Debt Dumpers - 2017

Hate days like that. Hope it gets better.

Thankfully, the septic alarm stopped going off before I left the house for work. We had heavy rain last night so I think that might have been the problem. We can definitely hear it running, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the pump or anything.

Not sure what happened with the dog. It's not a bad limp, but he's spoiled rotten so I worry about him.

I've been paying twice on my mortgage every month so that I can start using the mortgage money soon to start paying off other bills. I know, I know, I'm not doing anything to help against the principal when I do that, but I just want to be way ahead in case there's an emergency. Now I'm about to start taking the mortgage payment and putting it on my car payment (which is also about a year ahead). Hopefully I will be done with car payments in the next year (it was originally going to be done in 2021!)

In depressing but money-saving news, I attempted to buy tickets to see my favorite band this morning and failed. They were $80 each but DH and I both really wanted to see them again, so I was waiting online at exactly 10:00 am to buy them. They sold out IN UNDER A MINUTE.

There are some available for resale, but of course they're already jacked up to $120/ticket. We're going to wait and see if either more tickets hit the market, or if they release more tour dates. Hopefully they do, as the last time we were going to see them they had to cancel the remainder of their tour the morning of our show. Seems like I'm not meant to see them, but they're so good!

In other news, it's been a pretty light spend week around my house other than bills. I am going to treat myself to some Starbucks this afternoon so I'm not falling asleep during my hour and a half training session at 3:00 on a Friday afternoon :faint: I'm also going to take my niece to see Wonder Woman tomorrow since it's still playing in one theater in our town. I'll pay full price for the tickets, but it's worth it to take my now high school-aged niece to see a female empowering movie :thumbsup2

A lot of concert venues hold back a bulk number of tickets for various reasons (artists guests, etc.). They usually start releasing those seats in the week leading up to the show. I was able to get a 2nd row ticket for an almost sold out show last month by waiting until the week of the show.

Sitting here at the garage sale. It has been a pretty decent day so far. Hoping tomorrow is even better. But regardless, this money will be very helpful. Very pleased that my parents were willing to help with this.

And we made just over $600 from day 1 of the garage sale. :) Still lots of stuff left, so hopefully tomorrow will also be a good day.
I hope tomorrow goes well too! I miss garage sales... we used to have them about every other year or so, and we went to them all the time. Where I am now doesn't have garage sales like I grew up with, so I don't even stop anymore.

Hello fellow debt dumpers! I feel like I pop into this thread every few months or so with an update & to see what's going on with everyone else.

We've gone a little "off the rails" this summer with our spending. Not to the point of accumulating more CC debt, but I am definitely floating some money because we use CC's to pay for nearly everything. Thanks to YNAB we have "old money" so I'm still able to pay the CC's in full every month even though we're in the hole in some of our categories. I'm keeping a close eye on all of the accounts and being extra careful with our spending for now, then once we get back from Disney I'm going to buckle down and really work on selling a lot of things I've been meaning to sell for a while to bring in some extra cash. My wife will also be looking for a part-time work from home job, since both kids will now be in school from 8:00-2:20. So I feel like we have a plan and we're still doing alright.

However, one of the reasons we are a bit in the hole on our budget is that we unexpectedly adopted a turtle! A friend found a red-eared slider turtle abandoned (in a small tank) in the laundry room of her apartment building. His previous owner had just left him down there with a sign taped to the wall above him that said "Anyone want a free turtle?" :( She couldn't keep him herself and posted on Facebook asking if anyone could take him. I've wanted a turtle since I was a kid so I jumped at the chance to rescue the poor little guy. We had a 20-gal fish tank that we weren't using, which has been his temporary home, but it's not really big enough for him (even though it's twice the size of the tank he was left in) and definitely won't be big enough when he's fully grown. So I've spent about $800 getting everything we need to set up his permanent home. Thankfully we scored a 75-gal tank & iron stand off of craigslist for $150, or that total would be a lot higher. He's such a fun pet though, we are all really happy to have adopted him.

We also leave for DisneyWorld 2 weeks from tomorrow! Yippee!! Pretty much everything is already paid for, the only thing I will end up charging while we're there is whatever food is not covered by the GC's I have. We're planning to eat mostly QS and order waters, snacks, & breakfast foods for the room, so hopefully I can keep that spending low. We find we don't eat a lot at Disney in the summer, because its so hot and we're drinking so much water, we just aren't that hungry. And my kids eat like birds anyway.

That's about it around here.

And we made just over $600 from day 1 of the garage sale. :) Still lots of stuff left, so hopefully tomorrow will also be a good day.

How did day 2 go?

We just sold our old car for $800 cash! We were going to take it to a wrecker but MIL put it up on their local Facebook group this morning and its gone! Had said there was an oil leak but we didn't know where or how bad but I guess if you are someone who knows things about cars, pulling it apart to find out where isn't as daunting!

Will give ILS $300 for their new kitchen fund and take $500 home (which will cover half the rego expenses we have for our other car, due next week!)

Day two was not quite as busy, which surprised me a little because it was a weekend day but it was also beautiful out so maybe people wanted to do more family stuff. Still made almost $400 on day 2, so ended up with $993 total. I will take $50 out for gas expenses to get back and forth from Michigan to Illinois. The rest goes towards paying my car loan and the car maintenance fund. Overall very worth it and it was awesome to hang out with my dad all weekend. I haven't had time just him and me in years.

We leave for WDW in 4 days!!!! We're at the Grand Floridian for 8 nights and enjoying Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party on August 25th. I'll keep a running tally of our expenses but planning to enjoy ourselves since we won't be travelling far until next year. I'll update everyone when we return.

I just read through it. I'm curious to see your review of your ADR's. Especially Boma. Also thanks for the reminder about Flame Tree. I always forget that option in AK. We usually do AK as a one day park, but with the Avatar stuff, I wasn't able to get both NRJ and FOP on the same day so we're doing 2 days AK, 2 days MK, 2 days EP and 1 day HS.

Since I won't get to Boma for a while in my TR, I'll go ahead and tell you now how much we love it! This was our second time, we made a special trip to eat breakfast there after eating there the first day of our honeymoon. I usually don't put too much stock in buffets, but I really think Boma is excellent. Plus you're surrounded by the beautiful scenery of AKL. We haven't tried dinner, but I've heard great reviews for that too. The only downfall this visit was we didn't have great service. I know there isn't much service to be had at a buffet anyways, but this was like hunt someone down to find our check. They did give me a nice birthday cupcake though, so I appreciated that.

I can't wait to hear what you think of FOP. I personally thought it was INCREDIBLE. We liked it so much we waited an hour after doing it with FP to ride it again.

Now you are making me want to make a Boma ressie for breakfast....you budget buster you..lol. I'm looking forward to reporting back, although I won't be doing a TR. Boma breakfast or dinner? Which is better?

I think it depends on the food experience you want. From what I've heard, the dinner offers more African-themed selections. The breakfast does have several, but you can still get the traditional Mickey waffles and sausage, and there's a carving station with ham and turkey. I don't think you can go wrong though!

So I didn't get Boma, but I did get an Ohana dinner reservation that I had been stalking for weeks. I also get to try Chef Art's Homecoming at Disney Springs. I heard it's awesome. Other ADR's are Via Napoli, Sci Fi, Narcoossees and California Grill.

Great choices! We've eaten at Sci Fi and California Grill. We lovedddd California Grill when we ate there on our honeymoon. Fantastic food. Sci Fi was fun- it's obviously more about the theming than the food, but our food was good as well. I've heard great reviews of everything else and have heard numerous people say Ohana is the favorite meal. I wanted to try that on our recent trip, but they only time they had available on short notice was at 9:00 p.m. and I didn't want to miss Happily Ever After.

We did Ohana in 2015 and enjoyed it immensely. They had to ROLL me out of the place..lol. I couldn't even finish the bread pudding which is the icing on top of the meal. I looked at Boma breakfast buffet and it's quite reasonable by Disney standards..lol I will stalk it and hopefully get a same day reservation.
