August 2017 Disneyland Check-In & Chat!

I am so disappointed. After moving this trip twice we are now officially cancelling. My husband was unexpectedly laid off Wednesday so we can't justify taking a vacation right now. I'm hopeful he will have a new job within a month but since we don't know what the future holds we have to let this one go.:worried:

What that does mean is I will be cancelling a Fantasmic! dining package for a party of 5 at River Belle Terrace August 15th at 4:40. And one for a party of 2 same day and time if anyone would like to try to coordinate picking those up.
I'm so sorry that happened...both the job and the cancelled vacation. Hopefully he'll find a great new job soon and you'll be busy planning a new vacation.

Oh my, so sorry to hear this! That's tough.

So thoughtful of you to post about your F! package. Hope you get to go next year ...

So, a little over 2 weeks to go and I did up my Von's order today. I managed to get a new account using my work email and I was able to use a code for free delivery and $20 off and as an added bonus, they finally had the instant cold packs back in stock so I got a couple of those for my back as well.

Not sure if it will still work but if you sign up for a new account, try the code TWENTYOFF and see! :)

Just a heads up, if any of you late August folks are looking to book a Blue Bayou Fantasmic package on August 25th, I just cancelled a reservation for 2 at 6 PM! We decided to take advantage of the 40% Disneyland Hotel offer I got for one night as a special treat, and our tight budget doesn't allow for both the dining package & the hotel night stay for my birthday, so we decided to do just the hotel this time.

Guess I'm really late to this party! I'm new to this forum but a longtime Disneyland lover. I've been going since age 3 when my parents first took me. My DH and I will be going 8/27-28 and this is our first trip together since our wedding in March. Still undecided on MP but we might skip it since there's only two of us and we can run around the parks pretty quickly. Can't wait!!!

It's very quiet over here....a lot of you are probably either away now or have gone. Please report back and let us know how your trip was!

We are 1 week and 5 days away. Yah! After much deliberation, we decided to go for the WOC dessert party. I just couldn't figure out where would be the best FP spot and didn't like the stress. And the dining package still meant lining up early. Quite excited for it as are our kids. Also have RBT dining package booked for Fantasmic. We love shows so seems like good ways to see them.

nedgehogdelemma, congrats on your recent marriage. What a great first trip! We're not planning on using MP either.

Just back from our five day trip. It was really wonderful and exhausting, as all good trips to Disneyland are! I will write more later, but if anyone has any questions I might be able to help with, let me know, and I'll do my best to answer with my experiences. We saw Fantasmic and WOC with regular FP, saw MSEP and fireworks twice.

Great to hear. Where did you sit with WOC (and how early did you line up)? I was struggling to figure out the best spot. I think I saw on another thread you stayed at DI&S? We are staying there...nice and close and get an extra room.

Yes, DI&S was very basic, but it was clean and roomy and close, and that's all we need. It's funny because when I first walked into the room I was a little surprised at how banged up the furniture looked...but really, I would trade more space for scuffed furniture, and that's really the case here. I think you'll like it!
So for WOC we have all seen it before, and we are all pretty tall. We showed up 15 minutes before it started and stood in the back of the yellow section fairly near the actual entry into the yellow section, but then moved to the left a little bit. We were able to see fine...nobody put their kids on their shoulder in front of us. It is all standing for WOC unless you have the special desert seating. We came so late because we had seen it before, and we were okay if we didn't get good spots or even if we missed seeing most of it well. I'm not sure I would recommend showing up so late to someone who had never seen it before and really wanted a good spot! We are tall, and it just worked out for us this time.
Are you planning to see Fantasmic?

Thanks for the feedback. From pictures, the DI&S sheets and stuff looks quite ugly , but like you comment, the room (and proximity) seems worth the trade off. We won't be spending much time in the room.

That's great that you were able to show up just 15 minutes before WOC...definitely helps if you are all tall. And very good that no one had kids on their shoulders since you often hear that. We're going to try the dessert party as it's our first time and found it confusing of where to even "try to" stand...and even blue vs yellow.

Yes we're seeing Fantasmic via RBT dining package (followed by fireworks). We saw it at WDW and quite liked it. Have heard mixed reviews though of the DL returned version. Did you enjoy? And how was MSEP? It'll be gone when we come but great you had 3 night time shows.

Can you share your experience with getting the FP tickets , timing and location you ended up in? Lots of info out there about the packages - not much for people who just want to do the FP's. Difference between the WOC locations would be good as well.

Thanks.

I would be happy to. This is something that Disneyland needs to work on. Our first day was Sunday the 6th, we were let into the park before 8am, and held back by the ropes, so we waited by the frontierland entrance, because that was the straightest shot back to the fast pass distribution area. At rope drop a CM walked everyone that wanted a FP for F! back to the distribution area, and people lined up and got their FP very orderly and quickly. The FP said to return to the boat dock area at 8:00 for the 9:00 show. I'm not sure what time the FP ran out, but I know a couple hours later they were gone. Around 6ish or so we saw the CM setting up ropes for the evening show. I asked a couple of different CM about what time we should really show up, and got some slightly different answers, but one CM said 7:15 to 7:30 is when people start to show up, and if you are one of the first in you get sitting spots for the show, the rest of the spots are standing. So at 7:15 we showed up at the boat dock area, but they were not letting people into the actual waiting area yet. There were people waiting in a line outside of the dock area but against it, out of the way of the walkway, if that makes sense. I asked the CM that was obviously in charge where we should be going to stand. He said that he had been telling the people in that line every five minutes that it wasn't an official line, and they weren't going to get in first just because they were waiting there. He said there wasn't a line, that we should just come back later, like at 8:00, and it would open when he got word that it was time to start letting people in. Really. Nobody seemed to leave. So people just hung around the front of dock area waiting, more in the way than the people waiting in the line, who still seemed to want to take their chances in that line. So a little after 7:30 the CM just starts letting us in the dock waiting area, all the people milling about in the way get in first, and the people waiting in line get in after them. The people who show up at 8:00 like he was saying to, and like it says on the ticket, would have had a terrible spot. They held us in the dock waiting area all squished together until 8:00, then they let us into the viewing area. My family was able to get great seated viewing spots right in the front near the railing. But that was showing up at 7:15 for the 9:00 show and listening to the CM...when he seemed annoyed people were lining up we made sure we didn't line up. Which made no sense. But I wasn't running the show.

Sorry if that's sort of confusing...it was a little crazy!! Ask me if you want me to clarify something.

WOC I mentioned in a post above...we did yellow, came late, lucked out and saw it well. It wasn't a priority for us this trip. Luckily we are tall!

Unfortunately that is the case for both shows. Fantasmic is a bigger offender at the moment because it was down so long. Even people with dining packages start lining up around 7-7:30p even though the tickets and CM's say differently. CM's are told to stick by the 8pm rule when asked by guests, which explains why you got different answers, but there will always be people waiting around aiming to be the first ones let in.

At least with WOC they have a system where you line up. This just seemed unorganized, with people milling about in the walkways. I just hope they come up with a more organized way for people to line up.

My dates changed too. I will be there 8/26 and 8/27, staying at the Marriott and doing the CHOC Walk. :)

Aww!! We will be there!! Congrats! Are you doing the vows at Disney? We are celebrating our 25th while there, we'll look for you guys!! On Wednesday, we'll have all black shirts on with different white Disney sayings in white...3 tall kids and me an Dad :)
Sorry for the late reply. Yes we did have a ceremony at the DLH in the Adventure Gazebo on Aug 2. I did not see a set of parents and kids in black T-shirts with Disney sayings on them. But, did see many coordinated family groups with matching clothes. Sorry that we missed you. The vows were short (10:00-10:30 AM) with a reception and dance until 2:00 in the Mark Twain room. Then we went to the park and had the Desert Package at WOC that evening. Anyone that attended from family and friends had everything covered that day. It was a great week at the Happiest Place on Earth!

Hi everyone! I just thought I'd update! The surprise worked out GREAT! No clue until we showed up at the DLH parking lot and even then we told them, but we could have let it go for a little longer. We walked in, and goofy greeted us! Immediately, DS asked about Mickey. They said it was the best surprise ever and were perfectly happy that I surprised them and they didn't plan. We had a short short visit, and they kids were running on fumes. I took DS8 on space mountain for the first time, and he loved it. When we left we saw Chip, Dale, Pluto and Goofy again in the lobby! Kids danced with goofy at the pool as well. It was just what we needed.

The plan is to head to WDW in April for a longer trip. We might be in Southern California next August though so we need to see. We just got home from California last night. (also hit up Seqoia and Santa Barbara). My youngest had an anaphylactic reaction our last day in California but otherwise the whole trip was a blast. Have fun everyone else who still has their trip in the future!

I honestly just crashed in bed after a 6 hour flight home from CA but I'm glad to check in and read that people have had great trips so far! Ours is no exception - sprinkled with pixie dust let me tell you!! Once I get some pictures edited I'll start a trip report and link it to share with you guys!
