I recently began planning our first family trip to Disney. My DS will 7 and DD will be 4.5 at the time of trip. My DH thinks they are too young and it will be a waste because they wont remember any of it. And in his words, "he's only giving the guy with big ears money once." He would prefer to put it off until they are 10 or older. I think its the perfect time and if we wait too long it wont be as magical. They may not remember but I will!

Any feedback would be most appreciated.

They are great ages. It will be magical aND they will love it. You will want to go back though, I can pretty much promise, lol. We went on a once in a lifetime trip last year aND are going again this year, lol.

They will enjoy it, and you will tell them about it and they will see pictures. Our boys were 8, 6 and 4 and they all loved. I'd say my 4 year old was most caught up in the magic and characters though..I'm so glad I took them when I did!!

Well, for one... once he goes, he will probably change his tune about "giving the guy with big ears money once." My kids best trip was at 5 and 7 years old (they are 8 and 10 now), I think it's a great age to go (start going.... ;) )

We are going for the first time with the exact same ages. But I assume we will go at least once more. If you really think it will be a one time thing I would wait until 7 and 10!
I told him to saw us going now and then again when they are teenagers. This is assuming we don't catch Disney Fever!

If it's a one time thing I think I might wait for your youngest to be a little older.

We took my girls at age 6, almost 7 and to be honest some of the magic was already gone. They loved it but I kept hearing they're not real they're just dressed up!

For real magic I'd say 5 - 5 1/2. But regardless everyone will love it. And I'd wager to bet you'll be going on more than one trip. Never thought I'd get my husband back, we've been there 3 tomes and are planning another trip early 2019.

My husband went to Disney World when he was 13. I went when I was 16. Neither of us have but maybe one or two memories from those trips. We reasoned that if our son was going to barely remember the trip that we might as well go when it would be the most magical for him! To us, the fun is for the kids and the memories are for us.

One of my favorite memories is at a Christmas party where my son begged to meet Minnie and Daisy. He waited patiently for an hour to meet the duo and gave them each a kiss. Immediately after he looked at me with these big eyes and asked, "Will Mickey and Donald be mad at me?". It was so genuine and adorable!! He was even a little nervous to see Donald at breakfast a few days later! I doubt he'll be that endearing as a teen. LOL

I'd go when your kids are 9 and 6.5...no strollers, still priced as kids at TS and CS outings, and they'll both remember everything (and be better able to handle waits, heat, walking, etc)...

Your youngest is too young to have any long term memory of it, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't go. We started taking the kids at ages 4, 1, 1. Their earliest memories were from about 6 years old, give or take a bit.

Is your 4 year old a little adventurous or more reserved and pensive? If adventurous (it's a 2nd child so this is likely!), then I say yes go now!!! If the 4 year old frightens easily from lights/sounds/new experiences, then I'd wait a year.

Very Adventurous, lol!!!!!

We have waited till our DD is 10, because it is a one and done for us, there really is no chance of going back again. Had we not lived on the other side of the world, we would definitely have gone for the first time when she was younger, as we would be able to go back. I think it depends on if you are in my shoes, or if you will be returning in a few years. They would be quite different trips.

AWESOME AGES! :thumbsup2

I found when mine were around 3-4 that was the most magical age, where they weren't scared but so mesmerized by the characters, parades etc. I don't think there is a bad age, but I do think tweens can be ... well tweens, so if you have one shot I'd avoid that age.

AND once they pass 9 ......... price of the Mouse goes way up!

Go now.

We went when the first time when my oldest was 6.

She remembers more from that trip than I do.

This past trip, our second youngest was 4. My DH'S favorite part of the entire vacation was riding IASW with her while she sang along and pointed at all the animatronics. And watching her with the characters was amazing.
First time I went, I was 11. Second time, I was 14. I barely remember those trips.

I remember every second with my kids. They may not have specific memories, but they will remember how happy they were and look back on it fondly.

we are planning trip 4 for my lil guy he is 5. He loves it and still talks about last years trip. The first 2 he doesn't remember as much as he was only 2 but loves looking at the pictures from that trip. It all depends on the kids.

We did 3 & 6, 6 & 9 - DH said we're not going again for a long time... and just went back at 8.5 & 11.5 :earsboy: (again pre-trip "This is the last time we go for a LONG time" - post-trip, yeah we'll be back in 2019).

We took it very easy at 3 & 6 - no late nights, only 5 days in the parks etc. 6 & 9 we hit a few bigger rides, a couple nights. Then last month - it was ALL DISNEY ALL THE TIME. Multiple parks per day, all the night shows. It just gets better every time but every.single.time is magical!
