Tomorrow SWA opens up Nov. fares.....what time do you think???

WHY have I not gotten my return flight confirmation email yet... It has been about 2 hours!!!

I have a question about SW credits. Are they transferable? If I get my tickets now and then a lower price comes up and I get a credit, can I transfer them to another family member? My sister flys all the time, but my family does not fly very often. If I had a credit I could sell to her down the line, it would make it worth it for me to book now. Prices were higher than I had hoped and I'm trying to figure out what to do. I have little ones so I REALLY want nonstop. I don't want those to fill up and go away if I wait.

Thanks!

You can absolutely do this! :thumbsup2

I ended up only getting my returning flights. There are 9 of us in our party and 3 different leaving times. We are returning to Nashville.

I got my mom and her group (3 people) leaving on Monday the 17th for $94 each.

I got the kids and I (5 people) leaving on Saturday the 22nd for $119.00 each.

I got my husband his ticket leaving on Saturday the 22nd for $160.00 (he is going to Connecticut so his ticket was more)

I originally had us leaving on Friday, but is was so much more.

I just don't know what to do about our departing flights. Right now they are $193!!! per person.

We got $279 round trip non stop from Long Island to Orlando. It's about $60 more per person than I wanted to spend, but I'll just hope that the fares go lower and I can rebook. We were booking with a friend - we both clicked - order - at the same time and her's was kicked back with an $11 per person each way more expensive flight! Unreal.

I called Southwest when I found out the fares were opened and the price for the same RT that I booked at $279 was quoted me at $355! Un-stinkin' real.

I hope you are all getting what you wanted. I'm just praying for a price decrease! $1116 for the four of us is a little hard to swallow.

Thanks Mommyto5! That's what I was hoping for!!!

I think I will book today. :-)
One thing to keep in mind....if you book now, hoping for a price decrease later...the price decrease may be LESS likely to happen since the plane will already be more full of passengers, like yourself, who book at the higher rate. kwim? If the plane is already getting full, no need to offer many discounts. :confused3

Same thing w/ the hotel rooms. Pp often book, and hope for a code. Well codes aren't offered on as many rooms when they already have high booking rates.

I got antsy about a month ago worrying about gas prices, so I looked at other airlines, and saw Airtran for $101 each way and jumped on it, especially since they were both nonstop. My stomach has been in knots since then worrying that I did the wrong thing, until this morning...
Flying in and out of Dallas, the cheapest I could find, $406 RT!!! :faint: Slightly more than DOUBLE what I already booked, and none non-stop! I 'm so glad I did Airtran!!:hyper:

What is this about Airtran's schedule not being finished?? I bought tickets, and haven't heard from them, so should I worry? Will my flights be cancelled? Good lord, from one panic to another in under 10 seconds!:scared1:

Do I have this right???

My departing flight is $193.

It is a Wanna Get Away ticket.

I know that these ares are nonrefundable but may be applied toward future travel on Southwest Airlines.

So if I get them and then cancel them if a cheaper prices comes out...does that mean that I have a credit with Southwest for $193, and that $193 is applied to the cheaper ticket.

Wouldn't I end up having credit with Southwest that can't be used since the tickets would be cheaper.

Let's say the flight goes from $193 to $143...$143 of that credit would be applied to the NEW ticket, leaving you with $50 excess credit.

That $50 credit would have to be used on a FUTURE SW flight, no later than the expiration date of the credit (which is one year from the date the original ticket was purchased. So...purchase today, and any credits that result from changes to those flights expire on 6/26/09)

That's crazy! I was booking 5 tickets and was afraid of this happening. I was typing so fast trying to get all those names in. I re-read my confirm a bunch of times praying that I didn't misspell anyone!

Thanks so much for explaining that to me!!!! :thumbsup2

The price of my outbound to FLL has gone UP $20pp since I booked it two hours ago.

Yes, I was thinking that myself. Suppose you book at $60 and you later want to transfer the ticket to your friend and the offered fare is now $120. You have to cancel your original ticket and then give your friend the $60 credit. Your friend can then rebook at the $120 fare and apply that credit. You can't transfer the actual ticket, so it may cost more. (However at least your original credit is not lost..)

That's true, but I wasn't willing to risk a)the prices going up or b)my flights selling out. I was comfortable with the price we got although it was at the tippy top (ok, actually a hair over) my max budget. Any higher and we really would've had to rethink plans. If the price goes down and we can get a credit it'll be a bonus.

I got the days and times I wanted out of New Orleans for four people for $1088. I had put aside $1000 so it wasn't a big shock to me.

I can't believe I'm even looking into this. Just checked AAA online. My house to Disney is roughly 1250 miles. Assume 20mpg = 60 gals of gas. Since this is next Nov let's say $5/gal = $300 gas money EACH WAY!

Ok, now it's a 20hr drive so w/ 2 kids we need to stay in a hotel 1N. $140 (it would be over Thanksgiving. Wonder if I can even get a room! And we'll need one on the ride back too) = $280

Don't want to incur the wear/tear on our own vehicles so renting a car I find one for $440 unltd mileage. (this was a quick search, I'm sure I could do better)

Sooo

driving down, my cost for my family is $600 + $280 + $440 = $1320 PLUS the time in the car w/ my precious children (will we still be speaking by Disney???) and food along the way...and how tired will we be upon arriving....and oh, the vacation is cut short b/c now we LEAVE on Thanksgiving (won't that thrill my parents) AND we have to leave a day early to allow for the trip home! Oh, and how LESS fun will the car ride be home??

I suppose since we're thinking of renting a car we could drive down and fly back:

Gas: $300
Hotel $140
Rental $220
Fly home: $400 (IF I can score $89 seats) probably more likely to be $520 ($120x4 plus taxes)

+ $1060 or MORE!

Nope....we're not driving to Disney! I guess maybe I should rethink buying our rnd trip tickets at $1300 right now!

True but those passengers have a reservation on a flight they like, a flight that will be flown and with a fare they're willing to pay. Any credit is a bonus.

This is the first time I have ever even considered flying SW. Midway is farther from my home than OHare and I am not wild about the seating situation. But we thought the savings would be worth it to try.

Today it will cost us $339 pp to fly SW. To fly on American out of Ohare (at a comparable time of day) is almost $160 more pp (before their crazy baggage fees). To fly United, the price is comparable (BEFORE their crazy baggage fees) but not at the same time of day. PLUS with United elminating the TED brand, which does most of the Orlando flights from Ohare, I believe, I am not even certain if some of these flights will even be in existence come December.

Yet, despite all of this I still can't bite the bullet and buy those tickets. :confused3 I don't know what I am waiting for since prices are only going to continue to climb.

I was able to use my reward ticket on the day and time I wanted. Usually I sell it and just buy my air outright, but unless it goes down a lot, I don't want to mess with it.
Two one way tickets from Ft Lauderdale to Albany (we are taking a repo cruise) would have been $299. Makes me wonder what people are getting for the reward tickets! Maybe I shouldn't rule that out LOL!
