2014 ABD Itineraries. We have a Release date!

Glad they are releasing 2014 info soon! We are booking the Amalfi Italy trip for us (2 adults; 2 kids) and the 4 grandparents! One question: We will be getting the travel insurance, but with the grandparents all in their late 60s, is there any reason we shouldn't book right away? If something (heaven forbid) happens and one of them can't travel, when could we cancel that person's booking without penalty? I don't anticipate any health issues, but you never know.

Thanks!

That's what the travel insurance covers. Be sure to get the pre-existing clause in which ever insurance you pick. Usually the pre-existing clause is "allowed" within a certain few days to weeks when you book your trip. Now that you will select the insurance, knock on wood, you won't need it. What a great family trip. Chow!:wave2:

As carpenta says, that is what trip insurance is for. The ABD insurance *does* include a pre-existing condition waiver, if you purchase the insurance within 14 days of paying your deposit. If you get the waiver, you don't have to worry about when the grandparents got ill, etc. In most cases, it should be covered. The same is true of a lot of independently purchased trip insurance policies.

The deposit is non-refundable after 14 days. Here's the text from ABD's Terms and Conditions for 2013 for customer cancellation:

NAME CHANGES, GUEST CANCELLATIONS, REFUNDS: Reservations and package components are non-transferable. We will make a reasonable effort to accommodate changes to Guest names prior to departure provided that at least one member of the originally-booked party travels; however, we reserve the right to pass on to you any third party costs (such as from airlines or Suppliers) we incur in so doing. You may cancel by telephone or in writing. The time of cancellation will be the date upon which we receive notice from you. If you fail to execute and return the Adventure Travel Agreement (see below) to us no later than 14 calendar days after booking, it will be deemed a cancellation by you. If you make changes to the vacation commencement date or chosen vacation, it will be deemed a cancellation by you. If you cancel, amounts paid, minus cancellation fees and nonrefundable amounts, will be promptly refunded. Unless stated otherwise in your Guest Confirmation, the following cancellation policy shall apply: regardless of when you book, your US$300 deposit is refundable for 14 calendar days after original booking, notwithstanding the following cancellation fees, calculated in calendar days prior to vacation start date and irrespective of resale by us: 90 days or more: US$300 per person; 60-89 days: 25% of the land package price; 30-59 days: 50% of the land package price; 0-29 days: 100% of the land package price. No refunds will be made in the event of interruption or cancellation by you after the vacation start date. All appropriate refunds will be made in U.S. dollars directly to your credit card, via check or through your travel agent (if applicable). We will not be responsible for the receipt of refund monies by you from your travel agent, some of whom may withhold an agency cancellation fee. The cancellation terms above apply only to the land package price and exclude, among other things, cancellation charges from air carriers. Please see Vacation Protection Plan and Adventure Travel Agreement, below.

Thanks for the info Sayhello and Carpenta! Do most ABD travelers get the Disney offered travel insurance and pre-existing condition waiver, or do they go with another policy? Any experience?

We are excited about this multi-generational trip! Hope to make memories for all generations to last a lifetime!

I used to get my own trip insurance through outside companies until ABD started offering the pre-existing condition waiver. I've bought from ABD the last 2 years. I've found their policy to be extremely well priced, with decent coverage. I think, especially for the grandparents, that they'd get a much better deal with the ABD insurance.

Check out www.insuremytrip.com, which allows you to compare several policies and insurance companies. Some policies give you free coverage for kids, so that could save you quite a bit of money. I'm not sure if you could buy you & your kids outside insurance, but buy ABD's insurance policy for your grandparents. I'd get a quote and a copy of the policy from ABD, and then call www.insuremytrip.com, and figure out which one works for you.

How much is the Insurance Waiver? I am thinking I really need to purchase it too, since I am kinda doing this without my husband's knowledge and he has limited PTO lol.

The cost of the insurance *policy* varies depending on the trip. If you contact ABD or your TA, they can give you a no-obligation quote. For my Greece trip, it was like half the price of outside insurance.

The actual pre-existing condition waiver (which is an add-on to the policy) does not cost anything additional. All that is required is that you purchase the policy within 14 days of putting down your initial deposit.

However, do note that "I purchased my trip without my husband's knowledge, and he can't get the time off" is generally not a covered situation. :) Some policies have "Cancel for work reasons" add-ons, but the ABD policy does not. And again, that would generally infer that he was able to take the trip at the time you booked, but something changed at work, and he was not allowed to go.

In the interests of getting booked quickly, is it best to book direct with Disney then transfer to Dreams Unlimited? I'd like any discounts/gift credit DU offer, but I imagine their email quote process takes longer than it would to go direct...

ABD reservations work differently.

When booking an ABD, you submit all of the information (including a credit card for a deposit) and a reservation is made as soon as possible. I'd say immediately, but it would depend on when the reservation was submitted.

ABD prices do increase, but they are nowhere near as volatile as DCL pricing which can up in 15 minutes.

If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

lol well I am hoping if I book a week long trip and give him 6-9 months warning he can get off, hence why I am doing this so far in advance but still... just in case...

Hi Kevin! I saw that hint on FB this morning and searched until I found a photo of that clock in Prague! Did you do your Southeast Asia trip yet?

Cindy

When I saw the photo on the Facebook page all that went through my mind was "there's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall and the bells of the steeple, too".... Lol. Sound of Music on my mind! (School production this week! Lol)

We are looking to go after our kids get out of school...sometime in June. I know it will be hot, but we will do a few days before the ABD trip in Italy to let the kids get used to the time difference.

Based on the clues, the next adventure could be a combo of Austria /Czech Republic (given the countries are next to each other). That could be really fun.

I'm also considering a Med cruise that goes to Greece next summer as well.

I can't wait until they announce all the itineraries. I'm still hoping for Scandinavia or Japan!

ABD canceled that trip in 2009 and I have been hoping and waiting that they bring it back. I am so happy that they will!!! I hope they bring back the Spain ABD as well. With the numerous Med cruises they have done, I am hoping it will be just a matter of time.

We are booked for the Greek isles Med cruise but with Austria/Czech Republic's return plus Scotland, we would have to give up one... decisions... decisions...
