Come celebrate with me... we're about to start living the good life!!

I had a weak moment. I was in Target, and I was about to buy a pack of the good stuff. I am not loyal to a particular brand. Charmin, Angel Soft, any name brand is good with me. Even with a coupon and on sale, it was still more expensive than the Target brand Up & Up, so I took a chance and bought the Target stuff. I figured, how bad can it be?

It's bad.

It's crazy thin, and you need 3x as much just to do the job, and even then it's still not satisfactory. My family reacted in horror upon first use. Unfortunately, I bought an enormous pack, and we've been suffering ever since. It's not even good for blowing your nose in an emergency, or using with cold cream to remove mascara. And for killing a spider? Forget about it!

So, we're getting through our last roll, and we can hardly wait! A nice big pack of Charmin double-rolls is waiting in the wings. This was a hard-earned lesson. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

Yay for the emer family and their last roll of cheap TP!!!

(I love a good TP thread. I have a septic system and could talk TP all day.)

I used to buy Scott's, to my family's horror. I even found my mother sneaking in thicker/better stuff during her weekend stays. I switched to Wegman's brand in the blue package and we've been in heaven ever since, LOL. It's fine on the septic system and we all like it, much softer and thicker than Scotts.

You live and learn, no more cheap paper!

Congratulations!!! I too have ventured into the land of cheapo toilet paper and after coming out on the other side vowed to never to venture into that land again :rotfl2:. Nothing but the good stuff touches out tushes!!!

I've found Scott's to be the best value but now I'm curious about the stuff at Walgreens.

Thanks for the advice.

:)

When I was in college we referred to the TP provided in the dorms as John Wayne.

Because it was rough, it was tough, and it didn't take no ****

My husband is a TP loyalist & his brand is on a good sale today. I will stock up for the winter--no need to make any last minute trips out in the cold.

I know I am weird but I LIKE the basic Scotts TP, and it is all I buy. It lasts longer on the roll, too. 6 adults living here, the soft puffy rolls have to be replaced too often for me.

And my Mom used Charmin, very soft, but I switched as an adult. It seems to be cheaper, but I like it better anyway.

I might be weird but I actually like the Target Up & Up brand. I usually buy that unless Charmin is on sale.

I do too. I usually get Target Up & Up or Angel Soft, and I can't really tell a difference between the two. I can't use Charmin at all, it plugs our sewage pipes.

Scott's for us too. Lasts longer.

Probably what we referred to as 'Rambo' tp. Rough & tough & won't take **** off nobody.

I hear ya! I've bought some of the cheaper stuff in a pinch - (no good sales at the time we needed some), and there definitely is a difference.

That being said, I do usually buy a moderately priced brand like Angel Soft when on sale - no problems, no complaints.

A few weeks ago, I splurged and bought the charmin on sale at CVS (needed to use ECB; they had a deal, etc.) Absolutely love the Charmin.

But, just about everyday now, I hear my husband in there with the plunger. I told him -- no more charmin until he learns to use less!

My mom bought the cheap stuff a couple of years ago, and was so displeased with it she gave it to us (apparently we looked like we needed free TP). We used it and know why she gave it away.

Since that time, we experimented a bit to find what we really liked. DW doesn't really care what we get, but I will not stray from my Cottonelle. And since I do the grocery shopping, its all we buy. I stock up on sale, but if we are close to out, I spend the extra to get it.

I buy the Target brand regularly, depending on sales. I've never really had that OP's problem....we like the Target brand tp. :)

NOT a fan of Scott for our family, it feels more like tissue paper to me. Not soft at all.

I also don't care much for Kirkland brand, only because it will not come off the roll properly. It always gets stuck and tears half way. Drives me nuts!

I just bought Angel Soft at Target today. We just used up the last of our Charmin that I got a good deal on over the summer from Amazon.

I won't try the Up and Up brand tp. I have their kitchen drawstring trashbags, and they are a hassle to use. The bags are all stuck together and hard for me to get in the can. I'm back to using Glad or Hefty where I can just shake them out and put them in the garbage can.

I am very, very picky about my toilet paper! I usually always buy Charmin. I have bought the Sam's brand before....but really prefer Charmin. I have tried others and I always regret it. A couple of months ago I bought Northern....ugh! So rough!! I would rather spend a little more and have softness on my tush!!

I, too, will join in your celebration! Just a few weeks ago we finished our distressing venture into really cheap tp. I got caught up in being frugal, so when Paseo was dirt cheap and I had a great coupon, I got an enormous bundle of it. My husband also uses unusually large amounts of tp, like mrspaha's husband, and I thought this would teach him that if he uses a lot then I would be forced to buy the cheap stuff. Alas, it taught him nothing and I suffered for many weeks.

I have experimented some, and now always buy Northern, which happens to be top-rated not just by me but by Consumer Reports. :goodvibes Others are rough, non-absorbent, shred when wet leaving bits behind, cause clogs, etc. Somehow we got down to the last two rolls. DS went shopping and came home with something he thought was less expensive. I explained to him that girls can't use that cheap stuff, so he will have to use it up himself as I won't allow it in the master bathroom. I went shopping and came home with huge packages of Northern for much less per unit than he paid.
