BEST. DAY. EVER. May '17 w/Chunkymonkey and Chubbyhubby NEW 8/28 x2 THE END!!

So glad you were able to meet up with your friend. We haven't been to 50's Prime Time in a few years but the food is good.
Great pictures of everyone.
I love your Princess Leia MB!
The quiet pools are so much more enjoyable.
I told DD you and DH were going on the Marvel at Sea cruise she is so jealous.

Mowie Wowie - Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Melon Liqueur, Peach Schnapps, Orange Juice, and Pineapple Juice

That sounds great. I'm such a sucker for a good rum drink.

So I did actually buy a back-up band in case. Because I'm a sucker and that's how Disney gets you...:rotfl:

I would totally have done this too. They do really know how to get you every which way. But the bands are pretty awesome.

50's Prime Time looks like so much fun and the food looks great. I think I'm going to have a hard time deciding what to order.

That's good news! Nathan loves the PoC movies, but I stopped watching them somewhere around halfway into #3. We decided we'd watch them all in order before our trip this summer as part of our movie-watching prep (which will also include Avatar since I haven't seen it since it came out, and a few Disney classics.)

yeah definitely better than #3, which I've only seen bits and pieces of. Doesn't measure up to the original but then nothing really will!

Your dinner at 50s looked so good!! I've still never been here, surprisingly enough. We always used to book Sci Fi instead, and now we just don't spend a ton of time in DHS and often get QS if we do, or I go to Brown Derby for the cobb salad. Maybe on another trip sometime soon...

It's really good. I'm sure they can make some GF stuff, although not sure how it will taste!

Your SW magic band is so great!

Thank you! It's my favorite purchase of the trip!

Some beautiful views of the BW - I'd like to stay here someday for the theming and the proximity to Epcot and DHS :)

Definitely, the location cannot be beat. It was awesome to be so walking distance to the two parks.

I think that's the same server we had last time we went to 50s Prime Time. I love the fresh sustainable fish of the day. The sauce and the sweet potato hash are really good. Looks like fun. BWI is really pretty. We have only been in the convention part.

Haha that's funny. He was nice, took his "role" seriously but didn't necessarily overwhelm us.
I was going to get the fish but I thought, when in Rome...get the comfort foods...:)

Woo Hoo - This is an awesome trip report! Also thanks for the preview of Pandora. I've not seen the movie, and couldn't have really cared less about Pandora world, but you've made a believer out of me, and I can't wait to experience it when we go next April! I want to be you when I grow up.... love the multiple trips you're taking this year.... keep the trip reports coming!

Thank you so much! Great to see you back on the boards! I've been meaning to comment on your Hawaii TR! I've caught up though and so far looks amazing, especially the drinks. Can't beat a good mai tai!
I am not a huge fan of Avatar, I neither like it nor dislike it, but visually you cannot deny that it is a stunning movie, and that translated into the land of Pandora. It's really cool to be able to see a brand new land at Disney!
Haha thank you! It's been very exciting so far! This is what happens when you are an adult kid and have no kids...we just play (way) too much.

That's great that you were able to meet up with J. Can you imagine living in Orlando?! I think I'd be in a park every weekend!

It's always nice to meet up with people at Disney. We actually know someone else who moved to Orlando but they have APs to..Universal so we didn't get to meet them in Disney. Haha.
I know...it sounds so dangerous for me. I'd never go to work!

I haven't eaten at 50's Prime Time in about 12 years. HS is a one day park for us. My husband loves Mama Melrose and when we've been with the grandkids, they enjoy Hollywood & Vine for the characters or Sci-Fi Drive In. Hence, 50's Prime Time gets vetoed. We need to get back there as your meals look fantastic!

It's definitely a tasty meal! I've never been to Mama Melrose. It sounds like a lot of the Italian places here in NY so just never really been a must-do for us. It does sound like it would be good though!

Your new Magic Band is super cute!

Thank you! It's my favorite purchase of the trip!

Glad you found the quiet pool. Sometimes you just need a little peace and quiet.

YES exactly!

In our 4 stays at the BW we've never found that area you did or the little cottages! I don't even know if we've ever walked by the quiet pool?? I knew it was there but I think we only even used the clown pool on two of our visits.

It was towards the Inn side, not the Villas. We just walked out that way and found the cottages and quiet pool. Not even sure if they are like regular rooms inside or suites. But they have fantastic gardens!

QUOTE="ariane37, post: 57700146, member: 445750"]Funny I never saw the 3rd installment of PoTC until last week and it was weird. And bad. Steve hadn't seen it either and he didn't see the last one which I assured him wasn't quite as strange as 3, so I'm going to watch that with him soon and we need to go see the new one because the preview was great![/QUOTE]

Yes #3 was bad, I didn't even see the entire movie. But this one is quite redeeming of the series although nothing will beat the first one.

Love your Star Wars dress! I am super excited to meet BB8 on our next trip to DHS. When you went for the dessert party, was there enough time to meet characters too? It looks like we should be able to get in ahead of the 8:15 listed time.

Thank you! Yes when during the dessert party you will be able to meet characters and roam around Launch Bay. If there is a wait that will just take up your dessert party time, but I think after 30 mins of eating sweets you probably won't want to eat any more. :)

I honestly don't think I've ever been to the 50s Prime Time Cafe. I have heard that they can make the meatloaf GF though, so it is definitely on my list to try out soon!

Cool! I'm not sure how gluten free meatloaf will taste like but everything we did eat was really yummy! Lot's of comfort food!

Ok, I got really far behind so I'm not quoting, because it would be about 90 pages of quotes or something - so much of these last few updates were awesome!!
'

Thank you!! Still have to catch up on yours too. I'm soooo out of it!

I cannot WAIT to see Pandora in October. OMG. Still super sad I had to give up my AP preview for the trip to Michigan

Well, you got yourself a lovely dorm room with no a/c...:)
Pandora was awesome. I can see how it will be Disney World's biggest draw ever at least until SW land opens!

I ended up at MK on May 4, even though I had intended to pop by DHS for those pins!!

Loved all the pictures!!

Thank you!

Oooh, this looks so pretty! I'm taking note for my ADR here in August ;)

It was quite refreshing :)

This has been my plan all along, but I definitely see the benefits of ordering the sampler, too! I'll make the call in the moment I guess

It's hard to decide but the sampler makes the decision for me. I'm too indecisive sometimes!

Yes! Much easier to converse this way! Also, I'm happy to hear it wasn't too overwhelming of an experience. In the likelihood that I'll be solo in August, I was a little concerned that it'd be a bit much, even for someone who tends to make friends with the servers!

It depends on your server. I think if you're alone they may not be as "stern" with you. I've had a server that was more motherly than stern and then I've had ones who were just plain...mean!

This is just perfection. :goodvibes

It's the perfect MB. Hence I had to get a backup!

So excited to hear more about your May the 4th. Sure beat mine at work, no doubt :rotfl:

It made up for all the other May the 4ths where I've been at work. Why is it not a national holiday!?!?

So glad you were able to meet up with your friend. We haven't been to 50's Prime Time in a few years but the food is good.
Great pictures of everyone.
I love your Princess Leia MB!
The quiet pools are so much more enjoyable.
I told DD you and DH were going on the Marvel at Sea cruise she is so jealous.

Thank you!! It was a great day so far.
The Marvel Day at Sea cruise was a surprise for us as they announced it after we booked, but we are super excited!

That sounds great. I'm such a sucker for a good rum drink.

Yeah me too. Stick some pineapple juice and an umbrella in any alcohol and I'm good to go :)

I would totally have done this too. They do really know how to get you every which way. But the bands are pretty awesome.

They are!

50's Prime Time looks like so much fun and the food looks great. I think I'm going to have a hard time deciding what to order.

The food is very good. Get the sampler and you won't have to decide :)

Lunch looked great, I'd definitely like to eat there again as well. I definitely prefer that quiet pool to the creepy clown pool!

Wow, looks like a great day so far at DHS, I loved your SW dress, very cute and different!

I am glad you enjoyed your lunch at 50's, I have tried the sampler and very tasty!

We stayed at BWV last October and we liked checking out the quiet pool area, very nice grounds.

Pandora sounds amazing, I can't wait to check it out in August.

Lunch looked great, I'd definitely like to eat there again as well. I definitely prefer that quiet pool to the creepy clown pool!

Yes the quiet pool was exactly what I needed and I even managed to doze off a bit which would never have happened with the creepy clown pool. Interestingly enough, we did not hear a single thing when we kept our balcony doors closed in our room which means the soundproofing is really good! We heard more hallway noise than pool noise.

Wow, looks like a great day so far at DHS, I loved your SW dress, very cute and different!

Thank you!!

I am glad you enjoyed your lunch at 50's, I have tried the sampler and very tasty!

It's always solid IMO. I don't know why I don't frequent it as much but usually I like the theme in Sci Fi more but the food at 50's prime time is better.

We stayed at BWV last October and we liked checking out the quiet pool area, very nice grounds.

It was very pretty! And surprisingly really quiet on that side of the resort. So different from the carnival at the crazy clown pool!

Pandora sounds amazing, I can't wait to check it out in August.

It is quite amazing indeed! Wish we had more time to explore but our few hours was a lot of fun!

Oh my gosh that restaurant looks adorable! So kitchy and cute! And the food!! Mmmmm....nothing like a plate of comfort food after all the walking around, it fuels you and feeds your soul at the same time :flower1:

We decided to get some drinks to start so DH and I shared a Mowie Wowie and J got one for herself too.

That looks delicious, I could go for one this weekend - supposed to be mid-90's here tomorrow!

Glad you were able to meet up with a friend and have a nice lunch together. Also, smart thinking finding the quiet pool and enjoying!

Too lazy to go back and quote.
Love the SW dress and bow. BB8 M&G looked cute.
Just made my ADR's for December and am looking forward to trying 50's. I have been craving the fried Chicken since reading about in somebody elses food report.
The quite pool reminds me of the quite one at POR.

Loved reading about your 50's Prime Time meal. That is one place we've never tried. We want to, but with two kids under five the best sit down meals for us are buffets, character meals, and family style meals. We figure well have plenty of years as they get older and can sit still to try these other sit down places.

We stayed at the Boardwalk a few years ago and for whatever reason the Clown pool wasn't ever really all that crowded, but we loved that quiet pool as well!

Can't wait to read for more.

For entrees, J and I both got the Sampling of Mom's Favorite Recipes - Crispy-fried Chicken, Fork Tender Pot Roast, and Traditional Meatloaf with all the fixings

This looks really good! I don't really like to get meatloaf at restaurants because I think mine is better, but this one doesn't look too bad.

DH got the Fried Chicken Platter

That is a lot of chicken. Did DH eat it all. I'm impressed if he did haha.

The service was the usual 50's Prime Time - slightly overbearing, but not too intrusive. Lots of "elbows off the table" and "finish your veggies" (I did!) were said.
That's the reason I didn't like 50's the last time we went which was a long time ago. I just want to eat my meal in peace!

I really like these! I'm trying to convince the boyfriend to come with me next May after graduation and I may get him this one to get him excited.

Oh my gosh that restaurant looks adorable! So kitchy and cute! And the food!! Mmmmm....nothing like a plate of comfort food after all the walking around, it fuels you and feeds your soul at the same time :flower1:

It is quite a cute restaurant. The servers tend to have either a "motherly" or "stern mom" demeanor. I guess it just depends on who you're getting!
I think this is the best "food" out of all the restaurants at DHS.

That looks yummy!

Also all the food looks amazing and yummy. I always love the pot roast there.

It was quite yummy and hit the spot after our active morning!

y'know, I'm 99% sure that last time I stayed there my room faced the quiet pool, but I could not tell you how to get from point A to point B in that hotel lol.

Haha, it is a very long hotel and we didn't realize the Inn side looked so different from the DVC side.

That looks delicious, I could go for one this weekend - supposed to be mid-90's here tomorrow!

It was in the mid-90s here too. It was brutal. I tried to stay in A/C all day. I can't believe I'm going to WDW in August, if I can't even take a day of 90 degree weather!

Glad you were able to meet up with a friend and have a nice lunch together. Also, smart thinking finding the quiet pool and enjoying!

It's been a great Star Wars Day so far! Let's see what the evening has in store...

Too lazy to go back and quote.

Thank you! I got many compliments on the dress.
BB8 was adorable. I'm happy we got to meet him.
You won't be disappointed in 50's Prime Time. Hope you get a charismatic server!
I've never been to POR, but I can see how they are similar because of the plantation style homes and gardens. I know it's quite beautiful! We've only stayed on the POFQ side and I really love it there.

Loved reading about your 50's Prime Time meal. That is one place we've never tried. We want to, but with two kids under five the best sit down meals for us are buffets, character meals, and family style meals. We figure well have plenty of years as they get older and can sit still to try these other sit down places.

Good thinking :)
Although if you did want to try a sit-down place, Disney is the place to do it as there are plenty of kids, even in signature restaurants. That's what I told my family when we're going down in August so they are ok with any of the meals I've booked! We will be doing BoG (dinner), Tiffins, and Yachtsman as our sit-down meals. There will be 4 kids under 5 going plus two other kids between 5-10.

We stayed at the Boardwalk a few years ago and for whatever reason the Clown pool wasn't ever really all that crowded, but we loved that quiet pool as well!

Can't wait to read for more.

Lucky you! Maybe it was the peak time of day to go to the pool, but at least the quiet pool was pretty empty!

This looks really good! I don't really like to get meatloaf at restaurants because I think mine is better, but this one doesn't look too bad.

The meatloaf was pretty good! I'd like to try your meatloaf now! I'm sure it's much better :)

That is a lot of chicken. Did DH eat it all. I'm impressed if he did haha.

Yup he ate it all!! We didn't really have breakfast, that's why. We were also going to order an appetizer but we forgot to, but thankfully so as I dont' think we would have finished our entrees if we did.

That's the reason I didn't like 50's the last time we went which was a long time ago. I just want to eat my meal in peace!

Yeah the servers are hit or miss. Sometimes their attitudes are stern and sometimes more motherly. Sometimes it's questionable and sometimes it's funny...

I really like these! I'm trying to convince the boyfriend to come with me next May after graduation and I may get him this one to get him excited.

They are my favorite magic bands ever!!

How lucky to have a friend so close by to Orlando now and even luckier for her to have Disney in her backyard :-)

Loving the meal at 50's, though I have no idea how I missed their sampler platter in the past. Love the idea of getting to try a few things all at once. I think we just got the fried chicken on our last trip and like Steve's it of course did not disappoint. Though my elbows still haven't recovered from all the torment :P

Glad you all found the quiet pool at BW. We stayed there a few years back (coincidentally overlooking the quiet pool) and Casey was all about the creepy clown pool. Which in turn meant, we were all about the insanity that is the crowds there.

I know, I'm so jealous. I mean I know I can't really live in FL full time, I can't really take the heat, but to have Disney so close...it's tempting!!

The sampler is all I've ever ordered I think! Just so fun to have so many different foods for an indecisive person like me. Cos I like to taste everything, ya know? We did get a few elbows off the table comments but we were feeling rebellious...I must admit, I like the fried chicken here better than Homecoming. :duck:

Haha she would have loved our view then!

May the 4th Part 3: Cover Me Porkins!

After sufficiently rejuvenating at the quiet pool, we got ready and headed out to Epcot for our dinner. I initially wasn't sure what to do for dinner and was going to just head back to DHS to get a spot for the SW fireworks and grab something there but since getting Express bus I knew we'd be ok even if we went to Epcot and partook in F and G booths for dinner, and took a bus over to DHS. So to Epcot we go! We also had made an FP+ for Soarin' that evening. Score!

We walked over, hoping it wouldn't rain because we didn't bring any ponchos with us, but were prepared to do buy them if necessary. But what DID we bring? My newly acquired refillable popcorn bucket. I love this thing. I don't know why I never got one before, but yes it's a pain to carry around. DH found it fits inside his backpack though so that was nice. I brought it back to Disney for our mid-May Pandora trip, and you bet I'm bringing it back in August. I mean, unless they change the color of the buckets and won't let me reuse it. But it's not like there's a chip in it like refillable mugs right?

popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

As we headed into World Showcase, I decided I really wanted something refreshing so stopped by Florida Fresh and got a fresh Watermelon Juice. It was really good, but the cup it came in was so tiny. I could have used about 3 of these.

We walked over to Japan because I had my eye set on two dishes there, the beef udon noodles and the ahi tuna poke.

Ahi Tuna Poke with Sesame Ginger Sauce

These really hit the spot. DH and I shared them. I've had the noodles before and enjoyed them as they just remind me of something my mom would make for us (we used to live in Japan for a few years when we were young). I also enjoyed the Ahi tuna as it was very light and the tuna was fresh. Not the best poke I've had by far but when you're outside of Hawaii, you can't be too picky. The sesame ginger sauce tastes a little like the salad dressings which you get at Japanese restaurants. It complemented the fish well but the portion was small as half it it was a salad mix.

We also hit up the kiosk selling frozen Kirin beer because it was always on my list to try it. I've never had frozen beer and it just seemed interesting. Here it is:

I thought it was just ok, there wasn't anything too frozen about it except for the "head" part, which is mainly foam. So the top foam was a little frosty and it melted into the rest of the beer and then just became...beer. It wasn't anything special and I'm not a huge beer drinker so I got this mainly for the novelty and to say I've had frozen beer. Haha. :drinking1

Then we hit up USA so I could try the much talked about Beef Brisket Burnt Ends Hash

Beef Brisket Burnt Ends Hash with White Cheddar Fondue and Pickled Jalapeños

I was fully expecting NOT to like this as the term "burnt ends" doesn't sound to appetizing but as you can see from the picture above that what I got was more juicy and more like a pot roast than a burnt end. It was extremely flavorful and was sitting atop some potato hash, drizzled with creamy cheese, and topped with picked jalapenos. I thought it was very tasty! It was also piping hot which is how I like my food. :thumbsup2

@ariane37 I know this did not impress you but I think the one I got looked better than the one you got.

DH also got the pork ribs:

Smoked Pork Ribs with Black Bean and Corn Salad

There were 2 ribs but he ate one already when I took the picture (men!! don't they realize we need pictures for TRs?!?) :rotfl:
This tasted better than it looked. The corn salad looked...questionable. I don't know about that whole hodge podge with the beans and corn, but honestly I had a bite and thought it was not bad, definitely not as good as the burnt ends though! I didn't have the ribs but DH thought they were pretty good, although not as fall off the bone as he'd like.

We stopped in Italy to get some PP pics.
I am wearing another SW outfit, my homage to the most underrated character with the most un-PC name in the Star Wars universe: Jek Tono Porkins.

"Cover me Porkins!!"

We made it to Germany and I had to get what is easily my favorite dish, the Currywurst with paprika chips. I had this last year and loved it!
Although this year it seems there wasn't enough sear on the bratwurst. Still tasted delicious though.

Finally full, we decided to take the water launch back to Future world, from what I remember, there wasn't much of a wait at all. We headed to Soarin' and asked to wait for the middle section as when on this ride, I think it's key to get the best seat in the house for maximum enjoyment! We were on the ride with some newbies in the same top row as us. They were so funny, they were commenting throughout the ride as if was the best ride they have ever been on!

"OMG! We're flying!"
"Did you smell that? What is that? Jasmine?"
(I told them roses)
"Oh that's it!"
"This is amazing!"
"Let's go on it again!"

Soarin' doesn't quite reach Peoplemover status for me, but I do love it' too and I really enjoyed their enthusiasm. :cloud9:

We had a few minutes before we had to check in for the next Epcot bus so I went to get a picture with Baymax while DH waited on line for Joy and Sadness.

Unfortunately, Joy and Sadness took a break and I thought we should start heading over to the bus so DH got out of line.
Hopefully we get to meet them later in the trip!

We checked in and waited for the next bus to DHS, and really, we were there in no time!

I had some time to refill my popcorn bucket and we went to find a spot for the fireworks. It was crowded but not the most crowded I've seen at DHS. Mostly Star Wars fans, who are the best fans to be around, right?

Why is Porkins not part of this montage?

There was no other way to end Star Wars Day than Star Wars Fireworks!

Since the park was now closed we headed out to the ferry. I think we had to take the 2nd boat. When we got to the Boardwalk, we saw they had movie night on the lawn. I was expecting it to be some big screen like they have at other resorts, but I think my TV is bigger than their screen. Haha.

They were playing The Force Awakens. Of course. :)

But the Boardwalk is just magical at night, don't you think? It's usually really hoppin' at night but tonight was quiet.

It was a lovely ending to a great May the 4th!! But was it my Best Day Ever? A lot of you may be thinking it was. But it wasn't. What? Star Wars Day wasn't Best Day Ever? Blasphemy. It was an EXTREMELY GOOD day, don't get be wrong (and it didn't rain!), but there was another day even better, at least for me.

Stay tuned...for breakfast at Cape May Cafe!

As we headed into World Showcase, I decided I really wanted something refreshing so stopped by Florida Fresh and got a fresh Watermelon Juice. It was really good, but the cup it came in was so tiny. I could have used about 3 of these.

That looks sooooo good!

:thumbsup2

Yours look really good. Not burnt looking, and I can see there's meat there.

I don't think Josh ate the veggies in any of his plates :rotfl: So I'm pretty sure he ate the ribs and then declared it done without eating the corn salad.

We were on the ride with some newbies in the same top row as us.
I love riding Soarin' with newbies!!!

We checked in and waited for the next bus to DHS, and really, we were there in no time!
So excited to try this in August! It must cut down the transport times SO much.

Mostly Star Wars fans, who are the best fans to be around, right?
Yep! ::yes::

There was no other way to end Star Wars Day than Star Wars Fireworks!
Of course! :thumbsup2

When we got to the Boardwalk, we saw they had movie night on the lawn.
Cool!

but there was another day even better, at least for me.
What?! Ooooh, the suspense!!! :rotfl:

All your F&G food and drink choices look so tasty!! I wish we'd tried the watermelon juice. I love watermelon, and Nathan hates it. :P But such tiny cups!

We also got a popcorn bucket on our last trip because some stranger in line talked us into it haha ...you better believe it's coming back with us in August!

Since the park was now closed we headed out to the ferry. I think we had to take the 2nd boat. When we got to the Boardwalk, we saw they had movie night on the lawn. I was expecting it to be some big screen like they have at other resorts, but I think my TV is bigger than their screen. Haha.

This is hilarious! It's like they just moved a livingroom movie night outside...
