Hi,
Are there any knives provided in the studios at Aualani that would be sufficient for cutting a pineapple or other fruit? I'm hoping to eat a lot of fresh fruit while there. Also, I htought I read a thread that mentioned a rice cooker was included in a studio. Is this true??

thanks

Pinapple cutting knife:Not really... but I would imagine you might be able to contact the concierge and get one sent up.

I have read about the rice cooker as well, but there was not one in the studio that we were in... I would think it would only be in the 1 bedrooms and up.

The only things available in a studio are:
  1. One cup coffee maker
  2. Mini refrig
  3. 4 Paper plates & bowls- pretty cool bamboo type
  4. Sink
  5. Microwave
  6. Drinking glasses
  7. Can opener
  8. 4 packaged plastic utensils

I think there is a toast but don't quote me on that.

A ONE CUP coffee maker? They don't even provide a full pot coffee maker?? It's not a Keurig type thing is it? What kind of filters does it take? How do we plan for that? There should be a toaster. That is standard in the WDW studios. I've never used a rice cooker (honestly I don't even know what that IS) so I'm not bothered by that. But a ONE CUP coffee maker is not cool.:worried:

We keep a cheap set of sharp knives in our Owners Locker in FL that I got at Target and I would guess that you could buy a large knife at the Ko'olina Target fairly cheaply if you wanted to cut pineapples. I love all the fresh fruit they have for breakfast in Hawaii. I was thinking maybe there would be a salad bar at the Safeway that might have some already cut up.

I'm sure it's the mini 4 cup that uses the packaged filter packs that they leave in all of the DVC rooms.

Well they're not going to give me a full weeks worth are they? I was planning to stop for groceries & to get some Kona coffee to have. So I would need filters, right?

You typically get 2. More when you get cleaned; which as you know with DVC is not every day. If you buy coffee, you will need filters. I usually bring my own filters and a small can of coffee. If you are buying there, just bring your own small filters from home. It won't add weight or take up space in your luggage. :-)

I don't use filters at home (Keurig) but keep a supply of regular size filters in our Owners Locker for use at WDW. Do they make special filters for these little bitty 1-4 cup size pots? Wouldn't a regular size filter be too big if that's what I brought?? Trying to figure out if I would need to shop for special size filters?!:confused3

The coffee pot in the Aulani studios is the same as in every other DVC studio. So whatever you buy to keep in your Owner's Locker is the same as you will need in your Aulani studio.

Thanks! I got all freaked out when Slowly posted above in their post that it was a 1 cup coffee maker!! I was like WHAT?!:scared1: One cup?! :rotfl:

I agree, I just double checked our photos of Aulani from September 2012 and zoomed in on the coffeemaker. It's a full sized Mr. Coffee, not sure if it was a 10 or 12 cup.

I am from Seattle and a coffee snob. But I don't like to do too much work to make coffee. For good coffee in any hotel room when travelling I wash out the coffee pot, and then use bottled water to brew a pot of hot water. And then I use the hot water with a pack of Starbucks Via instant coffee. :goodvibes

:confused3 sorry! As you can tell I am not a coffee drinker!:rotfl2: if you there in May we will give you ours.

Actually - you may get a weeks worth. We were provided far more supplies at Aulani than any other DVC. But housekeeping also stopped in most every day to check on us too.

But I went back and looked at the picture of the studio I toured at Aulani and it had a full sized coffee maker as every other DVC studio I've stayed in has. We have not gotten a 4 cup coffee maker, always a 12 cup and have stayed in studios at BWV, OKW, BCV, AKV, BLT and VGC.

We are here now in a studio and have a 4 cup coffee maker and the coffee is in a filter/large pod kind of thing. If you are going to buy your own coffee you will need to get filters for a 4 cup coffee maker. It is NOT a big coffee maker. FYI you will love it here!!!

Thanks for confirming what I remembered. We haven't stayed in a studio in awhile as we got spoiled after the first 1 bedroom, but I didn't recall a full size pot in the studios. :-)

Oh great. More conflicting information. I guess I will just have to call the resort to ask what size to expect. It doesn't make sense to me to put a smaller size coffee maker in a studio than they would put in a larger unit (I mean just because somebody stays in a smaller unit doesn't mean they would drink any less coffee than someone who can afford a larger unit!). I COULD bring the Maxwell House pre-filled coffee filters that would likely fit either size BUT I was hoping when we stop to buy groceries to find some good Kona coffee. LOVE the coffee in Hawaii.

It's not a matter of someone in a studio drinking less coffee, it's a space issue. There isn't a lot of counter space in the studios. :-)

Hi Erika,

We are arriving tomorrow and I noticed a lot of rain in the forecast. Is it affecting anything your doing or just pleasant tropical showers?

Thanks!

I can't imagine the countertop space at Aulani could be any less than the ridiculously small kitchenettes at Kidani - which still manage to have full size coffee makers...
