I love credit cards so much!

I can't reschedule. I applied for the delta gold biz and I think I was approved. Bit confusing. Said I'd have my card in 2-3 biz days.

Used a dischurners link, of course!

Wow, was this card even on your radar?

Alright, so I just posted a few days ago about using our Chase UR points to book most of our trip to Hong Kong...and I am already planning the next adventure. And I want to run it passed you guys to make sure I am understanding things correctly. (My test case, should be a lot easier than some of the stuff you guys are doing, lol. Not trying to do a bunch of fancy tricks.)

Goal: DH, my Dad and I want to go to Tokyo Disneyland for a week during Nov/Dec.

I have been trying to price flights since before Christmas already, there are no deals at all for airfare to get us from Denver to Tokyo. The first option that comes up is the United N/S flight from DIA to NRT but that is $2156 per person and never seems to go on sale. Even if discounts with itineraries through the west coast, eventually come out, I would still prefer the N/S flight. United Award Saver fares are 35,000 miles each way so 70,000 per person total. Taxes & fees are $47 per ticket. I have looked at availability and even looking just 6 weeks out, for this flight there are Saver awards available @35,000. So it doesn't look like by the time we collect our bonus miles and book hopefully in August that availability would be a problem. Is this a valid expectation? (Business/FC is another story, but we are okay toughing it out in Economy).

DH has 2 Chase cards. I am AU on 2 Chase cards, Dad has 1 Chase card. (we are just babes, in this game). So no worries about 5/24.

Plan:

All three of us apply for the United Mileage Explorer Card. Current offer, expires Thursday. 50,000 pts with a $3000/3 months MSR, $95 AF waived the first year

My Dad, after he completes that MSR, he applies for the CSP (he doesn't travel/spend enough to make the CSR worth it). Current offer, I found a link that is 60,000 pts with $4000/3 months MSR but the AF is not waived, also there is 50,000 pts with same MSR but the $95 AF is waived first year.

Result:

Dad earns: 100,000 or 110,000 between the two cards, just from bonuses. So he has his 70,000.

DH and I both earn 53,000 (including original spend). Need additional 17,000 each. Currently have 31,000 UR. I am an AU on the CSR so we can transfer to either of our United accounts (correct?). I expect we can make up the 3K deficit either A. United miles from our HK trip (booked through the Chase portal, so we still get miles on United, correct?) B. Pending UR on CSR from our Disney hotel booking in HK. C. Additional spend, on either card.

So anything I have wrong or need to think about? Does the clock for the bonus points posting start as soon as you reach MSR (if we get done early) or after the 3 month period ends?

Dad doesn't want to work on MSR on both cards at the same time because he isn't confident he can reach the MSR that way (his spending is down now that my Mom is gone, but he does tend to use a CC for everything now, so he can reach the MSR one card at a time).

Thanks!

if the spend is hard for your dad you can always refer him to the United Card. You would get 10k United Points for the referal and he would get 40k but the spend is 1k less than the 50k offer. Also, if you go to the United website and act like you are going to book a flight the offer is 50k miles for 3k spend, no annual fee and a $100 statement credit.

And the $850 for new tires is now on the correct card! Thanks Mr. Tire for accommodating my request
Quick question:

1) Since SPG Biz doesn't count against personal 5/24 there isn't a reason not to add my DH as an AU, correct?
2) What is the best month to open and meet min spend the Chase SW+Biz to maximize the CP?

I am planning out my cards for the next year. Or two.
ideally, you would want to meet the spend after your Dec statement closes so that the bonus points post I n early Jan so you would have almost 2 years of CP. I made sure I hit spend by mid Dec to allow enough time for the transactions to post. I had a 1/1 and 1/4 date which I thought would be great since CP would post in early Jan. Nope, SW was resetting the points and it took until like 1/17 for the points to post. For some reason the 1/1 points took forever to post.

If your Dad doesn’t mind sharing his points, he could transfer 55K UR to his UA, book his RT for 70k, + your one way 35k = 105k.

The points will post when your statement closes, so if you meet the minimum spend the first month, you will get them when you get your statement.

:confused3. I think this is probably one of the better quarterly categories given almost an endless amount of creativity that can be used to max out the $1500...what am I missing here?
I have a new Discover card, so I can get 10% with that. We’re also only 3 people so I can’t max grocery on 1 card let alone 2. Plus I get groceries at Costco & Target in addition to Aldi

Just not that exciting. I preferred Apple Pay though admittedly quite a bit of my spend on that was Aldi.

im a little confused by what your asking. Avios is BA's points system. Yes, u should be able to use Avios for AA. As for the high tax, i would recommend searching around the city and see if theres another city you can fly into. I know places like London has some high airport tax and that gets passed onto you. Fly to another city like France, then take the train back to london would be cheaper.
I'm asking how to use the Avios.... if I see something I'm interested in on the AA site, do I call BA to use the avios? I wish I had an Iberia acct, I could really make use of them that way. I'm so confused in spite of all my reading, and I'm trying to figure out how to use these points. I can search for a different airport, but the route I saw routed with a stopover in London,I'm guessing that's the high taxes?

When Plastiq tells you it's undeliverable, does it also suggest another address format? It could be just a warning that what you entered is not their standard address format and you could still choose to proceed with that address. I've encountered the same or similar error when trying to address a new recipient (DD's preschool) and the check still delivered fine.

Another thing you could try is:

I usually put the payee (organization/person) under Recipient Name, so maybe "condo/HOA"

Street address or PO Box under Recipient Street Address, so maybe "PO BOX 123"

The Attn: in the Apt, Suite, Bldg field, so "c/o xox Bank" or "c/o xox"
Good idea with the apt/suite box. It didn't like the zip+4, I guess I could use the regular zip.
Do you ever worry about not including the statement or payment coupon?

As far as the best month for the SW cards: I'm planning on doing the same thing in Nov or Dec. Keep an eye out of what the offer is for. For example, last fall they had 40k points vs 50 K points for a while. You want to get the 50K or 60K offers to get you closer to the 110K. Like the others have said, it is very important not to finish the MSR until Jan 2019!

I don’t really think about it. I just make sure the account holder’s name and number is included in the memo line. [ETA: To be clear, I've never had a problem with a Plastiq check not applying to my account. Just give yourself a few extra days before the due date in case anything needs to be sorted out.]

Best month to open depends on how long it will take you to meet the MSR and how good the offer is at that time. My friend opened in Oct 2017 when both personal cards were at 60k for the bonus. He held off on meeting the spend until Jan 2018 but any time after the Dec statement closes, you can go ahead and complete the spend since the points should post on the next statement. But he was nervous to do that so he waited. Also, SW gave him 115 days to meet the spend, rather than the typical 90.

if the spend is hard for your dad you can always refer him to the United Card. You would get 10k United Points for the referal and he would get 40k but the spend is 1k less than the 50k offer. Also, if you go to the United website and act like you are going to book a flight the offer is 50k miles for 3k spend, no annual fee and a $100 statement credit.

Thanks for the tip about the offer being different after searching for a flight. The only concern about the spend is doing both at the same time. His spending is adequate for doing them one at a time.

DH and I applied for the United card, and were approved instantly. So I guess we are on our way, lol!

The points will post when your statement closes, so if you meet the minimum spend the first month, you will get them when you get your statement.

Thank you! Great, I want to be able to book as soon as we get the necessary points. I know the TDL Mira Costa can book quickly at the 5 month mark. So I am hoping we can have our "ducks in a row" when our booking window for that opens at the end of July/beginning to mid-August.

If your Dad doesn’t mind sharing his points, he could transfer 55K UR to his UA, book his RT for 70k, + your one way 35k = 105k.

Thanks for the idea, about one way sharing. We're hoping we can all earn what we can, so that we can start working on the next trip. My Mom was a Disney CM when she passed. My Dad was able to keep her admission privileges as a surviving spouse, so he can sign us all into the US, Paris, Shanghai and Hong Kong parks so we have a "bucket list" for him so he can do all the things he wanted to do but wasn't able to do with my Mom (cancer sucks).

Yes, from my understanding you have to book through BA to use the avios. I don't see any way to transfer them to AA. It does sound like the high taxes are because of the stopover in London, that's the one constant I've heard from everyone is to avoid routes on BA going through London because of the taxes. I think if you go through your BA account you can see all the award flights available on all the partners, I thought.
