You down with O.O.P? Yeah you know me! March 11-15, 2017 Updated 4/7 Final Day-COMPLETED

Love Kim Crawford SB :lovestruc it's become one of my new go-to wines after I learned I liked Sauvignon blanc at Victoria & Albert's

I heard captain's grill is getting a refurb. I thought it was pretty decent when we are there a few years ago and I have seen a few recent really positive reviews so hopefully it comes back even better!

Nothing beats a mai tai for a vacation drink!

WHOOP! :flower1:

We've only had breakfasts at Captain's Grill and they were all good. One of these days, we need to try lunch or dinner there.

Funny enough, my LEAST favorite meal was our Captain's Grille breakfast. I got the ricotta pancakes and I found the texture to be off-putting. But I am definitely open to trying the breakfast buffet. It's on my list for my next trip!

Following along! I just binge read your old dining/trip report and I love your writing and your sense of humor! :rotfl:

Oh wow! Thank you!! That trip was so much fun! I hope you enjoy this one too...although there are decidedly less margaritas involved :(

I have, however, mastered the multiquote... you just either highlight the text you want to quote and hit the "+quote" in the blue text bubble or you can just quote the whole post from the bottom corner. Quote everybody! And then when you hit insert quote just leave 'em all there and type back in between. This concludes your IT assistance from Melinda

LOOK AT ME USING MULTI QUOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thanks: As you can see, I've also found all the smileys and emojis. I like how this smiley is swingin' on a pole.

Day 2 - EPCOT

I forgot to mention previously that my sister and her family met us in Disney after they stayed in Clearwater Beach for the first half of the week. Her kids are about the same age as mine, and we thought it would be so great to see them all together on rides and stuff. For the most part, we were able to coordinate FPs and such. But if you've ever tried to stick with a group, or another family, you will know how difficult and annoying that can be. So we often split up in the afternoons when it got busy but got to spend a lot of quality time together.

I'm not posting pics of them because my sister is internet adverse. She literally JUST got a FB account 2-3 years ago. Her job is pretty important and she doesn't want people all up in her business. So I get it. Anyway...just imagine them there, ok?

My sister brought us some necessities from Publix on her way from the beach. Cereal, granola bars, coffee, bottled water and a box of chardonnay. Just the bare essentials really. The kids ate breakfast in the room every morning since we were up so early every day. I think this helps so you're not monkeying around with finding something to eat in the parks.

Our first stop was to do the Stand-by line with a Rider Swap ticket for Soarin'. Scott only waited about 20 minutes which is the shortest I think I've ever waited for that ride. The new version was really spectacular, although I did NOT like the view in the mountains. I'm not that keen on heights. I was sandwiched between two other single riders, and I think I might have grabbed one of their hands inadvertently. lol.

Nemo was next

Next was M&G for Mickey et. all, and Baymax. I LOVE Big Hero 6...and I LOVE Baymax. I think I was more excited than the kids. IMG_9246.JPG

We were coming up on our 1:30p Frozen Fast Pass, and because we've been up SINCE 6AM we were also feeling hungry. Lunch and margaritas were in order. Normally La Cantina de San Angel is not my most favorite place to eat. I lived in S. Texas for about 5 years and I just don't love Mexican food. I was overruled by my sister and her husband so off we went. I ordered nachos for me and Scott to split, one kid chicken nugget meal for Alice and chicken tacos for Rowan and Scott to split. I was hoping they would sell quesadillas there for the kids...which seems reasonable? Anyway, they don't. My kids barely ate anything.

IMG_9256.JPG

My nachos were awesome though. Lots of cheese and sour cream. The jalapenos were just spicy enough. Really quite delightful. I would get these again. Scott enjoyed his chicken tacos as well, but they were pretty basic. Literally chicken, some shreds of lettuce on corn tortillas. Total for lunch was 32.90.

The kids were driving us crazy...which could only mean one thing. Margarita O'clock. On our way down to La Cava, we saw a line forming for this guy....

EPCOT_WSMEX_20170312_399139484099.jpeg

I may or may not be obsessed with the cucumber margarita from La Cava. I must be....because I waited at least 20 minutes in line for one to go. I said hi to my main man Pepe who I like to think remembers me from last year, even though he sees a million people a day :)

IMG_9316.JPG

Ok. Let me tell you a little something about this drink. FORGET THE AVOCADO MARGARITA. This is where it's at. This drink is light and refreshing with the cucumbers and mint. There's also a slight heat to the rim and all together it's just drink perfection. You can only order 2 at a time, and Scott and my Brother in Law had the kids, so we had to order for them. Unfortunately, when I made my way back later in the week, the line was literally four times as long. Sigh....I just can't do that with kids in tow.

Day 2 Pt 2 coming up later.

Day 2 Part 2 - EPCOT Kringla/Topiaries/Hurricane Hanna's

I'm going to preface by saying that I LOVED Maelstrom. And not in an ironic way. I legit loved that ride. I have a lot of memories of my sisters and I dying laughing over that weird mural and the Teen Wolf fisherman. My expectations for Frozen were very low. After all, I've been disappointed in most of the new rides. I feel like they're either too short (Mine Train), or just phoned in (Nemo---I mean all the cool stuff they could've done with that ride!). I LOVED IT. The line is gorgeous, the ride is fun and felt long enough. LOVED the Elsa ice palace scene...we all were singing in the boat! Loved loved loved it.

After Frozen, we saw there was only a 20 minute wait to meet Anna and Elsa. It was more like 12 minutes. I'm not sure why in MK the wait was like, 4 hours but here in Epcot it's only 20 minutes?? They were adorable. Rowan I'm fairly certain is in love with Elsa.

EPCOT_FROZENCHARB1_20170312_7974544256.jpeg

Because my kids didn't eat anything at lunch they were, of course, hungry. We were enjoying our stay in Arendelle...er Norway and I had a hankering for School Bread. My kids chose the frozen snowball dessert. This was a giant blue mess. Turned their mouths and hands blue, and they didn't love it quite frankly. It's a brownie bottom with a mound of cream and a antifreeze looking blue drizzle. LOL. It's weird.
IMG_9325 (2).JPG

I thoroughly enjoyed my school bread though. People either love or hate it. I think it depends on the freshness of the bread. Mine was soft and fresh and the cream was light and delicious. If it was dry or stale this would not be worth the calories.

IMG_9326.JPG

We did a quick trip through the countries and saw that Jasmine was in Morocco. I know, I know...less princesses, more drinkies. But honestly, the character M&G lines were less obnoxious than the food and drink lines. Scott had also had it with the lines and the hoards of people. He took Rowan back to the room to get ready for a swim while I stayed with Alice to meet Jasmine.
EPCOT_WSMOR_20170312_7974633277.jpeg

Once we got back to to the hotel, we got in our swimsuits and met Scott and Rowan over at Stormalong Bay. I was feeling pretty bummed about my lack of quality time in World Showcase. Like, seriously seriously bummed. You know how you walk when you're trying to get through a crowd of people?? That's how we were the WHOLE WAY THROUGH WS. Just big, large groups of people everywhere. Our last trip was not during a busy season, and we did NOT go with kids. But I really just wasn't up for dealing with it. And it broke my heart a bit :(

To drown my sorrows, I went to Hurricane Hannas and got myself a cherry lemonade...which was DELISH! I typically don't order lemonades with or without booze, but this was light and just the right amount of sweet. I didn't have a camera, but I lifted this from eatingwdw.com. Looked just the same.

maji-pool-bar-black-cherry-lemonade.jpg

After some pool time, we went back to the room to get freshened up for our dinner at Rose and Crown :) I'll update tomorrow with that review. But I'll leave you with some posts of the topiaries from F&G. They were truly amazing. I didn't lighten or touch up the photos because that's what they looked like when we were there. Kinda dark and cloudy. I think its more authentic (and I suck at photoshop).

IMG_9226.JPG IMG_9228.JPG IMG_9416.JPG IMG_9231.JPG

I've heard that crowd level was insane last few weeks because of spring breaks. We are heading down in about two weeks for our spring break also. We went last year same time and it was crowded but ended up doing most things we planned on doing with early morning EMH and well planned fast passes. However, we are only a family of two, me and DS (13y/o) so we could move pretty fast. The weather was beautiful with mild temperature without much humidity. We took afternoon breaks because the parks get so crowded.

My DS loves those nachos from La Cantina and it's pretty big in portion that we could share. We usually share that and grab desert from other countries.

Day 2 part 3

After a swim we got the kids back up to the room and changed for our group dinner at Rose and Crown. My dad is from England originally and my mom met him backpacking through Europe (so cute!) so we're kinda obsessed with all things British. When we were growing up and went to Disney, my parents NEVER took us to a sit-down restaurant. But I do remember two or three times we were lucky enough to eat at Rose and Crown and I always remember how special that was. It holds a special place for me, and I always try and have dinner there on every trip.

We were all walking through the International Gateway and had just passed the little gift shop on the right when I look over, and Alice in Wonderland is standing right next to me. So I start shouting to my husband and sister "Alice! Alice!" and they're like "We have her up here with us!" taking about MY Alice. And I was like "NO! I AM WALKING WITH ALICE IN WONDERLAND RIGHT NOW!". It was really funny! I explained that I have an Alice and she took all the kids by the hand and led them through the gardens and was like skipping with them. It was uber cute.

I mean...could you just die???

We got checked in to R&C and had a slight wait. We went to the bar and got a couple drinks. My sister and I both got the English Rose in the souvenir glass.

IMG_9434.JPG

Ain't she a beaute? Beefeater gin, apricot brandy, sweet vermouth, pineapple juice, orange juice and cranberry juice served in a souvenir cup $11.75. This is actually a different mug than what I got last time and you guys....I LEFT IT THERE!!!!! Ugh. So annoyed about that. But it was a delicious drink. Don't be scared off by the ingredients. It really just tastes like a fruit juice punch. I did catch a buzz from it, so I don't think it's a particularly weak drink...but it doesn't taste like alcohol.

Our buzzer went off, and were led to THE BEST TABLE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had a nice long table facing World Showcase Lagoon. Our reservation was at 6:45 and Illuminations started at 8 I think. So we could actually keep the table for the fireworks. I was super pumped.

Our waiter was Mike and he was as adorable as all the R&C servers. Polite, fun and very efficient. We explained that we were NOT in a hurry and were hoping to catch the fireworks from our table. We never felt rushed and had great service. The pace of the meal was perfect.

For appetizers I ordered the potato leek soup as it was a bit chilly as the sun was setting. This warmed me right up. The consistency of this soup is very smooth, which I don't love for my potato soups. I like it to have a bit of texture. It was very tasty nonetheless. Scott ordered the scotch egg which was delicious as always. A scotch egg is a hard boiled egg, wrapped in ground sausage, rolled in breadcrumbs and fried. What's not to like really. The price is a bit steep for ONE egg but they do garnish it with a lovely mustard sauce.
701.JPG

My sister ordered the UK Cheese Platter with Stilton, McCall's Irish cheddar and Cotswold Cheese. I didn't get a picture, but here is one from allears.net

menu_item_image_1681.jpg

It was delicious. I especially liked the cheddar with the caramelized onions. I wrote in my notes that I wish there was more accoutrements with the cheese board. Maybe a few extra crackers, some honeycomb?

Scott ordered the Corned Beef and Cabbage entree, which I don't recall seeing before. Maybe it was a special item for St. Patrick's Day? Anyway, it was DELICIOUS. Two very large portions of corned beef with that same yummy mustard sauce over a carrot and cabbage hash. He was nice enough to share before he completely devoured it.

IMG_9436.JPG

The kids each ordered the children's fish and chips and I ordered the grown up version:
IMG_9437.JPG

So, this was also absolutely amazing. Hot and perfectly crispy and fresh tasting all at the same time. I threw some malt vinegar on that bad boy and went to town.

For dessert, the kids got the english trifle which they did not enjoy and I don't blame them. It was a frozen cake/pudding thing with some strawberry sauce. The kids desserts are really garbage property wide. I would rather NOT have dessert for my kids included than have them take one bite and it go to waste. Don't bother, ya know? I ordered a coffee and a banoffee tart and my sister ordered a cup of tea.

713.JPG

My coffee came out hot but my sister's tea water was luke warm at best. So she flagged Mike down who was very apologetic and ran and got her another pot of hot water. He came back and it was still tepid water. Now...as an english themed restaurant, you kinda need to have the whole tea thing down. We flagged him back over and off he went in search of hot water. He came back panting from running and said he had to go next door to Yorkshire for their hot water. Bless. It was finally a hot cup of tea! Which was perfect timing for Illuminations.

It was a fantastic dinner with amazing company! The disappointment from running through World Showcase earlier that day was a distant memory and I was just feeling really happy and thankful to be there. Disney is awesome like that sometimes.Dinner with tip was $132.21 plus the $25 from the bar.

Day 3 is Magic Kingdom and HOMECOMING!!!!!!!!! Whoop whoop! Stay tuned :)

I am really going to have to try Captain's Grille one of these days...your dinner looked fantastic! I am definitely going to get one of those cucumber margaritas in September, though. Sounds awesome!

Your family is adorable, by the way :)

Loving your report! I've never had an avocado margerita, and after reading how everyone raves over them, I was determined to try one on my next trip. Now I'm thinking I'd rather have the cucumber! Maybe I'll try both! Your kids are so cute!

R&C is a must do for us as well. And that view.....fabulous! Love the report so far :)

A little late to the party, but loving this so far! Our arrival night dinner is Rose and Crown for our upcoming trip. Loved your review and look forward to more!

I'll be make by a reservation at Rose in Crown for October just so my baby boy can have a scotch egg! He'll be in heaven.

Joining in!

Your story about how Rose and Crown is your special restaurant makes me smile! Its one of the reasons I have a soft spot for some places that aren't always well loved!

Glad your meal went well and you were able to see illuminations! Too bad you left your glass there!

Thank you! I am planning on trying the R&C pub dining next trip just so I can order that Scotch Egg. It looks fantastic. Love reading your reports - especially about FEA ride. I am a Maelstrom lover as well, and haven't done FEA yet, but now I have hopes of liking it.
