I'm joining this thread, bear with me, I'm new to this posts and all.

And another :welcome: from me. Hope you find the thread useful - I know i do!! :thumbsup2

Just an FYI for those who have mentioned the possibility of using leftover euros to apply on to their on board account....not sure you will be able to do that. When I've been to Europe with DCL, they have ONLY accepted US Dollars for onboard accounts, and ONLY accepted euros from those with a Proof of Purchase receipt issued by DCL to agree to buy back what is extra (that they exchanged on board).

Maybe I misunderstood, and maybe there is a different agreement with non US citizens (??), and hope I'm wrong about this, but I would double check with them about having that option. If DCL were staying in Europe, some CMs enjoyed getting them as gratuities, but since it's headed home, probably not. We always used up the last of our euros in the last port, usually for tips for drivers or tours, but then we never had more than a few left at the end...lol

.

I live about a mile from Sam Moons... so I have lots of sparkle hair bling...lol

If you booked a GTY it is usually a very restricted reservation, not allowing for any upgrades at port. The only possible upgrades are "usually" if DCL upgrades you when they give you your cabin #....

Thanks for your info. I called Disney and there is no prohibition on purchasing an upgrade if available at the port. I was curious about actual experiences. I can only assume by the lack of responses that the subject is played out, etc.

Will keep fingers crossed and see what plays out. Excited to be there. Everything else is a bonus!

The only problem with using my ATM card is that my bank charges for transactions at anyone else's ATM. I can't recall how much - I'll have to check. How do you know what the exchange rate will be? I know when I asked about buying Euros at the bank their exchange rate was a little higher (worse) than Travelex (I came home and looked it up).

I got a Capitol One card just to use in non-US currency ports. I hate transaction fees and Chase Visa's are high.

Agree capital one is great for no conversion fees--we use them all the time. On the ATM it depends on the bank for the fees. Exchange rate will still be bad as the dollar is not doing so well these days. My point was just you can save a few cents here and there with local ATMs. Bank of America, for example, charges $5 for using the foreign atm and then 2% of the total amount, which isn't bad given the fees at exchange booths. ING Direct charges no ATM fee, but charges 3%, so it works out to about the same. It's your call, you just need to do the math and find the best way for you. It may only be a few dollars here and there so not worth the hassle, but you just need to talk to your bank.

Hope this helps.

How many travelling magnets will be doing the rounds? How are you hoping it will work as I don't think there is going to be a list with room numbers on? I would love to sign them and move them along to another Dis door.

I kind of had in mind that i would put our Travelling Trevor magnet on Deck 1 to start then hopefully he'll make his way up through all the decks! But that could be wishful thinking :lmao: As long as he makes his way back to us by the last evening as the children will be very disappointed if he doesnt go home !!

And on another note it's such a lovely day today, so have decided to try and sort some packing out. It's going a lot slower than I hoped...:banana: and at this rate I will still be packing the night before. But I address this to the ladies... why is it that my DH doesn't understand my need to try everthing on that I'm packing just in case the clothes fairy has sneaked and altered them:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I just can't pack anyother way.......just have get clothes everywhere at the moment !!

You should try packing prep for 2 women !! :scared1:
But yes we both totally understand your need to try everything on before you decide if you want to pack it or not. I have been through all of my new and old clothes in the past 2 days and tried on all of it at least twice. Some things that looked so nice in the changing room in the shop now look absolutely dire so they arent going!!! This is the female way of packing - couldnt have it any other way! :cheer2:

Thanks for the great offer, but I'm taking the disney transfer. It was a decent deal because I needed the ride from the ship to MCO as early as possible in orlando on the way back. I'll keep an eye out for you all.

I'd love to! I like walking. Count me in pirate:

As long as i get their early enough, I'd love to! Where are you going to meet in the airport?

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 we are on the same flight and we are also taking the Disney transfer. London city Airport is very small with only a few outlets airside, hopefully you should be able to spot us, we will be the over excited adults and I'll be in a disney t shirt, but I will PM you my mobile number if you can't find us. Looking forward to it, that's start the magic early :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

not cooking kippers, are you? :rotfl:

Men never understand the importance of these things. Same thing with the number of shoes we need. I have a theory about that. Their Y chromosome is really just an X that's missing the DNA leg for fashion sense.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: No Pat I've learnt my lesson !!!

And DH just got his case out and declared I've packed, and when I went upstairs I said " but dear all your new cruise clothes are still in the wardrobe in then other room" lol oh dear he's just going to have to pack again.

A couple of months ago, I mentioned here on disboards about a getting a group to go walking each "non-port" day (to help ward off those pesky "evening dinner & FAB'S" lbs that seem to sneak up on us!), and there was a good response. Was just checking in to see if people would still be interested? Since the time is getting closer, just thought I'd ask to those interested if you wanted to meet about 9:00 am in front of Luminere's by the Mickey Statue? I walk fast and do my best walking when I'm talking! :goodvibes Would love to have company if anyone is interested!!! :thumbsup2

9:00 by Luminere's. O-kay! What is Luminere's and where is the Mickey statue? (Now don't be funny and tell me in front of Luminere's - I figured that out for myself) Jean

Yes, I've heard of upgrades being available to anyone at the port - the reason being it's a whole different system. Even after booking with points or with a TA, you are the one in control at the port - they don't have access to those reservation details, as I understand it.

The restricted GTYs are a new thing, and while it's true that you can't modify anything before that, once you get to the port it's a level playing field.

Port upgrades are not always available (none were on the ebta or the first Med cruise), but just in case there are some, you want to arrive EARLY and be one of the first in line!! There is no predictor for rates & availability, as far as I've been able to find, but it's always worth a try. :thumbsup2

Lumiere is in the main atrium on deck 3 - you will most likely enter there when you board the ship. Very central & ya can't miss it....especially since that cool Mickey statue is in front! :goodvibes

When you board the ship and they announce your name and everyone claps for you.....Luminere's is on your left. Same floor as customer service also. You won't have any trouble finding it. Looking forward to meeting you!!! :goodvibes

Where is everyone getting the picture for their traveling magnet? Do you type your own title and saying down at the bottom of the magnet? :confused3

If you buy foreign currency on the Disney ship...do you pay in cash or do they take it out of your on board acct.?

i made mine up by inserting images onto a word document. havent got a clue of any other way to do it personally!

oh and just to let everyone in palo group brunches know, i put all the group info on the second page of the new thread so its easy to find

Cash or check - they won't charge it to our account. And oddly, of you write a check, you must present a Dr. License! I presume any form of govt. ID would work, but that's what they had me go back to my room to get!! ;)

I am hoping to get one like this, if I can get some magnetic paper

RoamingGrumpy.jpg

I have mine done.. I'll try to post it ...

I am happy to post the info on the website or in the DIS Navigator if we get a consensus. I am also missing many room numbers which I am hopeful people will let me know as if there are any changes on board, it will be difficult for the FE groups, if there is a change to any of the DIS activities or the Madeira tour to contact them to let them know.

Hope more people will post on this subject.

Thanks for the info on the Travelex card, Noel. I think that may be the way to go. I'll call the MCO location and see what they can do for me. I know what you mean about the CC's. I've had numbers stolen twice, once on my AmEx, which I hadn't used in years, and once on my Chase. AmEx was a bit uncooperative until I started crying and they gave me to a supervisor who took care of everything. (Acting skills come in so handy at times like that.) Chase was terrific - they caught the charge before I knew anything about it, notified me, cancelled the charge and the account, and sent me a new card.

As for the room list, I'd be happy to share what I have with you, if you think it will be helpful. I guess if worse came to worst and someone needed to get in touch with someone else (w/o a room number), they could use the FB list to get the last name and leave a message at guest services.
