want to. If only I had an adult beverage to dull the pain.:rotfl: I don't think a Caprisun would cut it.

Erika, :lmao: Nope, I didn't miss your post. and BTW, :thumbsup2 on the attitude, adjusting shopping trip. And I think we need to get you your own hockey stick. You and Kat would be a force to be reckoned with.

DWD, NJ/Liz'z Em was singing your song...:rotfl2:

NJ/Liz I would wear the tiara (is that how you spell it :confused3 ) proudly. I bet DH would pay some money to see that so you could probably make a profit if you play your cards right. Funny DMB story, this woman I used to work with is a HUGE DMB fan and literally, everytime she goes to a DMB show she gets pulled up on the stage. She has seen them in several cities too. I am sure it helps that she is drop dead gorgous. I hate her a little but she is so freaking nice she forces me to like her.

What got into Ms. Green? I am glad she decided to join. Though it sounds like she is going to keep you busy.:scared:

Kat, I understand the security concerns. I am here for you if you want to share. Oh, and the top you got is very pretty. you are a girly girl...don't whack me, my toe hurts

Paula, Wht are you talking about? Not a dramatic difference?! I can see a really significant difference! You look great. And hello Hot shoes. Are they comfortable? Do they make them in a sneaker version?

Brcs, Enjoy the weekend of frreedom. You certainly deserve to relax. Re: snacks with lunch, I have been taking a ziploc (I almost called it a zippy..:headache: too much kidspeak) with baby carrots, snow peas, broccoli (how do you spell that!!!??) and cherry tomatoes with fat free/calorie free blue cheese dressing in a little tupperware container. BTW, the dressing is by Walden Farms and I would not say it tastes like Blue Cheese per se but it is edible.

Dawn,  Don't let Dan leave us...:sad1:

Honey, I am 12 years out of college and still kicking my college habits! :lmao: I make sandwiches, usually. Lean turkey and light swiss on good bread, with mustard. They are usually 4pts, so that's 200 calories, give or take. I like the whole grain breads and rolls - better for you, too!

PAULA!! What a difference! I also love the outfit in the progress pic... I agree, so polished and put together. And the shoes are fantastic.

Kat, love the shirt! I was in Banana Republic tonight and took a picture of a shirt for you! I'll have to email it to you. I know, I'm insane. :)

Kat, good choice. I like it. The strappy sandals should not be brown:lmao:

I hate folding, too. HATE it. It's so annoying.

I went out to dinner and shopping with Ms Jealous aka Greenie. I bought a cute top, a present for a friend, and tried on jeans that fit. Size 14! And Greenie told me I looked small! Will wonders never cease?

Greenie and I are taking a spin class Sunday. I'll let you know if I can still have marital relations after it's over. :rotfl:

Ok...on to the really important stuff....SHOPPING! :lmao: Ok, the truth is...I love shopping. That is, I USED to love shopping...until I gained weight and looked square (as wide as I am tall). Then I entered schlub mode. And shopping has been for necessity only.

So today it is beautiful here...70 degrees! Just gorgeous! And of course, I have nothing that fits or looks good (since I am a running goddess and all :rotfl: ), so I made an impromptu trip to Kohl's. And here is what I have to say:

I LIKE HOW I LOOK!!!!!

Yes, you heard it here first! I look freakin' fabulous! I tried all size 6s and smalls. And I got two super cute outfits...things I would have NEVER worn before. Outfits that make me look like one of the "well turned out" moms (Kim, that phrase was just so perfect...that is exactly how I feel they always look...Goof said it well also with the perfectly coiffed comment.)

Hey, I went to Kohls today for the same reason! I had exactly ONE short sleeved shirt in my closet that fit! So I got 10 new ones for only $97. Most of them are 1X. Last time I shopped I was getting 3X.

Can anyone share some of your packable lunch & snack ideas? I bring my lunch everyday and have been reduced to eating a lean pocket everyday, and since that isn't uber exciting, it has caused me to want to go out to lunch with the girls at work alot more. Thanks!!

Do you have a thermos? Mine has been indespensable for me! Like tonite, the kids had double cooking classes--one from 4-5:30, another from 6:30-8. No time to go home in between, so I took them for pizza. Well, I can't eat pizza (no wheat or dairy). So, I brought my own! Leftover tortilla soup from last nights dinner, along with the organic tortilla chips. Stayed nice and hot in the thermos. You can put anything in there--soup, chili, pasta, leftovers, whatever you like.

I have to admit, my lunches are kind of in a rut too. I was eating salad every day for over 2 months and finally I just couldn't eat it again! Went almost a week with no salad, now I have one every few days. I usually do leftovers, or soup or chili or something liek that. I'd LOVE to be able to just make a sandwich or a wrap, but that's not gonna happen for right now.

Paula, I think you look lovely. Your shoes are way cool! I couldn't even STAND in shoes like that, let alone walk. I'm trying to figure out what kind of shoes to take to Scotland. I don't think my usual Crocs or sneakers will cut it when I have to dress nicely.

Shopping? Well, it depends on my mood. I LOVED it today at Kohls. i'll probably enjoy taking DD12 tomorrow (altho I HATE the mall...) Mostly I love to shop online. Come June, when DSis comes home and we head to Talbots to stock up on a new wardrobe for our trip, THAT will be the shopping I love. Clothes that fit, justification for buying, styles I really like, AND great company. The best way to shop.

Lilly Pulitzer is a pipe dream for me. I am WAY to pear shaped to ever wear her stuff, even if I was a size 10. Now Vera Bradley is another story entirely. I have her luggage, 2 backpacks, about 5 handbags, and a bunch of accessories. New Hope was my favorite. Even DD has a bunch of stuff in the old bright pink pattern (forget the name, Pink Pansy???)

I am going to try to do some catching up here this weekend. There's so much I just don't KNOW on here, that alot of the posts just don't make much sense to me. So if I don't respond, it's becuase I'm basically clueless. (Which is my usual state of mind lately....)

Off to bed now--got a busy day tomorrow.

Hey, I went to Kohls today for the same reason! I had exactly ONE short sleeved shirt in my closet that fit! So I got 10 new ones for only $97. Most of them are 1X. Last time I shopped I was getting 3X.

Thanks for the kind words... I am a shoe aholic - I think it was because they were something from the normal sized section of the store that I could actually wear.

If you are looking for comfy yet non sneaker like shoes, try the Clarks brand. They can be a bit pricy, but are worth it. I wear them at work almost every day or at least on the days I am not out in the mud... They have all types of styles and colors to choose from, but the technology is still the same. Also, since you are a Talbots fan, try to find a Talbots outlet if you can. They are awesom. I picked up a blazer there a few weeks ago that we originally $212.00 and I paid $15.00 for it. I am not kidding... my mom once bought a dress there for $5.00. Well worth the trip...

Have a good night.

You will look fabulous...

...

This one is actually tighter fitting around the bust and waist than it looks in the pic. The empire waist style w/ the elastic right under the bust isn't very flattering on me either.

:lmao: at your story

Hehe... I am so not a girly-girl... I only picked that out after Erika and Liz gave me pointers last night!!!

Paula...if you have AIM, post it and we will invite you in to our chat....

DWD--where are you? Having relations again? :lmao:

Thanks for the invite... I am not on AIM yet, shocking I know, but I never really embraced the whole IM thing (or text messaging for that matter). I will look into it though since it would be fun to chat with you all in real time.

For now, I am off to bed. It has been a long week and I need some zzz's if I am going to make it through car shopping with my sister tomorrow (she's buying, I am advising...)

Have a great night and I'll catch you all tomorrow,
Paula

Don't know what AIM is?

I wish I was having relations. :lmao: But alas, he is sound asleep, and I don't know, for some reason I feel like exercising.

It could be:

A. Erica's shopping story
B. Paula's pics
C. Liz's inspiring Ms. Green
D. The weather was nice and I felt full, tight, in my jeans and t
E. My daughters looked so light and springy today and I want to match them

Is that enough? I just might do it.

I know. I have skinny little cousin's in law. Beauties and cutting edge fashionista's, and they can run all day long on pointed heels.:rotfl: I have "safe" "grandma" heels and I gimp outa church on Sunday.

:lmao: I peged you a truck gal. We have a few trucks and the gas bills are getting worse every month.:scared1:

YIKES, I hate stubbing my toe. Makes me want to throw something thru the window, but then I'd just have to clean up the mess.

I am gonna buy that VB tomorrow. My BFF pointed out a 25% off coupon at our local sales shop. Whoop Whoop

:rotfl:

That is SUPER news. And that will just make things easier for you. Exercising in numbers, good. But I'll miss the Greener stories. They were fun, in an evil way.
Now Vera Bradley is another story entirely. I have her luggage, 2 backpacks, about 5 handbags, and a bunch of accessories. New Hope was my favorite. Even DD has a bunch of stuff in the old bright pink pattern (forget the name, Pink Pansy???)

I don't have any VB yet. But a couple weeks ago, I stopped into the local shop. The sales lady was telling some gals, "The new VB beach towels are in. And the capri pants." So they were oohing and aahing. I head over. (How much is a VB beach towel anyway? Apparently $36!) She asks, "Do you want to see the capri pants." I defered. I'm trying to hide my @$k, not plaster it with a paisly masterpiece!

Yes, there is alot of history here. You'll catch on soon enough.
