Watched the video and actually liked the show
That will probably be the prevailing view. I don't see people walking away hating it. It's going to be between just liking it or loving it. But for those looking for the wow factor, except for the finale, it may not reach that level.
I think that what most people are feeling right now is a sense of over hype, created by Disney
I also think that the high expectation level is felt mainly by those that are really into WDW. The WDW visitor who has no clue what has transpired, and that's the majority of visitors, will form an opinion based on what they see for the first time.
The show was well received by last night's crowd, and it was a good representation of a typical WDW crowd. Only about 250 were bloggers, the rest of the 700 were family and friends, and the bloggers were not Disney bloggers. Their blogs are about many, many non Disney topics.
I for one am excited to see it in person.
Jaded and all, I was looking forward to seeing it and I encourage others to see it. I wouldn't skip it based on posts made by super critical social media types. Love it or just like it, it will be worth the effort and should be seen.

What is the seating capacity? And will it be shown more than once per night or will that only be during peak attendance times? Trying to gauge if we need to FP or get in stand by without waiting 2 hours on line. Guessing if there are two shows per night the later show will be easier to get into like F!

Seating is not as big as Fantasmic. I forget numbers but something around 7,000 I think. There is supposed to be at least two showings per night. Busy seasons will likely see three.

Hi guys! Thanks for sharing our livestream from the event. I was lucky enough to attend as a guest. My kids and I LOVED the show! It was really amazing in person!
Thanks for sharing live, Jones Family Travels! :) It looked amazing from the vid, so jealous you got to be there in person! How do you think it compares to Fantasmic/IllumiNations? Just as good? Anyway, thanks for all your vids on the channel, and have a good time on the cruise!

Where in AK is the RoL? Is there better spots for viewing?
RoL is presented on Discovery River, with dedicated seating installed around half the lagoon. Very few have actually seen the show so far, so can't directly comment on viewing based on experience, but as far as it looks from the videos, there is no majorly better viewing spots.

Hi guys! Thanks for sharing our livestream from the event. I was actually a guest, not an attendee to the conference. So, I am not biased and Disney did not pay me for my review. LOL! We are regulars to Disney World. We are at the parks several times a week. So a huge Disney fan! I actually liked the show a lot! I saw the Jungle Book show two times and really did not like that show. Many people have compared it to the World of Color at California Adventure. I have seen that show many times, too. I thought the Rivers of Light was amazing and better than the World of Color! My entire family (including the kids) loved it! We will certainly be back again, once it opens! :)
Thanks for jumping in! We LOVED World of Color so this definitely makes ROL sound way more exciting!
FWIW there are several versions of WOC and IMO the original is the best. Not sure which version of WOC Jones Family areis thinking about in the comparison between RoL and WOC. To me (the original) WOC is the best of all Disney shows I have seen (the original is now back playing at DCA since last month I believe :goodvibes). My next trip starts on March 4 so of course I am hoping Disney gets RoL going regularly by then.

:wizard:

As I am not a fan of WOC at DCA, I was hoping this would be better. The video is nice, it looks really pretty, but fairly slow paced. Just didn't wow me.

We will see it when we got out, and make a better judgment at that time.

Haven't watched it yet, will sometime before going probably. We had been delaying going to AK until this opened then kind of gave up on that idea. However if it'll open soon then we could delay it a bit further. Will it still be in the "preview" stage for a lot longer? The CM preview was a few months ago and nothing again until now, and it's still yet another preview. Could it potentially be in previews for a year or more before opening?

And here we are a year later and still no official opening date. I would suggest no one change any plans until is official.

Anyone know when it will open for nightly shows?
I have heard within the next two weeks.
I have also heard within the next couple of weeks. Cast Members are currently scheduled to be working in the theater this coming weekend, so a debut/softs are possible this weekend. We'll have to wait and see, but there is no doubt that it will be in the very near future! :)

I suppose there may not yet be any answer to this question, but do we have any idea when ROL will occur -- at closing, near closing, etc -- other than "sometime after it gets dark"?

Sorry if this was covered and i missed it.

Cheers!

Considering there will be more than one show per night I would guess one after dark and one near closing. Sometimes throughout the year there will likely be three showings per night.

I am really looking forward to seeing this, as I love shows with light effects at night! Most of all, there is SEATING!!!!! This aspect thrills me, as my ability to enjoy fireworks and parades is directly proportionate to my discomfort at standing through a performance. While I can still walk a decent distance, it has been years and years since I could comfortably stand in one place for more than a few minutes. I curse Disney's determination to make people stand as much as possible unless they can find a way to make you pay for a seat somewhere. And that somewhere is usually not ideal for viewing, at that. I would have happily sprung for the Dessert Fireworks cruise except for the constant reminders that there is very limited seating which actually allows you to see the fireworks.

As an older guest, my days of sitting on pavement have long past, and perching on the edge of a concrete wall is only marginally better. ROL, Here I come... unless I have to stand as long as you do to get seated at Fantasmic!
