Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

At no time during out stops in DS did they ever inquire about where we were staying. Not sure how they could have ever policed that either. When I saw the announcement I thought it was rather strange it was ever worded to be for on site guests only.
I noticed that all the signs said the garages and DS itself was closed. I do not think they were policing guests only, just wasn't providing the general public with the information that it was open. So the only way they would know would be from online boards like this.

Today's the day! Storm has passed! My hubby and I cut yesterday off our trip of course! We are driving up today from Gulf Coast of Florida' :earsgirl::earsgirl:

What's everyone's plans today? Heading home ? Parks?

We are hitting Food And Wine'!

Prayers for folks in SC this morning. Reports that I-95 is impassable in places, and many roads in Charleston are completely under water.
Here in eastern NC, we're bracing for bad flooding. Latest Tropical Storm Warning for us says the flooding risk is "Extreme" and potentially "catastrophic". Areas of my county are already flooded, shelters have opened, and evacuations have been in place for days. All this and Matthew isn't even technically coming here, but his rain and storm surge are so far-reaching that we're in for a mess. I'm not in a flood-prone spot here at my home, but a lot of people I know will be greatly affected by this.

I hope everyone down at Disney has a great day though! I know people are itching to get to the parks! I'll be reading and keeping up here on the Dis as a way to keep my mind off the storm.

Do people want to list which characters were at which resorts? I'm curious. We we're at AoA and saw Jessie,Chip and Rafiki.

Someone asked about characters, here at BWI we saw Chip and Dale, twice, several hours apart. And we saw Goofy and Pluto. We spent several hours in the bar and could have missed others easily

For historical purposes, I think compiling this information and all accompanying photos would be a great idea. Who wants to do it? :)

No. Thank you so much for asking :goodvibes

If you are watching the news ............. I am St. Augustine Beach and the videos coming in from St. Augustine are devastating and heartbreaking. The Old City is one of my favorite places, right up there with Disney. It's just a really special place. The last few years it has had all the empty stores and restaurants revitalized, so much new construction and renovation of the old places. It truly has it's own soul. Even getting a new Embassy Suites on the beach - which will then let the secret out. As a Hilton Honors person we were always hunting for hotels on beaches to use points before we had our own spot.

We found one picture up A1A from us about a couple of blocks and wind damage but no standing water ... but not sure if it was before or after eye came by. The videos just have put all kinds of bad thoughts in the head. Uncharted territory for St. Augustine, I think nothing huge since the 60's. A short time ago the mayor of St. Augustine Beach (we are technically a mile south) said "catastrophic surge damage" ....... am sure part is referring to the beach. The beaches there are so pretty especially in Anastasia State Park.

They will not let anyone (videos were sneakers during the storm) on the island until they check all out, probably sometime tomorrow. We are a townhouse in a condo community so we are depending on management to make assessments then give us the news. Hoping tomorrow or Sunday. On the plus side we are on a strange ridge of land that actually is not required to have flood insurance - how you can be 250 yards from the beach and not have it - but we have it anyway. When I checked NOAA Surge Predictors, we show as safe. Of course not from wind and driving rain, and there is a cool pond behind us that I think is built to not overflow but when there is that much water you don't know.

I just replanted my garden, even using the ferns at AoA by the Nemo buildings to make it look Under the Sea. They needed to be watered, but not this much ............ FINGERS CROSSED!

My garden and our piece of beach aka heaven.

It's absolutely gorgeous! Let's hope that ridge saved you from too much damage. My family is very fond of the St. Augustine area. The thought of lost and damaged history makes me sick.

Today would've been a HS/F&W day. Now, it's a transit day to get checked in late afternoon. Rather than a mad dash to a park, it'll be a relaxed pool night (and bar :drinking1) for us lol. Then early bed time for HS EMH am tomorrow. :darth::chewy:

We have plans to do the Greek Festival stuff at St. Augustine; hopefully they can get that going after the flooding. The local news reporter said that it may be days before the water subsides. The water was up to her knees on San Marco Ave., near Bridge of Lions.

About to take off in philly in route to mco! Next stop disney for some food and wine! Feeling blessed that my flight is able to take off. Thank you everyone for keeping me updated during the hurricane. Praying for those still in Matthews path ❤️

Well done then!!!

I know that's the rush of being a CP. It can be a very exciting job with lots of trials and tribulations. I hope you and your fellow CPers weren't too shaken by the storm. I spent a bit of my Wed prepping one of the college kids at Universal on what to expect. Poor girl had never been in a hurricane and she was away from her family for the first time. Fortunately orlando fared well in the storm. I gotta look her up when I visit this week and see how she made out.

I'm actually not a CP - this was a 'volunteer' shift to help out (they also put a call out for today - if you run into someone who looks like a leader but doesn't have answers right away, be patient as they are probably giving up their weekend to help with crowds)

Thankfully most of them seemed okay. Housing didn't get hit hard, and they were appreciative to be out and about (as was I)

I have been driving over the last 24 hours or so - when our Baltimore flight got canceled yesterday I booked a one way car and drove around Matthew to Atlanta. We got on the road again at 1am and just arrived to a deserted Magical express! Hopped right on the bus should be in the park by noon. No sign of hurricane other than the airport signs warning flight delays. Route 75 in was clear early this morning but we saw packed hotels and rest stops with cars with trunks open preparing to get on the road. Tolls are still suspended as of this morning.

I am glad you shared about the embassy. We are hhonors people too and also always looking for new beachfront places to use our points. We love sandestin and it is convenient from Nashville and are going to Marco Island for the 2nd time for Thanksgiving this year. What other places have you tried and loved or hated? We are thinking of trying Puerto Rico and maybe a Key West property soon. Been to any of those?

We also arrive today. Fingers crossed there is no damage to my house. Otherwise just headed to DS for some EOS, maybe Publix if the shelves have been restocked! Tomorrow is IOA and we are soooooo ready for it!!!! What a stressful last few days. I know others have had their lives ruined and died, I'm not saying we had it really bad. Just lots of ups and downs.
