I agree, but I am still more disturbed by people hating a stranger. Hate is such an ugly emotion and I don't understand wasting the energy it takes to hate someone like those people seem to do.

that is very true.

the whole thing is just bizarre.

I assume, because it came from TWoP that the founders of GWoP were just forum participants. We know (as much as we can truly know anything about this) that they don't know the Gosselins. Is that correct? They aren't neighbors or disgruntled volunteers, right? I never read the thread over at TWoP, and don't know much about them. I stumbled across it after finding Aunt Jodi's sister's blog.

I said it a while ago, and I'll say it again. The hate stems from jealousy.

These people have said it over and over again. Kate gets free clothes from Gymboree, free trips for her family, free products to advertise and supposedly a free house from TLC. Why even care?

I completely disagree with these women contacting Paul Peterson in an effort to get him to pull the plug. They could care less about how the "poor little 'tups" are being exploited for television (allegedly). They just wanted to see Kate's money train derailed.

It's just a pot full of crabs trying to pull the other crabs down.

THANK YOU! :thumbsup2

I agree, it all stems from jealously.

I just don't see people hating Kate as much as them being in disbelief. I have read about and followed the show since it was a special and even followed the family after the tups were born, before there was a show. She is quite a character, and brings a lot of controversy on herself with her actions and words. Most every encounter people have with her is out of the ordinary. There are extremists both ways when it comes to her. People definitely have strong dislike, or an unabiding love when it comes to the show. The ardent supporters who don't know Kate Gosselin amaze me too.

And the jealousy argument...I don't get it. What in the world do they have to be jealous of? I wouldn't trade my privacy and my kids' privacy for all the gymboree in China (or wherever it's made). They've given up friends, family, what could be more important? This family has allowed itself to be scrutinized, judged and broadcast through some very private moments. No way would the majority of people make this trade off for the perks of fame.

I think her non-supporters reference these things (the perks) because for so long this family cried "poor" and didn't acknowledge that practically everything they have is donated or bought by TLC. Many people who don't support her and/or the show, seem to want the family to "come clean" and portray their lives accurately if it is reality TV (which we all know doesn't exist)!

Money is more important.

Money is more important.

I'm not sure what your tone is, but, yeah, money is extremely important. You can have lots of friends and family, but if you have eight children, money is going to be on the top of the list of priorities. Heck, if you want to live a comfortable life with modern conveniences as a single person, money is on the top of the list. It sounds cynical and greedy, I'm sure, but I know I can't live without it.

I don't hate Kate... but I have never understood the jealousy angle. well, I guess I could see where other people might be jealous, but not me. I cannot think of one thing I've seen in her life that I'd want for my own. Well ... maybe the Gap & Gymboree clothes, LOL. I might like that.

But the rest of it? No thanks. It all (even the clothes) comes with strings attached. Strings that I don't want any part of.

I know you're really young, I bet you're pretty sharp, and I hope you wouldn't put money before friends and family. Nothing material replaces people, ever. I bet you knew that before I wrote it, but the Mom/teacher in me...you know.

I'm a newbie to this thread. I've read a few pages and my jaw is on the floor. I had no idea this show was "controversial" at all or that there are blogs about it or anything else like that. I've watched the show off and on since it began and I enjoy it just like any other TV show. Some parts I like better than others. I can't imagine reading so much into it. It's just a show.
There's my 2 cents. But I'm guessing the producers of the show prefer some good riled up controversy over no chatter at all--brings in more $$$ :)

Can anyone here think of a TV show that has created such ruckus? I'm 40 and not sure that I can.

are you old enough to remember the loud family? they had cameras in their home and a 10 or 12 part t.v. series came out of it in the early 70's. i think it was probably discussed as much as j&k but since it was looooooooooong before the advent of the internet it was'nt as apparant (it still managed to be on all the talk shows and to this day capture viewer's attention enough to have made it into several top 100 tv moment polls even several decades later). that show was very much reality-it captured the family 24/7 and the interviews the children gave later in life about the negative aspects of being in that situation for even a limited period, and how the presence of the cameras and the filmmakers molded and changed their reality/familial interactions should serve as a cautionary tale for anyone who were to consider doing these types of shows.

The Duggar show starts tonight...and Jon and Kate! Yay!!! :goodvibes :cool1: :woohoo:

Just set the dvr for the Duggar show....I will admit they freak me out and I think they are really weird so that's why I'm watching!! Sort of a circus freak show if you ask me.

That woman is my age and is pregnant with #18!!! That whole "buddy" system they have is too weird for me.

I was born in 1968 - I don't remember watching that show. It sounds fascinating!

I remember this show vivdly, even though I was young. It aired on PBS, and it was fascinating. I can remember watching it with my mom. That family really was screwed up after that show. I think i will google them and and see if anything current comes up. I don't thing the Gosselins are going to do very well in years to come, especially those twins. They are already high maintanence.
