Vegas & Poker

Hi All,

Had a big birthday recently and DW and he siblings have given me a trip to Vegas :) I've always wanted to see the Grand Canyon and am an avid, but very amateur, poker player. So far I have narrowed down to the following hotels:

New York New York, €1280
The Carriage House, €990
Platinum Hotel, €990

I don't imagine I'll be spending much time in the Hotel, so as long as it's clean and the location is good (which all of the above are as far as I can tell), I'm good to go.

Although I'll be doing the Grand Canyon, I don't see myself doing a lot of sightseeing, will probably save that for a time DW and kids are with me.

Anybody know these hotels? Any other recommendations? Or even general recommendation? Locations for good poker rooms?

Many thanks

I'd look at the Flamingo, Bally's, and Paris Paris if you want to stay on strip and be central. These are the most central hotels that are cheaper (I have a $20 a night offer for Flamingos in my in-box right now, $39 for Bally's). Best bet is to join the Ceasars AND MGM loyalty programs (these two companies own the majority of the casinos on the strip) and see what offer shows up in your inbox 48 or so hours later. As for poker rooms, sorry, I'm a blackjack man.

Hoover Damn should be seen. Depending on which part of the Grand Canyon you want to see, be prepared for a long day of driving.

Happy birthday!

I stay at the Desert Rose, It is right behind Hooters and the Tropicana. It is clean and has 1 and 2 bedrooms, couch is a sleeper. Laundry rooms, Ice , Pool , Jacuzzi, and a kids little pool looks like the jacuzzi. Full kitchen. They also have BBQ's as well.

The Orleans, about a mile off the Strip on West Flamingo, has a good poker room.

Be careful of the ubiquitous Resort Fee. It seems every property now charges one, ranging from a few dollars per night to $30ish. Not included in any package price.

Thanks, I'll check into it.

And yes, I had noticed the resort fee, seems a little underhand to me. I'd say the European Consumer Rights groups would have a field day with them :) Just like the did with the Airlines

Well, I personally like The Orleans as a property too. It's not extremely convenient if you don't have a car, but they do have a free shuttle to from the Strip all day and into the evening. And there's always Über. The resort fee was under $10/night last time I checked.

I had a look, it's a bit too far to be honest, but appreciate the post :)

Okay. Also look at LINQ, Harrah's, Monte Carlo, and Tropicana. And off the Strip, but closer than the Orleans, is Rio. Maybe a half-mile from the Strip, with a free shuttle to/from Harrah 's (and maybe Bally's?)

So you want to be on the Strip? My suggestion (and personal choice) is Flamingo.
It's clean and the location is center strip. I second the Orleans' poker room, especially
for a "very amateur" poker player.
