Disney's Club Level (CL) Information & Questions

We had a wonderful stay going back to AKL! Reinforces why this is our favorite resort. Despite my dislike of split stays (I don’t care for the mid stay unpack) I’ve changed our end of summer stay from all BC to an AKL/BC split. Can’t wait to go back. We enjoy down time at the resorts and AKL is perfect with the serenity, mix of activities, relaxing pool and plenty of food options. Jiko is a fave and we ate there multiple times, tried Sanaa but did not care for it.

We flew in late and spent the first night in a standard. Ended up with a partial savannah view on the 2nd floor, near the lobby on the Kudu trail. I was worried there would be noise due to the location, but it was really quiet and we loved being so close to the lobby. I also think the view was better than our savannah view from the 4th floor. Our 4th floor room overlooked Arusha rock. That’s my least favorite location as it’s noisy from all the people and music, not private and does not have a clear view of the savannah.

We had a bit of a hiccup with the room change when bell services misplaced our luggage. When I went to claim our bags after a day in the park, bell services goes to get our bags from the back and comes back saying the bags had been delivered to the new room. Up I go to the room, no bags, call down to bell services, who says the bags aren’t there. I go down to bell services, they look again, still no bags and they are now wondering if they delivered them to the old room. What?! I don’t understand any of this delivering to the room nonsense as bags are not supposed to be delivered to the rooms when there are room changes. They let me back into the bag area and I walked the aisles and found our bags. They had been misfiled!

Now onto the good. I was up early and got us squared away with our CL check-in before the rest of the family even woke up. Megan was one of the best CMs we’ve encountered and hands down it was the friendliest check-in. She was engaging and funny. Check-in came with a welcome gift, welcome letter and they offered a welcome drink. Hello mimosa! I enjoyed those every morning which made for a great start to the days. There were several CMs working the lounge that were great throughout the trip. I know AKL CL sometimes gets a bad rap for lackluster CMs (which I’ve experienced first hand), but not this time. I give them 5 stars. Never had issues with getting drinks. Sadly no dark beers, so I stuck with champagne, DH had his Tusker and the kids loved Nesquik. I’m not the most adventurous eater so didn’t have much of the hot specialty offerings. DH and one kid did like them. I was content with the cheeses, spreads and kid friendly options (shout out to you mrsap). We did get turn down nightly without requesting.

I expected the parks to be crowded and they were. Navigated walking through the parks okay, but usually quick walk on rides had really long waits (40 minutes single rider for Everest, packed lines for Living with the Land) so we didn’t do much more than our FPs. We did walk into the Indy show at DHS. We haven’t seen that in years and it was neat to experience something different.

Highlight of the trip was the Wild Animal Trek. The guides were terrific. The experience was 3 hours and it was the perfect getaway from the crowds. Leisurely, private, and spectacular views of the animals. We’ll definitely do this one again.

Merry Christmas!

Edited to add my observation of dogs. We did see quite a few. Maybe 7, with most of them being in the Epcot area. The couple of others in MK.

I’d also like to thank you for your report. I just booked 6 nights at AKL CL on a whim (our first deluxe stay) and was downhearted when I started reading the recent reviews. Your review perked me back up! So thanks for that.

Would you mind answering some questions?
Did you have to ask for champagne or was it on display?
Was there hot chocolate?
Did you receive a robe and slippers?
Did turn down service come with chocolates?
What was the welcome gift?

I’m trying to keep my expectations realistic so thank you for answering what you can. :)

Merry Christmas! :santa:

Totally get it. These boards, while informative and fun, can sway the vibe. From built up expectations, to worry of a bad stay. Last summer a bunch of people were down on BC that I tried to change my reservation. Very glad there was no availability for a change as our BC experience was great.

The welcome gift is a bag of homemade trail mix. Yummy. It came in a cute little burlap sack.

Turn down did come with chocolates, but there were no robes or slippers. I didn’t even remember that other CLs had them until your post.

There is a hot chocolate/cappuccino machine in the lounge. One kid made hot chocolates (although thought they were too frothy) and the other loved making lattes.

Champagne, although technically I should have said sparkling wine since it was Graham Beck and not from France, was by request. A surprise to me was beer was by request at all hours and not in the fridge during the normal 5pm service. The other special drinks they had were sangria and some other mimosa, the jungle juice with a red bubbly. All by request. At no time was it awkward to ask and the CMs were great with refills. Red/white wine (Indaba) was out during the 5pm service and cordials were out during the dessert service. No Baileys though.

One other thing that was nice was this screen by the fridge that had rotating slides of what the food and beverage offerings were for the week for each service. It was nice to have a preview of what was coming.

CMs didn’t have any issues with putting drinks in to go cups or taking food back to the room.

Lastly, I much prefer stairs over waiting for an elevator to just go two flights, so while it made the walk longer, we did use the staircase a lot at the back of the lounge quite a bit.

All excellent! Thank you so much for answering. Your description of everything has me excited for our stay. I’m so glad I booked CL. Tomorrow I’ll call back DSS to go over room requests. Any advice for a good room location?

We were in the first block of rooms off the Zebra trail. I really didn’t care for our room view which essentially was the back side of Arusha rock. Not only did we not have a good view of the Savannah, there are people constantly out at that rock that you see and hear, and can see you. This is not a sit on your balcony and chill in the tranquility location. It is however one of the closest rooms to the lounge. Personally I prefer the rooms further down the Zebra trail for the better and quieter views. They are a full on hike to the lounge though.

Good to know. Thank you so much for your insight. I’m sorry you had a poor savanna view. I’m thinking of just requesting Kudu trail. According to the maps, Arusha Rock juts out more on the Zebra side than Kudu side. I know it’ll put me further away from the Mara/pool, but I don’t mind that. A great savanna view is more important.

Thanks again!

Good morning. Today we check out of CR and head to Port Orleans. I like the tranquility of POR so we decided to do that last. We arrived Thursday to check into our standard view Atrium Club level but to my surprise we were escorted to the 14th floor. As we checked in even the cast member gave a surprised look while looking at our reservation. Kathy from the club level was there to greet us. Her and Maureen informed us that we were upgraded to not only a suite but the Presidential Suite. I cried. Lol. The room was huge. Club level rocked. I set the bar high for my kids to have that experience but then Disney hit me with that extra dose of pixie dust. My first club level experience was amazing from start to finish.

Glad you had a great time and congrats on the amazing upgrade! :wizard:

We check into Poly CL on Monday

Hope you're having a great time and enjoying Poly CL :goodvibes.

SO excited!!! We arrive at POLY tomorrow for our club level stay

Hope you're having a great time :).

Thanks for your review. Sorry about the luggage mix up, but glad you had another great stay at AKL CL. Enjoy planning your return back in the summer :wizard:.

Is it a faux pas to refill refillable water bottles (Hydro Flasks) with the water that is out in CL?

Probably happens all the time, but I think it is. I have seen people try to fill them and if a CM notices, they’ll offer to fill them up from the source in the back (I’m thinking Poly specifically here, not sure if I’ve witnessed it at others). I am not sure if that’s for germ reasons (spigot possibly touching your water bottle) or simply they don’t want you to drain the whole container of water, creating more work for them. ;-)

In my experience the Poly CMs have been more than happy to fill containers in the back. I can’t vouch for other CLs as I haven’t personally witnessed it there.

Hope that helps!

Is bottled water available still in club level? We will be staying CL in GF Sugarloaf building.

It is at some, but not all, CLs. Unless it has changed very recently, GF SL does have small Dasani bottles out all day, and if it’s not out, then available upon request.

I just wanted to try to put you at ease as well. I've been lucky enough to have stayed at AKL CL 3 times, with a 4th booked for November 2018. I've never had a bad experience with the food, the CMs, the service...nothing that had to do with Disney. I did find that some of the guests gave off a sense of entitlement, but I've also noticed that more and more throughout the entire Disney resort area, so take that with a grain of salt. ;) We've even become friendly with one of the CL CMs and stopped by AKL on our last vacation (we were booked at the POLY) just to see if she was working. As luck would have it, she was, and even though we had just wanted to say hello and give her a hug, she invited us up to the lounge for some refreshments while we chatted for a bit. I've never experienced that level of service anywhere else, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with your visit. They really do try to make you feel at home.

Hello all! We're back after spending 4 days at the CR Atrium Club Level and I'm going to post a quick review:

1. We arrived and checked-in at front desk on first floor at around 11:00 a.m. and was told room wasn't ready and did we want to go up and see the club anyway. DH said yes, so we were taken upstairs by Amber and showed around. They had homemade potato chips out as well as cookies and it looked pretty nice and clean, and we got to talking with Sarah for a few minutes before we had to head downstairs and get going to the park.

2. As the days went on, we thought all the club level cast members were very sweet and helpful. There's one though: David, who has the character voices nailed down and was very sociable, and we all really liked him.

2. We got our room ready text around 3:00. We requested room 4847 and got room 4846. The view of the castle and Space were incredible! Room was very comfortable, mousekeeping was great and we had turn-down service nightly with chocolates left on the bed. We also got a welcome box of chocolate (3 truffles and one larger piece with a pic of the Contemporary on it) which daughter just loved. After going to the Poly this past September, while I loved the closeness of MK, everytime I looked out the window either in the club lounge or room, I kept seeing the parking lot first and really missed the more tropical relaxing feel that I had at the Poly.

3. We ordered a Moana cake from Brian in private dining for daughter's birthday and it was delivered very promptly at 9:00 a.m. as promised and was delicious! Cake was bigger than we thought, so we cut it up shared with the club CMs. We would've shared with those on the first floor too, but blue frosting/blue cake was getting everywhere and I'm fairly certain it was more appreciative not to share with the first floor than to share.

4. A few downsides I would say is the set-up of the club lounge and the food offerings is a bit underwhelming and in that regard, I much preferred the Poly. For example the cereals and milk were in odd containers and carafes that made it difficult for daughter to get her own bowl of cereal and milk. You had to ask for the beer, none was left in refrigerator even during lunch/snack/evening hours. Don't get me wrong, there was always a CM not far away to ask for one, but if you wanted to just go to the lounge and grab one, you couldn't, and same for the beer bottle opener.

Another downside was the wait for elevators. I understand being there over Christmas there are tons of people coming/going, but we waited about half an hour for an elevator and after waiting for people to get out, the door was pretty fast to close and no one inside the elevator was helpful in holding the door and just letting it close and a few times people just pushed their way past us to get on before the doors closed. Once we finally got on an elevator we encountered a lady in the elevator near tears because she said she waited 45 minutes for an elevator and was told she had to catch the Magical Express bus 5 hours prior to her flight. 4 hours seemed excessive, 5 hours I probably would've been near tears myself.

One final downside and this is probably more on the Magical Express side than anything, but the Contemporary when arriving from the airport is always the last stop; and going home its always the first pick-up. In the grand scheme of things the hour we lost wasn't that big of a deal, but its just something that always annoyed me. And 4 hours is just wayyy too long to be at the airport and I really hope they go back to no more than 3 hours prior or we'll likely be taking Uber or Lyft to the airport from now on. Speaking of Lyft, there were TONS of minnie vans all over the place. Buses were very slow but if you wanted a minnie van, there was no shortage of them. I wondered to myself if they're cutting back on bus service to encourage more people to use the minnie vans.

6. On our day before last we had some time to kill so decided to head over to the Boardwalk as we've been contemplating a stay there and wanted to see for ourselves what the room and surrounding area looked like. The clown pool/slide seemed smaller as did the boardwalk itself from videos I've seen. Maybe once all 'comes to life' at night it looks and feels different, but I'm still on the fence on whether we're going to split stay Boardwalk/Poly or go all Poly again for our November 2018 trip. A very nice CM from the Boardwalk arranged for a runner to show us a standard garden view room and it was ok -- but the club lounge and walk to/from the elevators was just really odd to me. Long hallways, followed by a door that you have to 'key into', then more long hallways then the club lounge where they apparently close the doors when closed for the night and you can't access the lounge for drinks until they re-open, which is much different than the openness of both the Contemporary and Poly lounges. Another downside was it seems to share buses with Swan and Dolphin which makes me think during busier times, buses are packed.

So that's my take of our Christmas trip. While it was fun and daughter handled it very well considering the high crowds, I think we're one and done during the Christmas Holidays for awhile and will anxiously await November 2018 for our next trip. Happy Holidays and New Years to all! :)

I'm so exited about our upcoming stay at the WL. Meghan, from the Old Faithful Club just tried contacting us with a phone call- but phone wasn't working! uggghh. Just checked email and she reached out to us that way. She asked if we had any special requests and when we expected to arrive next week. These boards have me really looking forward to our stay there! Thank you for all your helpful information and great photos!!

Totally helps! Hadn't considered asking a CM for assistance with it-so thanks for your kind answer. :)

I'm glad to hear you had a nice time and I know what you mean about the Poly. After staying at the Poly, nothing has felt as relaxing and I love the tropical laid back vibe. It is now my favorite with BC a close second.
I know you are thinking about the BWI. This one is my husband's favorite so we have chosen a split stay between BWI and Poly for next summer. My kids also really like the BWI especially at night with the entertainment and music and my 9 year old says this pool is his favorite. Plus walking right into Epcot is awesome! I agree about the CL lounge and how far it is to get to, but it was awesome the one time we did it.
Happy planning for your November trip!

No problem. :-)

BTW, I meant to say above that I 'think' it's a faux pas, not that I personally think it is. I admit I have filled my own personal wide-mouth container from the Poly lounge water before...hence why I know the CMs will ask to do it if they see you! :rotfl:
