It's a New TCD Trip Report- June 2010 at the Fort!

Well. here I go on another tangent, but thanks for the close-up shot!

I didn't notice the pirate flag.

I wonder what this was all about?

I did notice that there are two boats in your photo, both of which appear to be heading to the Fort. This doesn't usually happen- they are usually spaced apart. Does the other boat have a pirate flag? The 2nd boat did not have a pirate flag. My guess is that the 1st boat was some sort of special excursion.

It looks like there are a bunch of people standing on the beach next to what do, indeed look like sailboats. I wonder what they are all doing there? The only thing I can think is this is the dock and they are lined up waiting to the launch to the MK.

And, Shafke, could you post a close up of the bow of the shipwreck- where the pole is lashed on there? This is actually a part of the shipwreck which was discussed on KFK's thread, and your photo could help resolve some issues that have arisen there.

Thanks!

TCD
You know, I have been ignoring that thread for the longest time. Now I had to read the whole thing to find out what you were looking for.

Here is a picture of the bow. I increased the contrast and brightness to bring as much detail as possible.

I would say the bow has not change except for the missing spar. You can just make out the rounded/spiral end.

Speaking of pirate flags...

There is a third type of boat that is sometimes used to ferry guests from the Fort to MK. I had never seen it before our last trip. It's more of a flat bottomed-boat. Maybe it was in use due to Bay Lake being choppier than usual during the nice May Monsoon of '09? Anyway, back to the pirate flags...

It was flying one! Thought it was pretty cool. When we docked at MK, they even played part of the POTC song.

Maybe I can find a pic and attempt to figure out how to post one...

There is clearly a walk and step leading to what appears to be an entrance door:

So what is this building?

My first thought was that they just made a very elaborate storage building to blend in. Seems a little extravagant for that, though...

It was a little funny (well to me anyway), that the bike racks were just past the "No Bicycles Past This Point" sign:

We also found that amusing and took a picture. Thought about sending it in to Jay Leno for headlines awhile back. :)

The pirate flagged boats were the ones that took you to Discovery Island. I remember those from when we went in the early 80's. The first time we headed over there the captain of the boat told us about pirates living on the island, pointing to the shipwreck and frightening us kids by saying if we were acting up our parents could sell us to them. I was terrified the whole time.

Were pirate flagged boats always used? I don't remember them. Memory is a bit fuzzy, though...

So here's the boat I mentioned earlier...

and an upclose... (so yeah, the flag is a bit small, but there nonetheless)

and another view... (DH is holding DD at the right of the picture)

and for good measure, a couple of rain shots.

Oh, and one more pic from the pirate boat. It really has no bearing to anything, except DD is making the WEIRDEST face. I think it's pretty funny. :rotfl:

Okay. Thanks for letting me jack your thread momentarily, TCD! :goodvibes

Like I scooped for the 3000 loop - this will be the location of the Plymouth Rock and Roll Revue - exclusive ADRs given the the 3000 loop campers.:rolleyes1

By golly! That's it! This is where they are going to put the 3000 loop! Good catch!

TCD do they just sell Disani? Do they sell both Disani and Zephyrhills? If they just sell Disani the Zephyrhills truck might be delivering the 5gal bottles used by CM.

I think Disani has the exclusive rights on bottled water. But, I seem to recall gallon jugs of water at the Trading Posts. And, I think it might have been Zephyrhills. I do think you are right about this truck delivering 5 gallon bottles. I'll bet they have water coolers at the Bike Barn, and somewhere at the pool for the lifeguards, and this is where the truck pulled out of.

Good job!

That is what I was looking for!

I will have to get that posted over on KFK's thread.

I think that is the same bow.

I didn't know that pole is called a spar.

That sounds better than pole.

I know the type of boat you're talking about. They use them for pirate cruises at the Contemporary. I never saw then use one for transport to the MK, though.

Ah, the good old days.

The captain would get fired today for saying something like that.

I'll bet the pirate themed boats go back to the days when Discovery Island was Treasure Island.

This is the building I have always wished were converted to a counter service restaurant. Either that, or a casino/massage parlor.

Casino/massage parlor?

Why aren't you the President of WDW?

Great job on the hijack!

I appreciate a good hijack.

Seriously, thanks for the photos. Those are the boats that used to be at Animal Kingdom, and which are currently used for the pirate cruises from the Contemporary. I never saw them use one to transport guests from the Fort to MK.

And, that is a WEIRD face your daughter is making, isn't it?

TCD

Disani has the exclusive rights on bottled water because Coke owns them and Disney gets the product for FREE

. . . . .

Yep, they sometimes use that boat to ferry guest from FW to MK. We have ridden it twice and it is the s-l-o-w-e-s-t boat you have ever been one. Luckily they don't use them too often. I remember other people complaining about them also several months ago. I think the only time we rode them was in Sept/Oct 09.

If you ever see one of the boats coming to pick you up at FW, just go ahead and jump in the water and swim to MK, you will get there quicker.:laughing:

That is the truth! :rotfl:

These are the old River Cruise boats that used to be an attraction at Animal Kingdom. When they introduced Fireworks excursions as part of the Magical Gatherings program years back they brought these boats over to use for cruises. At Animal Kingdom the boats were made to look well aged. They got rid of that look and cleaned them up for use on Bay Lake / Seven Seas Lagoon.

I understand that alot of people like golf carts and they do need a place to park. However, we have bikes. Lots of people have bikes. Lots of people have expensive bikes. We get really tire of having to park our bikes in the sand. It gets in the chains and makes a mess. Bike riders really need a place to park that doesn't include sand. Tired of feeling like second class citizens. I think there is room for everyone, don't you???

I would rather park my cart on the beach. That said I parked my bike at the rack's on the beach for years and never thought a thing about it.

Wow, you guys are all nuts. Especially TCD. Just got home from a 9:15 PM shift out of MK. Had something to eat and decided to check the camping board. Reading the posts on this thread put a smile on my face. Nice way to end a night.

Well, it's true. Someone has to maintain the integrity of the investigations conducted via this Board. So, nothing is official until TCD says so. ;)
TCD

Amen. I'm with you on that point. All facts/rumors must be validated by the official TCD stamp before being deemed "official".

The mystery of the Cowboy's butt?

This doesn't sound like something I want to know more about.

Is it an old Hardy Boys book?

Never mind.

Let's just leave this one alone.

TCD

OK, now we have communicated enough for you to know that I cannot let this go. It is NOT the mystery of the Cowboys butt. It is the Mystery of the scenery to the right of the cowbows butt. There is a HUGE difference. I cannot allow myself to be accused of attempting to turn a sacred TCD TR into the Brokeback Thread of 2010. That would be just plain wrong.

I will add that it was not me who first mentioned the Cowboy's butt. :rolleyes1:

No it was not a Hardy Boys Mystery...at least not that I am aware of. Enough said. :lmao:

Hmmm. I have not seen these boats used to go back and forth to the MK, and I didn't know they were so slow. I'll have to keep an eye out for this.

I have an inside info that Brian is going to day shift.

From the Mayor's lips to God's ears.

Just kidding.

I like Brian.

And, Donnie, if it was Brian who told you this- don't fall for it.

It's a trick.

He will tell you he's moving to day shift, and the next thing you know, he will be staked out one night at midnight on the Exercise Trail waiting for you to drive by on your cart, or he'll be set up next to the cabin behind the 300 loop with his night vision goggles.

Be careful.

I agree with you. This is a reasonable request. It is dumb to have the bike racks there in the sand. There is surely room somewhere in this area to provide a better place to park and lock bikes.

Yes, enough said.

So if it isn't a Hardy Boys mystery, then was it a Nancy Drew?

J/K

No more talk of the Cowboy's butt.

I'm serious.

I wonder of when they built Pioneer Hall in 1973-74 if they didn’t just build it for future expansion maybe a saloon or a bigger restaurant.
