I had to un-decorate my room window!

The window was drawn on, maybe that had something to do with it. So far the opp who have just applied clings and mickey heads have not had a problem. I can see how they would want to discourage people from "drawing" on the windows.

Whew! This makes me feel a little better! We are not planning on writing on the windows or using tape so we should be fine! We will use suction cup hooks instead of tape!

What did the op use to write on the window?? It's kinda hard to tell from the pic....

There are markers formulated specifically for writing on glass. Not sure if the OP used those or not. My friend's kids had them, so I haven't ever tried to clean the color from the glass. It might wipe off pretty easily, or it might require some elbow grease. :confused3

We've never decorated our window. :confused3

I think the problem is that Disney can't be sure that people writing on the windows are using markers that were made for that purpose.

My DH and I stayed at Pop July 5th-12th and decorated our window.
I used clings, and taped the Dollar Store Pixar place mats to the window.
I thought the tape might leave residue, so I tested a few kinds here at home.
I found one that left nothing behind and used that on our window.
We were on the 4th floor, near a pool and I doubt very few people saw our window, but it was memorable to us.(and the little girl who knocked on our window monday morning at 7am as her and her family left for the day..she was so sweet!) Thats was mattered. I cried as I took everything down the night before we left. :sad2:
I don't know why Disney would discourage this, except for the markers on glass. I've known people to take walks of the resorts to look at the decorated windows. And kids who find their rooms eaiser with stuff on the windows.
Hopefully this was a one time incident. :confused3

I have a feeling it was due to the markers more than anything else...

When I was in high school and we'd travel for cheerleading and choral trips, someone would inevitably write on the hotel room windows, which would be followed with either a phone message or a note slipped under the door saying clean up or you'll be charged extra. Those of us that hung posters with tape or hooks never had that problem...

I plan on taking Windex wipes, Goo Gone, and paper towels for our window, in case the tape leaves icky residue...

We are heading down to POP on Friday and had planned to decorate our windows. I have the Mickey Heads from HD and made signs on the computer for all the birthdays and anniversaries we will be celebrating while we are there. I had planned to hang these on the windows with tape. Do you think we should still do this or should we just not decorate our windows with anything but stuffed animals?

Gotta be the writing that initiated the call. Dollar store has pkgs of suction cups. So make signs that can be held on by suction cups. Or cardboard backed signs that can be propped up in the window.

Michaels also sells for not much $ magnetic photo pockets that you can put on the outside of your door. They come is all sizes form 3 x 4, to 4 x 6, to ones that hold 8 1/2 by 11. This is one way to switch up your pictures or signs easily each day.

Your signs should be fine. Just go to Wal-Mart and buy a 4 pak of small hooks on suction cups. No tape or goo residu to worry about.

Blessings,
Winnie

im at this time planning our very first trip to wdw. since being on these boards, i have received and read alot of great information. i am planning on decorating the window and door of our room. at work, when we hang signs in the windows of the two front doors, we use double sided tape. when time to remove them, it comes off very easily even after being in the sun for two or three weeks at a time. have yet to have any issues using it. what residue that may be left easily comes off with windex.:thumbsup2

Except using tape on a window is vastly different than using tape on a painted door.

You could very well ruin the paint.

I just came back from my June trip and spoke with the housekeeping. She said my decorations were fine as long as I took them down, all and everything down. The problem with your situation was that you physically wrote on the windows. That's like vandalizing their property. Know what I mean? clings and just papers with tape easily come off, but writing on there is more like graffiti. Know what I mean? Your window looked nice, but that's what it was. So not to worry all, go ahead and decorate. They are just that. Make sure that the paint doesn't come off if you stick on the painted areas. Sorry for your dissapointment there, but now you know for next time right... Cause there will be a next time....

OP here,

I guess I did not give markers a second look because they were washable and designed for use on chalkboards and glass. They came off with water, but a mousekeeper just walking by would not have known that.

We were staying at the All Star Sports, and were there for Magic Music Days. We saw several other "groups" at the resort. When we checked in many had their windows decorated (with signs, clings, paper cut-outs, etc.). After our phone call, I noticed that all the decorations started disappearing, even window clings and things attached with suction cups.

Must be something with that resort, or the manager in charge during our stay.

ITA. It's probably another case of a "few bad apples" who didn't clean up after themselves, who cause problems for everyone else. However--tipping very well on your daily tips to mousekeeping may help smooth the waters. I could see where mousekeeping would automatically assume "oh great additional work" (and remember they are timed on the number of rooms they must clean)--there isn't any time in their schedule to do extra like windows. Sad but true.

This makes sense....it's a shame a few people may have taken advantage.

How about just charging if it is left up when you leave ??????????

Hey, Folks !!!!!!!!! Clean up behind yourselves..... in the parks, in the restrooms, in the rooms, in the bathrooms - everywhere!

Now there is an idea....or charge a $25.00 decorating fee for all guests choosing to decorate. And when they checkout if the window was cleaned up then they get a $25.00 refund.

I recognize that this is important to other Disney guests.

Maybe they have a new manager? Last September we stayed at All Star Sports and I saw several windows decorated.
