In order to get FD you are required to purchase the PH option. I would be leary to remove the PH option once you're there or you may very well end up paying for the dining since you didn't fulfill the requirements for 'Free Dining.' For the sake of $70/ticket you could end up paying for food the entire length of your visit. Is it really worth it to try this?

I don't think they would allow you to change a 2 day PH ticket to a 3 day base ticket.

Sure they would. The requirement is a 2-day PH which you purchased. They allow people to use these tickets to upgrade to AP and new tickets at a later date, so why wouldn't they let you upgrade them once you're there. Many military members used to take advantage of free dining, buy the minimum required ticket and upgrade to the Salute tickets. (Prices don't allow this anymore.) This is no different than that.

I've been able to keep up with this thread the entire time, except for today! I booked Pop 11/25-11/29, but then around 11:30 this morning my SIL said she changed her mind and still wanted to go. So now we have a reservation at Coronado Springs since all the values are booked. So I guess it'll be awhile before we finalize our plans, since we now will stalk the site to see if she can get Pop or if we keep the mod. Nothing's ever easy, right?

No. I'm saying that you can buy a 2-Day PH to qualify for FD. You can then upgrade it to a 3-Day or longer Base ticket once you are at WDW. The cost of the upgrade depends on the difference in price from the cost of the 2-Day PH ($275) and whatever the gate price is of the pass you're upgrading to. AFAIK, you can upgrade most tickets to any other more expensive ticket as long as you have not used any of the special features. If you use a special feature like the hopping capability or plus feature then then pass is stuck as that type and you can only upgrade to that same type of pass. So, you can't hop for two days and than upgrade to a base ticket for the rest of the time. Sorry!

I have a question out to the pros on the Theme Park forum right now and will report back.
Robin is absolutely correct!

Well patience paid off... Was up at 530a, tried on line... nothing... 7a came around and finally around 12p connected to Disney! (5hr wait)... 1hr waiting on hold and finally talked to somebody!!
Dates 9/23-9/30 CBR (w/Gift Cards) (3Adults, 2Children (2,6))
Nothing was available... was contemplating changing, but decided to wait...
and wait...
and wait...

Finally around 3pm, CBR showed up for standard and water view room!!
Yay we got out trip!!!

Also as of about 15min ago POR was available too, but no Gift Cards.

Is refurbishments worth $450?

My understanding is that the poster wants to upgrade from a 2 day park hopper ticket to a 3 day base ticket. That's where I see the challenge but I'm quite willing to be wrong. I just don't want to see the poster lose their FD if they remove the park hopper option. If they were to do this, why wouldn't everyone who doesn't intend to hop but is forced to purchase the PH tickets because it's park of the deal?

Sorry, I am not familiar with Salute tickets and how those work/worked.

That's totally up to you! If you haven't already, browse through the CBR thread: https://www.disboards.com/threads/d...pdates-4-19-17.3461094/page-287#post-57496407

There's some good discussion about people who are there now or have been recently, and all the updates on construction progress. If a TS and full food court are important to you, you won't get those at CBR during construction. So it depends on your priorities. For me it was a no-brainer to pay a value price for a moderate. I'll hardly be in my room, though, and don't plan on eating at the resort hardly at all.

What's the giftcard thing people keep talking about?

No the prices are not inflated, FYI you can verify room per night cost by simply looking for resort rooms in the normal inventory by not going thru the special offers
Yes, what I'm saying is when I look at the prices under normal inventory they're cheaper than the FD package

This thread has been awesome, thanks everybody! I didn't get the dates I wanted, but I did book free dining, 2 rooms (That was crazy, doing online by myself) CR TPV in December. I'll keep checking for dates that work better for us. But I'm happy to have something booked!

I loved all the positive encouragement, the don't panic, keep watching, and you may get just what you want. Pixie dust for everyone!

Off topic a little, when did they stop including dessert with a QS meal? It's been a while since I went. In 2014 a QS plan was 2 meals with dessert and 1 snack. So there are 2 snacks now, but you lose 2 desserts for the QS plan. Just wondering.

I tried this a few years ago and was told that it was not allowed - I had to keep the Hopper. Of course it is possible that I had one of "those" folks at Guest Services who just didn't know what they were doing. Without better guidance, I just added the days and went about my business.

Anyone have success changing a Hopper to a Base ticket by adding days and bridging?

can I pick everyone's brains? I'm making a power point, yes I'm obsessive. to show both my DH who is only familiar with TS dining and my friend and her DH who have never done dining.

don't worry about the small details (like costs I am going off gut - such as the no show fee - htis is justwhat I've thrown together in the last 10 minutes with no research - anyone else think of anything I'm missing. We've done the TS dining plan about 4 times so I feel like I have that under control. There are only a couple restaurants we really like and a couple we've wanted to try. If we did Akershus dinner and Ohana breakfast, those 2 out of pocket meals don't add up to the upgraded cost for either of our parties. So then it becomes a question of paying that OOP cost and keeping all those QS meals or paying the upgraded cost which we then have 4 more meals to come up with and we lose a lot of QS. as mentioned in a prior post, we are a party of 9 - 6 of whom are girls (14, 11, 10, & 7) or moms who all eat fairly light

QS plan
•Included in our cost already
•2 QS meals and 2 snacks per night per person
•This equals 48 snack credits and 48 QS meals for W party and 60snack credits and 60 QS meals for S party

Pros to Quick Service
•No reservations to make!
•Smaller portions
•Can often convert 1 QS credit to 3 snacks if the dining partner offers it
•Easier to share meals for those who are lighter eaters
•We can eat breakfast in our cabins, thereby allowing everyone to have full 2 more meals each day.
•There are many QS options available around parks and resorts. Each country in EPCOT has excellent choices with unique dining
•Can still pay Out of Pocket (OOP) for certain TS meals if we want, possibly save 10% with Disney Visa and still have large number of QS meals left.

Cons to QS
•You can get in a rut with food options if you don’t choose wisely (too many eggs & burgers anyone?)
•No character meals

Disney Dining Plan (DDP)
•Upgraded cost to participate in the dining plan
•Includes one QS and one table service (TS) and 2 snacks per day per person
•Upgraded cost: S: $532.26 W: $507.84

Pros to DDP
•Character meals are included
•Can really save big if you eat expensive meals

Cons to DDP
•Reservations required –
–can be difficult to obtain
–you may end with a reservation time that overlaps a desired fast pass line
–you may be stuck in a line and your dining time is coming close
–there is a $10 per person no show fee
–You could be at on side of the park and your dining reservation is completely on the other side
–You must commit to a park 180 days in advance due to having to make reservations (Fast Pass is 60 days, so your commitment to a park is closer to travel dates)
•Tons of food
–All but one or 2 TS character meals are buffets. A lot of others are also buffets. Can be difficult to “eat your fill”
–Often leftovers on ordered meals (can’t easily be carried around) and buffets you can’t take anything with you either.

Does anyone else feel like the room prices are inflated on the FD plan? I priced my package out several times and I just can't figure out why there's an extra almost $400 in there. I even included tax, still $400 more. The site won't let you break down the package to see how much the room costs.
Same here

DON'T GIVE UP CHECKING IF YOU DON'T FIND WHAT YOU WANT THE FIRST TIME......or the first 30 times:tilt:.

I just checked again for my dates and got a Garden view at POR with free dining upgrade to DDP and 7 days park tickets with PH for $270 less than I had it booked with the room discount and Canadian ticket offer.

All day there had been no availability for Garden view....it was just Royal rooms!

Don't give up!!!!!!!pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

I agree after all the gift cards are just money going right back to Disney! Im bitter my TA lost my gc deal because she wasn't online till 7 and put me in a resort costing me a grand more!!!!!!

WOW!!! Can you book a different package then cancel the TA's? You won't get your GC but $1000. more is not chump change.
