ABC's of Trip Planning (Oct 10-20), Vol. 2- Z is for: Zippidee Doo Dah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is the whole reason I am completely addicted to Disney! She was my "salvation" When I was first diagnosed with cancer, I was in the hospital for 6 weeks. Stage 4. Of coarse the whole Make a Wish foundation was being looked at. I couldn't ever get approval by the doctors to go though because the tumor was so massive and my health was so poor. Then my aunt came along. She was a RN and asked the doctors if she was the one to take me, if I could go and they said yes. So she took me to Disney for 14 days. My first trip ever and it was for 14 days. I couldn't fly, had to drive because of the air pressure changes. my lungs were to weak. I sit here giddy as a school girl just remembering those feelings when I walked into a park for the first time and as I was passing under a walkway, Goofy comes running up and hugs me!

That is such a wonderful story! Thank you SO much for sharing!

I'm not sure anyone EVER forgets their first view of the MK and Main Street. Ever. And the special things that the CMs do to make it more magical. Just a great feeling all around!

LOL now that I have completely taken a walk down memory lane and high jacked Steppe's thread, I shall leave off!

Nope, don't ever feel like you're hijacking this thread; it's for everyone to share. :) We all love these kind of stories, and there's room for everyone to get the feely-goods. :)

Picky eaters is one reason we did so many buffets when the kids were younger. It gave them a chance to try lots of new foods, without worrying that we were wasting an entire entree if they didn't like it. Another thing we've done is where if a kid is curious about something, but isn't sure, I'll order the new food, and give them a taste. Depending on how it goes, we will then share our meals accordingly. This of course assumes it is something I'm willing to eat, but I don't think we've come across a situation where I would've hated having to eat the entire thing.

Both good strategies to get kids interested in at least trying new things. Lead by example, I always say!

As it happens, I grew up with a family who liked to eat more "ethnic" foods, and hardly ever went out to a typical "family style" restaurant. We thought that was boring! Instead, we ate Chinese, Japanese, Greek, and Italian most of the time. We also went to Walker Brothers Pancake House for dinner and not for brunch, because there weren't any lines at dinner time. Plus, as my dad would say, it was pretty expensive breakfast, but a cheap dinner!

NOW you're talking! Greek, Italian, Korean, Russian, all of that is so GOOD!!!

I do breakfast for dinner once in a while to. I like to make omelets and waffles with toppings, like creamed tuna or creamed eggs. Mmmm!

In my family I'm the most adventurous one there is.....but it's a very low bar. My husband won't eat much of anything. He's a basic farm boy from the midwest and will only eat burgers, steak, meatloaf...., chicken, catfish, and some pasta stuff and pepperoni pizza. I've broadened my horizons a little bit further than that, but had never even tried Chinese food until I was in my 20s.

You didn't even try Chinese until 20??! WOW! I thought even mass produced Chinese was pretty ubiquitous. You like it now, right??

Likewise I had a platter at the Morocco counter service once, and didn't care much for it.

Was that a texture thing too? Or was it the spices/herbs that were used?

I like the idea of the Food and Wine festival so I can try different things

If Ryne doesn't want to tag along, you are certainly welcome to hang with us!! We'd love to share nibbles with you and let you taste along with us. Seriously, we can make a plan on the 14th.

And, Liesa, if you want to add to your list, there are photos of all of the food booth menu boards with the prices on the DIS somewhere - I have it saved on my FB.

I have seen a bunch, but not all.

Thanks!

!

You have to remember, I grew up (and still live) in the middle of "nowhere" population 500. The nearest town (with actual stores/restaurants) was 20 miles away and they were mostly fast food, pizza, and maybe a steakhouse. Tacos were about as "ethnic" as it got. I was working at my first real job the office ordered in Chinese. They got me moo goo gai pan and having never eaten button mushrooms before, I thought it looked horrible. Granted I grew up walking in the woods hunting for morel mushrooms, and love them, but these mushrooms didn't look like "mine". So that was a disaster. Later one of the mechanics took me out for supper and ordered a sampler platter and 2 different entrees. I gradually learned to like it. But only my oldest will eat it too and he lives about 4 hours away.

As for the Moroccan food. I don't remember it being that spicy. It seems like one of the sides had no flavor at all and the other was a texture thing. But I can't even say what the texture is I don't like. I like grits and malt o meal but it seems like I didn't like the grittiness of whatever it was. (Couscous maybe?).

My poor kids didn't stand a chance. My husband likes nothing so therefore my kids don't. He was always real good about telling them they wouldn't like this or that. :sad2: But maybe that's why my oldest does like "odd" food....he and my husband disagree on everything so he probably eats more adventurously out of spite. :rolleyes1

Well, that absolutely makes it hard! When there is no variety to be had, how can you try it?!

My parents moved to Western Virginia a while back (then moved to bowling green) and couldn't find hardly any of the fresh ingredients they were used to cooking with. That was really hard! But if you just grew up that way I can totally understand. But when a healthy and great variety are everywhere around you and you don't at least try... that's where I have a harder time.

Never been to the F&W festival, so I'm no help whatsoever! I can say that I absolutely love the cheddar soup from Le Cellier. Wish they hadn't turned that place into a signature restaurant.

I, too, am a little sad I never got there before it went sig. I"ve been wanting to try that soup for a decade, and now's my chance! But I'd also have loved that filet. Maybe someday...

Please pray for my dad today, if you would. He had a fainting spell early this morning while he was getting ready to head to Nashville for his men's Bible Study. He was taken to the hospital and they have admitted him and are doing a full workup. They've ruled out MI, stroke, and some other things, and are now doing an US to rule out abdominal aneurysm. Not much else is known until labs, CT, and US results come back.

Thanks, All.

Keeping you dad in my thoughts! How scary! I hope he will get the all clear and they find some really simple and non-threatening reason for this! Sending you and your family a big hug!

Thanks, Magdelene. They are for sure keeping him overnight. Right now, they are waiting on abdominal US results to r/o aneurysm- which would be a worse case scenario.

It must be really bad to be so far away. At least you are not in Central Asia anymore. But really, in these kind of situation even a 6 hour car drive feels too far already.

I hope that everything turns out OK, and it wasn't anything serious. Good luck with the test results and I'm sorry you're so far away. That is the worst part of it.

Planned on quickly stopping in to say that I got our Magic Bands today :-) and that means you should get yours soon!!

But I'm so sorry to hear your dad is ill. I hope the test come back with nothing serious and he goes home soon feeling better.

Popping in to let you know your Dad (and you and your family!) are in my thoughts.
Hope results come in speedily, conclusively and bring good news.

Praying for your father. I hope they can find out what happened. Waiting for results is so tough. I pray you get your answers soon.

Splitting 4 cords of wood today, but wanted to pop in here very quickly to say that Dad was released today. After a full work up, we got very good news that it was likely a vagovagal syncope episode- the best outcome we could have hoped for. :D We're SO thankful that he didn't hit his head on the way down! This really could have been a trip changer, because as much as I love Disney, I love my family more. Family first. Always.

Thanks for your good thoughts and wishes all! It means a lot to me....

Now... back to splitting that oak. An entire 80 foot tree.
