Disney Resorts to start charging parking fees....

Ultimately this is just a price increase without raising the rack rates. And they are well in their rights to do so including a resort fee. It has just always been seen as we justify paying more to being in the bubble and these fees were included in our rack rate.

You just have to decide if it is in your budget and if you are willing to pay for the rate increase.

Universal has charged since I started going there and staying onsite

Can remember paying g $5 at
Hrh in 1998

We have been staying at Loews PBH for many years and they have always charged parking fee. I think what makes Disney’s parking fee such a big deal is the fact that room rates are unbelievably high. Deluxe resorts rates are 30-50% higher at Disney. So, when they tack on another $25-$35 for parking it just seems ridiculous.

This is my thought exactly, have a trip booked for May, then that's it. No more twice a year trips for us, we can afford it, but I refuse.

We were on the fence about going to WDW and staying onsite at the Poly. It is within our budget, but simply not worth it. The magic seems to be fizzling away with all the money grabs. We are contemplating a 10 days in Europe or trip Hawaii instead. It is actually less expensive for better accommodations.

I haven't been able to read the entire thread, so forgive me if this is buried in here somewhere...
Has anyone been able to get an answer from WDW about what happens if you book now for a trip that will take place after March 21 (so no parking fee), and then you change your reservation when (if?) discounts come out? Do we know if the reservation would be grandfathered in under the no parking fee terms, or would it be considered a new reservation booked after March 21 and subject to parking fees?
I was going to call but after being advised on this thread, I sent an email this morning to guest relations. I have not heard back. I believe no one as actually had a written response provided. Someone could gladly correct me if I'm wrong :)

FWIW, I just now saw this on one of the other parking fee threads:

Just got off the phone with a CM from Capek's office... However, I did find out if you have an existing reservation prior to 3/21 and then you later see another offer and alter your reservation, since your initial reservation was made prior to 3/21 you will not be subject to the fee.

I sent an email yesterday and so far, no response.

Well we are pretty locked into go to WDW as we are DVC members. We often would blow through our points and supplement with cash stays.

That’s over!

And we got in on the last DVC member discount AP before the price hit the roof.

We will probably just rent our points here on out and explore the world.

Actually this is on top of them raising the rack rates a couple weeks ago.

Exactly.

Of course, Disney can inflate their prices as they wish, directly and by adding extra charges, but that doesn't mean it's reasonable or proportional to the actual guest experience these days.

Their rack rate was very high anyway, so, either it already included parking charges and resort fees (which you share with far more off-site visitors than most resorts) (and I say that as someone who like to wander/shop/dine at the resorts) or the high rate is for the privilege of staying within the Disney magic. ...Except they've been diminishing that magic over recent years.

You can't disregard many aspects of guests' experiences, but keep charging as if you're still the customer-centric market leader you used to be and not have the disparity pointed out to you.

I just want them to be more ...Disney again! :smickey:

I totally agree.

I am also waiting on the loud thud when the economy takes a downturn. An overpriced luxury vacation will be the first to go from the budget.

My Son discovered that last year.
They went to Hawaii.
This year they were thinking of returning to WDW.
When I told him about the parking fees he said that they would have to reconsider the WDW trip.
Disney's greed is destroying their loyal base of customers.

We spent just under 2 weeks in Italy last Aug for not much more than what we just paid to spend 8 days at BC over President's Week. Between cheap fares (R/T to Italy was $1,550 for 4 of us), Airbnb, etc it worked out great. We're doing France, Switzerland, and Germany this summer.

I have never paid to park at a hotel in my life. Are they going to change my oil, rotate my tires or wash my car for that fee? I am frankly paying enough now!! (or more)

Really? While I don't agree the parking fees should be instituted at Disney, I've paid to park at plenty of hotels unless I'm staying in the suburbs somewhere. Universal has also been charging for a while too.

I agree with the first quote, I have never paid to park at a hotel in my life. I have stayed where there is a charge to park in Manhattan, but I wouldn't drive there anyway- I took the train. So I didn't pay to park. I stayed with family when I went to Hawaii, and they didn't charge me to park. I can't think of any other hotel I've stayed at that charged me to park. If I was driving to a place where paying a parking fee was my only option, and I felt that the overall price was worth the experience, I would pay it. However, in the last couple of days, I've found many nice off- site Disney-area hotels that do not charge a parking fee. So, at this point, paying a hotel parking fee at a Disney resort is not worth it to me.

Sounds good! Have an awesome trip this summer. :thumbsup2

Last Easter we wanted to go back to Disneyland. After checking prices I was in shock. I was like it would be cheaper to go to Disneyland Paris. And it was. The airfare was $60 more than flying from NJ to LAX than NJ to Paris.

So we flew into London and spent a couple days there and took the Eurostar to Paris. We spent a couple days in Paris and a couple days in Disneyland Paris.

We still talk about what a great trip it was. We NEVER figured we would go to Paris.

There are options and better places to explore. Eating French Macarons on the Eiffel Tower. Priceless!

so now overnight resort guests pay to park their cars, while day guests continue to park at the resorts for free?

so last august, i would have had to pay an additional $576.00 to park our rental car at SSR during our stay?

i really thought the more than $12,000 we paid to stay there for 24 days was more than enough.

perhaps disney has finally managed to reach my tipping point...

.
All we are to Di$ney is dollar $ign$ now.

I wish WDW would break down their bills like the phone and cable companies do so we can see what the actual costs are going to. With 17 multi-day visits/resort/off-site and 10-15 more single day visits to WDW, they have finally convinced me that they are not about families having fun and a Magical time, but more about their own selfish interests. I can no longer justify the trip to WDW when costs keep going up, and service keeps going down. A quick service meal for 4 costs as much as a nice sit down dinner at home.

Iger and crew have convinced me that my Disney time is pretty much over.

Until people STOP going to the parks and staying at the resorts they will feel they have it priced right.

They have no incentive to lower rates or increase the quality. They just need to hire more people to count the money.

We did this a couple of years ago and it was a great trip. Spent 3 days London and 5 days Paris with DL.
