A Grand Tour of The Entire Midwest, But Mostly Wisconsin (UPDATE 11/12--BONUS Texas TR NOW COMPLETE)

And remember, those metal bleachers may look cold in December, but the Packers do heat them. In June, July and August!

The only way my skinny butt would be sitting in those bleachers in December is if I was dressed like Ralphie's brother in The Christmas Story. Someone would have to hold my beer and have a straw handy.

Based on the photos you've shared, it appears the audible was a good one. She looks very happy. And is still getting plenty of exploring done!

Funny how one decision I thought was minor worked out and led to her career choice. She is out on the boat today wrestling sharks and taking their blood.

Disney World will never be the same.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not let them know you know me. Tell them that you are good friends with Tim and Barry. Any idea when you are going? Would be kind of fun to see the carnage.

It's been awesome group to be a part of over the years. Some lifelong friends made here.

Speaking of which, we are planning to be in the Miami area later this summer....

Yes, it has and yes I have. Except for Paul, he is under this notion that my sweet little girl is out to shiv him.

First question about visiting Miami is WHY? When are you coming down? Are you planning on hitting the Keys while you are here? We would need to meet up sometime.

You spent your day off reading this?! You must have been desperate!

I needed something to get me out of work mode!

This kid. And we're not done yet!

Hmmm....shall we get the rumors going?

It's fun, and it's usually cheaper than buying tickets to the game.

Ticket prices are outrageous - I am trying to take DH to 3 different games for his b-day this year - choked on the first set, waiting for tickets to go on sale for the other 2 games. I feel fortunate that this is something we can do.......but I do think it will be nice to throw in a couple of stadium tours just in case it doesn't work out to get tickets to the games.

I really shouldn't be surprised anymore, should I?

I wouldn't think so.

I guess I'll have to ask if you want a TR on the week we spent in Texas over spring break.

::yes::

We've done Disney before, of course, but it will be fun to see it all again for the first time through Drew's eyes.

That will be awesome. And the other kids may even be old enough to have a little freedom together if you and Julie choose to let them.

Not at the rate Disney hikes its prices.

Gee, thanks for the reality check there.

But the real question is.... is that the bed he started with?

Just barely!

Yeah, I can sorta see that.

You can only get kicked in the head so many times.

But I can't see that. Might be because I'm at work, though.

Somebody proposed that American football should be called "handegg", since you're primarily carrying an egg shape in your hand. I presented both sides of the argument.

Both! Why can't it be both!

It really is both. It's a game I love to watch and don't know if I would ever let my kids play.

I'm hoping that they'll come up with a helmet or helmet/shoulder protector that will more effectively prevent those types of injuries.
I'm thinking like how after Dale Earnhardt died, racing leagues enforced use of the Hans Device.

Supposedly there's a new helmet they're trying out this year. Hopefully they'll find something that works. I think there's only so much a helmet can do against some of these hard hits, thought.

Hmmm... Maybe. Young men tend to think of themselves as immortal. I dunno.

Money talks!

Huh. Interesting. Sounds like it's a sellout every game, so why would you move a successful (financially) franchise?

Well, many owners have swindled convinced cities to use public money to build them new stadiums--while the team gets the lion's share of profit from concessions, luxury suite rentals, ticket sales, etc. A community like Green Bay doesn't have the tax/revenue base that larger cities do. It's all about the money.

Oh! So, just a matter of waiting. Nice.

His great-grandkids will thank him! Posthumously, I'm guessing.

Come a little farther north, son.

We don't even know what tundra is.

I prefer to think of it as "set apart".

Sure. There's a reason they call it the "bubble".

Yeah, I can see that.

"Welcome to the Hall of Fame!"
"Don't care, don't care, don't care, don't know him, don't care, don't care...."

Pretty much. Even in the national Hall of Fame, I'm more interested in finding the guys from my favorite team.

I only marginally follow NFL... but I certainly know that name.

Only lost one game in the playoffs...to the Philadelphia Eagles.:rolleyes1

Oh! So that's who the field is named after. Okay.

Yep. That about sums up my knowledge of him.

I thought it was "My house is right over there."
or
"Can you tell me how to get to Sausalito?"
"Sure it's right over that way."

 You know me. I always go straight for the fart joke.

Really! But... how could you tell?

Um...

Well, people in Wisconsin have that Midwest-"nice" thing going. They wouldn't lie to me, would they/

So... is that a green covering overtop of the field? Or had they just not painted the lines?

No, that's the grass. They don't paint it in the offseason.

So, you're saying it's time to cull the herd?

Great idea! Then I won't have to pay for their car insurance.

Or was it just a cruel joke?
"See this? You can never come here. Never."

That's what it felt like. This is for special people! Not you.

Do know that name, too.

Reggie was incredible to watch. Amazing combination of athleticism and brute strength.

Team record holder for 178 consecutive passes without an interception?
Wow! You guys were sure lucky to get him!!!

Ah, Bubby Brister. Those were some dark days.

 No, I'm sure you aren't.

Just once before I die. That's all I ask.

:) Nice they all got along so well.

They are a wonderful family!

But then when it echoes back it's a mirror image, so you got hoisted by your own petard.

Dagnabbit! I thought I'd found the loophole.

Cool shot. :thumbsup2

:thanks:

Atta boy.
Teach 'em respect when they're young.

Gonna suck when they're bigger than you and return the favour though.

There's nothing better as a boy. I still remember the first time I beat my dad at golf. One of the best days ever. I never caught my dad with a forearm shiver, though. I guess I owe him one.

Whoa. That looks like quite the climb.
And add in kid carrying, too.... :faint:

It wasn't terrible. Of course, I wasn't carrying the kid.:rolleyes1

That's why we get along so well. We're both idiots.

I see what you did there. Nice touch.

Gotta try and earn points any way I can. Even though I'm still down a million or two.

Scotty happens.

Yes, he does.

I didn't know it was possible to move that slowly.

I think they actually start moving in reverse.

Nice little re-connect there.

It was. They were really happy to see Julie and catch up, and gracious hosts while we crashed the party.

 No, I'm sure that was perfectly comfortable.
Did you bring a gift?

Um...I think we did? That's Julie's department, if I'm completely honest.

Great shot. :)

Never get between a kid and icing.

That's not celebrating. That's just me stretching my arms... vigorously.... a lot.... in an up and down pumping motion.

You just watch yourself, mister. Getting awfully close to the line there.

That stadium tour looked pretty cool. Especially the part where you got to be down on the field. I don't know much about football but...still looked like an enjoyable outing! Also, I love how the kids all hung out together. That must have been almost like a break for the adults lol.

It was pretty neat. Like I said, the stadium is probably the only one left in the NFL that has real historic character to it, so if I was going to tour only one, that would be it.

It definitely makes it much easier for the adults when the kids are entertaining themselves!

Apologies for being a major slacker. Been pretty busy and it's not gonna let up for a bit. Just trying to stay afloat as it is.

BUT, I did find a few spare hours today and think, *THINK* I can make some headway on some reading.

I understand! I just realized last night that I have totally been missing out on your DL trip report, so now I'm way behind! Sorry about that--I get really thrown off when people have multiple TR's going at once. I'm not used to looking in 2 places for updates! So I promise I will get over there!

I think I have missed out on a lot of @franandaj 's updates for the same reason--I thought her other TR was done and wasn't checking on it!

The tour looked pretty nice, especially if you're a sports fan.

Absolutely!

I don't blame Sarah one tiny bit. OY! That takes bed hog to dizzying new heights!

It's definitely debatable whether she was actually getting any sleep.

I love that you and Barry and Bambi have hit it off so well. It' so great to see close friendships form through here. :)

We have such a great time with them! Wish they were closer so we could hang out more often. They're wonderful people.

Lotsa sports in that one. But seriously, I know you guys really like that stuff. I too have been on the fields of some neat stadiums, you know because Marching Band! :lmao:

Hey, whatever helps you relate to the chapter material!:rotfl2:

I'm glad that your family and Barry's get along so well. I remember having lots of fun with kids of my parents friends. Even if we only saw them a few times in my lives, I have lots of fond memories of getting together and I'm sure your kids will remember those as well. I totally get why you would want to stay at an Embassy suites by this point. Besides they have great breakfast!

Yes! It's neat to have friends in different places around the country, too.

Love Embassy Suites! It's always great to find one that is somewhat affordable. Usually they're well out of our price range.

And I'm sorry I missed out on your other TR updates--I had no idea you were still updating that one! My bad.

I just don't know how somebody so little can sleep so big.

I know you saw Dave's epic sleeping habits from several TR's ago. So at this point, nothing surprises me.

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Look... the question is, which one can you watch and actually stay awake?

I'd say that settles the argument, right there.

My brother once tried to get me into soccer. I told him no, because every game ends 1-0. He didn't like that and tried to make me watch the World Cup. We turned on a game, and the score was 1-0 with 60 minutes to go. I said, "We don't need to watch the rest--they already scored the goal." Sure enough, that's how it ended. He didn't think it was as funny as I did.

Good points... I remember playing in high school. Some of the injuries I had still linger from time to time. And I'm sure I've had at least one concussion. But the studies and baseline concussion tests weren't something they were doing 20 years ago. I love the game, but thinking back to the injuries I've had, and the injuries I've seen... hard to decide if its worth it.

I hate to hear the stories about former players who can't walk, do simple tasks, or remember much of anything. It's scary and sobering.

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: I actually work with someone through a non profit organization I'm involved with who is a ticket holder. She lives on the north side of Indianapolis and her family was on the list and got season tickets just a few years ago. They drive up for the weekend just about every home game. So hold out hope, Barry. I think she said it only took her family like 30 years on the list or something like that to get them.

30 years goes by like nothing!

Yes. Yes, when you talk about Lambeau Field, I always hear that voice uttering that line.

And of course there's no tundra. They put those heating elements under the field surface to thaw it.

What a bunch of pansies.

Well played, Mark.

At last, somebody appreciates my brilliance.

Stay off the lawn!

Dang kids!

Well, cheese... Green Bay... I mean come on now.

Yeah, I guess I should have seen that coming.

I'd have totally taken down Barry. I mean look at him. All decked out in his green and yellow Packers shirt. He was just asking for it.

He had Evan protecting him. I think Evan is bigger than me now.

I'm glad to see that Scotty still finds new ways to "happen."

He's a neverending fount of...well, something.

I'm glad you all get along so well and had a chance to do this! And I think you'd have a blast in Disney together.

We seriously need to try that sometime. Hey, you're allowed to come along too! The more the merrier!

:thumbsup2 You're halfway across the country. If you're gonna crash a party, do it where you'll never see most of the people there again anyway.

I like the way you think. More cake for me!

That's almost as good as MK fireworks from a tower room in the Contemporary.

Good to know. I guess I can cancel that reservation.

The only way my skinny butt would be sitting in those bleachers in December is if I was dressed like Ralphie's brother in The Christmas Story. Someone would have to hold my beer and have a straw handy.

I'd have a hot chocolate. But nobody would be able to sit next to you because you wouldn't be able to put your arms down.

Funny how one decision I thought was minor worked out and led to her career choice. She is out on the boat today wrestling sharks and taking their blood.

Pretty cool stuff! Also, better her than me.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not let them know you know me. Tell them that you are good friends with Tim and Barry. Any idea when you are going? Would be kind of fun to see the carnage.

It will most likely have to be sometime during the summer due to our school schedules. I know, July in Florida. Our strategy is to always expect heat and crowds, and then we're never disappointed.

Yes, it has and yes I have. Except for Paul, he is under this notion that my sweet little girl is out to shiv him.

Personally, I wouldn't mess with a woman who wrestles sharks for a living.

First question about visiting Miami is WHY? When are you coming down? Are you planning on hitting the Keys while you are here? We would need to meet up sometime.

Well, it's more accurate to say that we'll be around Miami. When polling the family for destinations to visit in the south, they all said they wanted to see the Everglades. So we'll be spending a day there--probably also stopping in the visitor center at Biscayne Bay National Park. Unfortunately, we won't make it as far as the Keys, but we're really stretching the driving distance on this trip as it is. I'll PM you the dates.

I needed something to get me out of work mode!

So you came to visit the state employee. I gotcha.

Hmmm....shall we get the rumors going?

:scared1:

As I am fond of saying, if Julie has another child, it will result in either a malpractice suit or a divorce.

Yeah, with 6 people I had to give up on regular game tickets. Especially when not all of the 6 are interested in watching a full game. The tour seems to work for all audiences and the wallet.

Just remember, you asked for it!

That will be awesome. And the other kids may even be old enough to have a little freedom together if you and Julie choose to let them.

I think that probably will be the case. I remember being there as a teen and being allowed to go off and do my own thing. The freedom was intoxicating!

Gee, thanks for the reality check there.

That's me. Destroying dreams wherever I go.

You can only get kicked in the head so many times.

There's a limit?
Huh.

Maybe I should tell people to stop kicking me when I'm down.

Supposedly there's a new helmet they're trying out this year. Hopefully they'll find something that works. I think there's only so much a helmet can do against some of these hard hits, thought.

Yeah, agreed. Plus, you could have the best/most padded helmet in the world, but if it doesn't stop whiplash...

His great-grandkids will thank him! Posthumously, I'm guessing.

Nah. Kids these days don't say thank you.

We don't even know what tundra is.

I may have trod upon it.

 You know me. I always go straight for the fart joke.

No one on the planet is surprised.

No one.

Well, people in Wisconsin have that Midwest-"nice" thing going. They wouldn't lie to me, would they/

No! Of course not! Definitely not! Absolutely not!!

:rolleyes1

Great idea! Then I won't have to pay for their car insurance.

See? Win/win.

Dagnabbit! I thought I'd found the loophole.

tibbangaD

There's nothing better as a boy. I still remember the first time I beat my dad at golf. One of the best days ever. I never caught my dad with a forearm shiver, though. I guess I owe him one.

How old is he? Might want to wait another couple of decades.

Just sayin'.

It wasn't terrible. Of course, I wasn't carrying the kid.:rolleyes1

 Good move!

That's why we get along so well. We're both idiots.

::yes::

Um...I think we did? That's Julie's department, if I'm completely honest.

D'oh. Of course it is. Question withdrawn.

Never get between a kid and icing.

I have a feeling the same could be said of you.

You just watch yourself, mister. Getting awfully close to the line there.

 Whoops!!

And I'm sorry I missed out on your other TR updates--I had no idea you were still updating that one! My bad.

No worries, as I said to your responses, it was mostly food and wine updates and most of them were not Homer worthy updates, so you didn't miss much!

Well, I was embarrassingly far behind, so I'll just say that I enjoyed reading about your road trip throughout (mostly) Wisconsin AND your birthday Hilton Head vacation. And, yay, I caught up just in time for your return to my state! :thumbsup2

Our boys slept the same way when they were little! Crazy. I know how Sarah feels.

We did the same Lambeau Field tour as you. Loved it. Our guide was fantastic – a crazy passionate fan who did a wonderful job sharing the history of the team in a way that was so engaging (especially impressive considering my family has zero interest in the topic). I can see why you enjoy visiting stadiums in different cities.

We Vikings fans weren’t bitter about the Packers’ Super Bowl rings either. Nope… :sad2:

Please tell me you visited the massive gift shop at Lambeau. It was spectacular. So funny to see the insane variety of Packer items in the many rooms of the store.

Ha! About Scotty’s Lambeau Leap. Drew’s reaction is great! We all did the leap too. I really enjoyed visiting the stadium, in general.

Can’t wait to read more!

Chapter 21: They Don’t Gain Another Yard. You Blitz All Night!
If they cross the line of scrimmage, I'm gonn’a take every last one of you out!

We begin this chapter with another look at “sharing a bed with a toddler”.

KPvlIkUtfhRUpNG9OKRKclep-YJBcOQsmDcUpegmhot5O9mephKFwPFcKV1Xgeb68eQeWRM3j1YZyTm_jE3jNSpy2EWsC3RpnHtMKbiECAH37b0ExbOMLuaxIIfaDRLQBrdZ6OfPC8GMsisoY_vwxuTdpckPjFDOQ8dfntXm3MnW06hAac1CiaC2NXXsGi7vVt8HXuvTDlt7GogSMw_3W_gKJ8Jb0NZKCWNRVb7m1MiSZGI_ITI3pg9bgWcJ00zBa7SeJAH5Jo1cv0JBV61Ife73o013nQB2lMY1rYM3LkSe2vdo32lOTZ12i9iVvqdsnoU3hUkKd4LEZaiK1P6rGfkKC1BfeT9g1kQaq2Gosf7OHR9-CH_oghZC6j6gHyB7MfoUDNzth10c9wCi4MOEvWO26GU5Xjfrxx_K-dpk4X6x8ADsVJbBA3KFBjdSXUyVKad_EaOiROUqdpeG1O4uU3PJUevw5ggnl4vHS0PGn2Bdmm-CZBCrKYZdLKaynKwOuaTuw_mcv6GPoscCtpZh6yDjx9ePu3ecZR3FzWoCH8tL0rhWj3mS-Jr5ipWfe9ojweMPctBCg1SfLJxjWaOLNuJEWVXl-qfy6T7HH9qKmvxif584lm3K=w627-h836-no
More like sharing a bed with a hurricane.

On our most recent trip to Texas, Sarah reached the point where she just asked to sleep on the floor.
I do believe that the boy has worked out a very effective strategy here.

It was the 4th of July, so we got decked out in our finest patriotic gear and went out to celebrate that most American of institutions football (or “handegg”, if you are European).
I always liked “Hand-orb”, as descriptions go.

It truth, it’s just our version of Gladiatorial Games.
We are Rome (and in entirely too many ways)

Excellent counter-argument:

216.jpg
 Good point. (and for comparison, I suppose “egg” does work better in this context)

Depending on your view, this is either a great sport featuring incredible strength, athletic feats, and teamwork, or it’s a brutal barbaric game that maims people for life.
And the correct answer would be: ::yes::

Personally, I love football and enjoy it immensely, but must confess that the more we read about the effects of the sport on people long-term, the more I wonder about the game’s future. At the very least, I’m glad all this research is being done, because then at least if someone chooses to play this sport, he goes in with eyes wide open.
Nice assessment.

Green Bay is the home of the Green Bay Packers football team, the third-oldest franchise in the National Football League.
And the only one if those three to still have both their original name and be located in their original home city.

the city owns the team, so they won’t be going anywhere.
I always thought this tidbit was right amazing.
The rest of the franchises are pretty much the playthings of obscenely wealthy folk.
Some of them play generally nice, others like to threaten and even extort from their hosts.
All in all, I like the Green Bay model better, but what I think don’t matter much, now do it?

The home of the Packers is Lambeau Field, a historic venue built in 1957 and probably the only professional football stadium left in America that carries the same kind of cultural significance as historic baseball stadiums such as Wrigley Field or Fenway Park.
Hummm…
Nope, I can’t think of another current one that has any history.

The wait list for season tickets has well over 80,000 names on it, including Barry, who should be able to purchase his tickets in about 400 years or so.
long but for me personally being able to buy even one regular season game ticket to any NFL event currently has a wait time roughly equal to infinity.

If you’re a football fan at all, you’ve already thought of a reverent, dulcet-toned NFL Films announcer describing the “Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field”
Which is both incorrect and illogical…
But does make for great story telling.

But then again, the name: “Sahara Desert” is equally illogical but prevents virtually no one from accepting it as common parlance.

Being located in a relatively small community, the football stadium dwarfs everything around it. It can be seen for a couple of miles while driving into the city
Kind’a like the presence that medieval castles imposed upon the landscape.

and has the same odd feel as Disneyland in the sense that there’s a world-famous site surrounded by incredibly mundane houses, fast-food joints, etc.
Harbor Boulevard here we come!

And, of course, there’s the Lombardi quote most commonly used by Eagles fans: “What the he—is going on out there?!”
And then there’s one specifically for the long suffering fans of many a team:
“At many a moment on many a day, I am convinced that pro football must be a game for madmen…
and I must be one of them.”

yet my only note for Mr. Lambeau is to acknowledge that he is immortally enshrined giving the “pull my finger” gesture.

There is no greater honor.

I always enjoy it when I get to see something in real life that I’ve come to know through television…
Agreed…
It offers a new perspective.
Sometimes intensified, bit also at times more tempered.

Here’s the whole crew. Man, we have a lot of kids.

Y3hyj5yWbFRoNEnxF18K2-sV_3_zcQZI2tYZKgNY0J7v1HJmbmnT9P7ZPmKMcdTUbFYf84T1bQoPc4NmmdxWn41HxIof9d_eTlXhLSu-vPW_R40JQ16cA7M7gxdCcICuNTlr8T_jgSFb9QTB4zSvf8x_EyrUMKU-GjVSC5FB24ACgAWsbTLLgMF5zVpAPUK_g7TV8M4gjYoUw3VxRdqJCS6_nTuL5R_54-8r_Z-s6109GkCSN9kI91TI6LmrxKk8TRYYa57d1DjNtnYT8cR2JGc9xTdS5TNfll7NPu8B4s36YUVxso5pu05F49IAfCu7sx8w1wHrbTvVHjnYQF1WHKzBcU829mS7QEUvxpU4WNXtceSrEBoOFtSaRNY09OzjdLghmnOznKj1_ButXEQwSJ7_u1I3IcyED_73OVvdENyUuybj_d15CklzHh2Kln9QiYODeYseg_HvqvuslD_CagckjdaGFgLDzXExUeE9JpH4WhgmXYfp5z40iX6wiie_qhs1kojTK8NJMCQFWaFAWQ3IUB45hH4jfWA5YTJgGKMOEzFiXsffaobGmloLVtaxhRtClhZO0qyOxQbVZPbej3cndaPBJbV4HibyVVzIZYOiE_XKmi-M=w1235-h824-no
Great picture though.
Hey, add a couple more and you can start a baseball team.

A side cabinet displayed “Super Bowl rings” something with which Eagles fans are not familiar.
But we’re not bitter.
Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more…

Here, the guide demonstrated the terrific acoustics of the stadium bowl. He said you can stand up and yell from this spot and get a perfect echo reverberating around the stadium. To prove it, he encouraged us all to stand and yell, “Go Pack Go!”
Yeah… ummm…
I’m just gonn’a have to take his word for it here.

Still, I outsmarted him. I shouted “Og Kcap Og!”
He did supply you with the opening here.

Was it cheesy?
Disney would call such a thing “magical”

I was ready to tackle somebody. So I caught Scotty with a flying forearm shiver.
Sooooo…
Mark Happened?

It’s always neat to walk out at field level at a pro sports stadium, to get an idea of what it’s like to be on the field. You don’t get this view as an average fan.
Oddly, when I’ve been on a pro ball field, they surprise me as being smaller then I expect.
At least that was my perception of Charlotte and Indianapolis.
(and the old Orange Bowl, but that was a very long time ago)

With that, the tour ended and we were forced to trudge our way up the bleachers, back to being common peons once more. No crowd noise pumping us up here.
And worse, no elevator this time.

No, seriously, dude…what are you doing?

I believe the term is “Happening”

So we eventually abandoned that plan and headed to our new home away from home, Culver’s. Everyone seemed happy with that choice.
Cheese… Malt… Grease…
What not to love.

So, yes: we crashed a total stranger’s birthday party. Not awkward at all.
All in a day’s work.

That's me. Destroying dreams wherever I go.

I knew it!

There's a limit?
Huh.

Maybe I should tell people to stop kicking me when I'm down.

I would think that eventually you'd black out. Unless you have a really hard head.

Yeah, agreed. Plus, you could have the best/most padded helmet in the world, but if it doesn't stop whiplash...

That's definitely a huge problem. I really don't think there's anything they can do for that. Unless you can refine tackling techniques. The game happens so fast that it's hard to police.

Nah. Kids these days don't say thank you.

Lousy ingrates!

I may have trod upon it.

Once or twice or just about every day?

No one on the planet is surprised.

No one.

Hey, they say to write what you know.

No! Of course not! Definitely not! Absolutely not!!

:rolleyes1

I suspect I'm being hoodwinked here. Hoodwinked is a good word that we don't use enough, in my opinion.

See? Win/win.

So let it be written. So let it be done.

tibbangaD

Whoa. That's expert-level backwards writing there.

 Good move!

You can always count on me to be a selfish jerk.

D'oh. Of course it is. Question withdrawn.

I don't know how we husbands do anything. Whenever someone asks me to schedule something, I have to ask Julie if we're doing anything that date. If it were up to me, we'd never make a single doctor appointment, birthday party, wedding, etc.

I have a feeling the same could be said of you.

I would gladly trade icing for pie, any day of the week.

The nerve! Making fun of someone in his own TR. I'd never do that to you.

No worries, as I said to your responses, it was mostly food and wine updates and most of them were not Homer worthy updates, so you didn't miss much!

I feel so relieved! Thought I was being a terrible DIS-friend.

Well, I was embarrassingly far behind, so I'll just say that I enjoyed reading about your road trip throughout (mostly) Wisconsin AND your birthday Hilton Head vacation. And, yay, I caught up just in time for your return to my state! :thumbsup2

Hi Dugette!:wave2:

You have nothing to apologize for! I've completely missed the boat on your TR(s)--I'm sorry!

Thanks for checking in!

Our boys slept the same way when they were little! Crazy. I know how Sarah feels.

I don't know how they do it! I guess eventually they settle down.

They're a lot of fun! I'm surprised they let Vikings fans on the tour, though.

We Vikings fans weren’t bitter about the Packers’ Super Bowl rings either. Nope… :sad2:

At least they can't accuse us of being bandwagon fans.

Please tell me you visited the massive gift shop at Lambeau. It was spectacular. So funny to see the insane variety of Packer items in the many rooms of the store.

Of course! I got a Frozen Tundra t-shirt.:thumbsup2

Ha! About Scotty’s Lambeau Leap. Drew’s reaction is great! We all did the leap too. I really enjoyed visiting the stadium, in general.

I love how Drew looks like even he's exasperated with Scotty at this point.:rotfl:

Can’t wait to read more!

We're about ready for a certain special guest start!:rolleyes1

If they cross the line of scrimmage, I'm gonn’a take every last one of you out!

You make sure they remember...forever! The night they played the Titans.

Is that not one of the greatest movie speeches in history? Fires me up every time.

More like sharing a bed with a hurricane.

I got caught in the path of the tornado...

I do believe that the boy has worked out a very effective strategy here.

He's no dummy, that's for sure.

I always liked “Hand-orb”, as descriptions go.

It truth, it’s just our version of Gladiatorial Games.
We are Rome (and in entirely too many ways)

A lot of truth in that statement.::yes::

 Good point. (and for comparison, I suppose “egg” does work better in this context)

I hadn't seen that graphic before, but it made me laugh.

And the correct answer would be: ::yes::

Yep.

Nice assessment.

I hope it works out. I think we've seen peak football, and it's starting a decline now. There's no rule that says it always has to remain this popular.

And the only one if those three to still have both their original name and be located in their original home city.

Very true. That's what makes the history so interesting.

I like that model better, too. Amazing that it still exists!

Hummm…
Nope, I can’t think of another current one that has any history.

Most of the teams are in fairly new stadiums now.

long but for me personally being able to buy even one regular season game ticket to any NFL event currently has a wait time roughly equal to infinity.

The dirty secret of the NFL is that the games actually make for better viewing at home.:rolleyes1

Which is both incorrect and illogical…
But does make for great story telling.

But then again, the name: “Sahara Desert” is equally illogical but prevents virtually no one from accepting it as common parlance.

The story is always better than the truth.

Kind’a like the presence that medieval castles imposed upon the landscape.

Yeah, I could see it that way.

Harbor Boulevard here we come!

There are worse places to be!

And then there’s one specifically for the long suffering fans of many a team:
“At many a moment on many a day, I am convinced that pro football must be a game for madmen…
and I must be one of them.”

::yes:: In other words--"Why am I still watching this??"

There is no greater honor.

I wanted to make the All-Madden Team when I was little. That would have been cool.

Agreed…
It offers a new perspective.
Sometimes intensified, bit also at times more tempered.

It really makes a difference with golf courses. I appreciate Augusta National when I watch the Masters on TV so much more now.

Great picture though.
Hey, add a couple more and you can start a baseball team.

I'll let @FreezinRafiki work on that. We're all tapped out.

Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more…

It's a sad state of affairs here...

Yeah… ummm…
I’m just gonn’a have to take his word for it here.

That was Bambi's approach.

He did supply you with the opening here.

I was kinda proud of myself for finding the loophole.

Disney would call such a thing “magical”

Fine line between magical and cheesy, I guess.

Sooooo…
Mark Happened?

Sure. I guess Scotty gets it from somewhere.

Oddly, when I’ve been on a pro ball field, they surprise me as being smaller then I expect.
At least that was my perception of Charlotte and Indianapolis.
(and the old Orange Bowl, but that was a very long time ago)

Lambeau seemed pretty big to me--probably because it dwarfs everything else around it.

And worse, no elevator this time.

Water...water...

I believe the term is “Happening”

Yes, this would certainly qualify.

Cheese… Malt… Grease…
What not to love.

Beats me. Just add bacon.

All in a day’s work.

That's how we roll.

I knew it!

Nice to have found a similarly minded soul, no?

I would think that eventually you'd black out. Unless you have a really hard head.

I have two stories about that.
Which I won't bore you with....

But yes.

And the scar to prove it.

That's definitely a huge problem. I really don't think there's anything they can do for that. Unless you can refine tackling techniques. The game happens so fast that it's hard to police.

Yup. But there have been improvements.

Once or twice or just about every day?

When living up north? (more north)... every day.

I suspect I'm being hoodwinked here. Hoodwinked is a good word that we don't use enough, in my opinion.

::yes:: So is flibbertigibbet.

You can always count on me to be a selfish jerk.

Always is a strong term.

But, yes.

I would gladly trade icing for pie, any day of the week.

::yes::

The nerve! Making fun of someone in his own TR. I'd never do that to you.

Yes, I've noticed your inability to effectively do that.

You might want to keep up after the next update, pretty soon Liesa's, mine and Ponzi's TRs will collide.
Nope. I'll be posting after the two of yours.

How else am I going to remember what happened???

Nice to have found a similarly minded soul, no?

Birds of a feather and all that. We can tear people down together!:p

I have two stories about that.
Which I won't bore you with....

But yes.

And the scar to prove it.

Well, you can't leave it at that...

Yup. But there have been improvements.

They are trying. Sometimes I don't know how hard they're trying, but it is better.

When living up north? (more north)... every day.

I figured as much.

::yes:: So is flibbertigibbet.

Good one! I like curmudgeon as well.

Always is a strong term.

But, yes.

Takes one to know one!

Yes, I've noticed your inability to effectively do that.

This sounds like a challenge!

You might want to keep up after the next update, pretty soon Liesa's, mine and Ponzi's TRs will collide.

Great! That gives me 3 chances to keep up!:rotfl2:

Nope. I'll be posting after the two of yours.

How else am I going to remember what happened???

There is a big chunk that I'm going to leave out so that you can post it. :rolleyes1

But then how am I supposed to...... ah. I'll just copy Liesa's.

Cue the exploding helicopters...
