I wish this was a sticky.....there is alot of great info on this thread!!

Thank you to those of you who added your invites! They all look great! :thumbsup2

Wendy - these are really great! They are very much like what I want to do!! :yay:

Did you use cardsandpockets? Was it hard to get everything printed properly? Do you have any tips, pros or cons you could share? thanks so much! Also, would you be willing to share the text of the inserts?

Kelly - wow your engagement announcements are lovely and your invitations are very, very elegant! thank you for shairing them! :)

Leah

Thank you! We did use Cards & Pockets for most of the supplies including the pocket fold, the insert paper, and the actual invite paper. Other than that, we made HUGE use of Micheal's. That's where we got the remaining supplies including the polka dot ribbon belly band, paper flowers, yellow colored paper and polka dot paper. Oh and the glue tape too!

We printed everything at our "work" (we're grad students so really at our school) on a laser jet printed which I highly recommend in place of a classic ink jet because the ink doesn't smear as easily. Also, we didn't use any sort of shimmery metallic paper where we printed, because that would cause the ink to smear even with the laser jet printer, even when "dry"!

My wonderful DF printed out all of the inserts for us, which includes measuring the lengths to make sure they would all sit perfectly and evenly when against one another. The insert paper you get from Cards & Pockets is great because it's already measured to fit in the 4x7 pocket so all you need to do is cut the height to what you desire (we did it using a paper cutter to ensure straight lines). The actual invites were printed on their bulk 8x11.5 paper, where we fit about 2 invites per sheet...then we cut them using the paper cutter on very light dotted lines that we printed around the invite to show us where to make the cuts.

We figured out the border sizes our own. I wanted to make sure the polka dots were visible, so we made that 1/4" and the yellow was half that at 1/8".

I really enjoyed making our own. We originally went through an Etsy seller, but the experience was horrible for us and she just didn't "get" my vision of what I wanted. So when we took it on ourselves, I got to include everything I wanted...and I'm NOT crafty at ALL! :confused3

I hope this helps any DisBrides lookin to make their own invites. :woohoo:

Here are the JPEG files of the inserts in order of how they appeared in the invite.

Thank you so much Leah! I actually had never posted them before...first time for everything! :goodvibes

Everyone's invites are beautiful... I don't even know where to begin. Did you have them printed yourself? What program did you use? How did you design them! I really need to get mine out soon!!! Our wedding is September 14! Any advise would be helpful... thank you!:confused3

I designed and printed my own (but I'm also a graphic designer so this is all in my line of work!). I use Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, but many brides who have posted on here have also been very successful with Photoshop. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about design and congrats!! :goodvibes

There are so many great ideas in this thread! I want to start in on my paper goods right now. Blasted two-year wait, grumble grumble.

For those of you who DIY-ed your invites, what kind of printer did you use? I have an old printer, and tried to print on custom sized cardstock last night, and my printer will not print the artwork in the right size! It comes out half off the page! :headache:

I'm looking at a few Epson printers now, but wanted to hear what worked best for you all. I'm kind of hating HPs at the moment too.

We had our stuff printed at Office max. It was pretty cheap and way easier then printing and cutting ourselves. If you need straight cuts, they will also so that for you.

I'm making passport invitations! I'm totally excited about them, I can't start until after we set the date though :P 6 more weeks until the meeting with the coordinator!!

Here are mine! I made them from scratch myself. For those who asked about printers, I used an HP, but mine was really easy because I just had to print out the wording and cut it out, there was no design or specific paper size to worry about.

These are absolutely stunning! I wish I had a DIY bone in my body. It's killing me to pay the price we are going to pay for 25 invitations (the minimum you can order) when we only need 10. However, if I attempted anything like this, they would look like my 4 year old flower girl made them :(

LOL! I hear ya!! I had to find STDs and invitations (for our home reception in December) that even had no assembly required. I realized I am DIY impaired when I opened my Tiffany champagne glasses, to ensure they were wrapped well enough to ship to Contemporary, and could not for the life of me figure out the ribbon to tie the box back up!!! :confused3

These beautiful invites really show guests how important they are and have such a personal touch. At least I can get some Zazzle stamps to add some personality!!
