Things that you have always wanted to do?

What are some things that you have always wanted to do, or read of others doing, that you just never had the opportunity to do? I am traveling solo for a conference June5-9. Will have plenty of time in the parks on 6/5-6/7. We have been numerous times as a family, but I have never been solo. I want to try new things, restaraunts, hidden gems, etc that I just don't get to do because we always focus on family time and the kids when we go. What would you do?

well not sure anything is really a hidden gem at disney but I would like to do a longer visit, we usually do 4 days max since we drive down. I would like to do a full week and incorporate a date night for me and my DH and enjoy a nice dinner.

It's very expensive, especially for a large group, but I have always wanted to do the Keys to the Kingdom behind the scenes tour ($116 value one day admission and then an extra $99 for the five hour tour) -- one part is to see the tunnels under the MK. Anyway, we have a large group (12) coming down for a wedding in March. It's a big enough group that I figure everyone can do their own thing and my mom and I (just the two of us from our party) are going to do it.

If interested, I think a tour like this would be a great thing to do solo. Here is the website:

The Wild Africa Trek that another poster mentioned looks cool too. It's not a thing I've always wanted to do, though like KTTK, so it would be really tough for me to justify the price. As I only do one Disney park per trip I have the $100 plus admissions vs. a lower admission per day for people who get the longer multi day tickets on top of the cost of any tour, making a tour a pricey proposition.

**************************************************************
What has kept me from doing KTTK in the past (why I see it as such a great solo option)
-- I waited till my son turned 16, so he could do it with me (he is my Orlando buddy - with me on most trips), but found he didn't really want to do the tour (was afraid it would spoil the magic). And though he would do it with me, he really likes just a regular day at the MK better, so that would mean doing two MK days on one trip (something I don't want to do).
-- DH would do it with me, but would really just prefer to skip all theme parks period. For the wedding he is just coming down the Thursday before -- family activities on Friday (nature park picnic in area) and Saturday wedding and flying home on Sunday. The rest of us will come down for a week before (Saturday till following Sunday).
-- Often I am down with a large group, so go with the flow of what the whole group does.
-- Often if I suggest things for the large group -- I pay as I am in a better financial position than most of the extended family. That, though, means I am budget conscious about what I choose, as multiple thing by six to 10 and you are talking big dollars. Something like KTTK would bust my budget.
-- Then finally I had a last minute trip last November where it would work, but alas the tours were sold out, so a little advanced planning is needed.
-- I am reserving my spot early (this September for me and my mom) and doing it in March (It's been on my list to do for about 10 years). My mom who is coming with me too, is in a good financial position and will pay her own way and would pay for me if I'd let her.
-- I also usually pick splurges that others in my immediate family would really enjoy and be interested in. This is a rare item where only I am interested.

I’ve always wanted to watch the fireworks from the train station but I’m not willing to sacrifice the time needed to make it happen.

Maybe one day when I live close by I’ll pay my dues

Look at all the tour options and see if any of those appeal to you. And loiter and people watch, just enjoy the ambiance. Do the rides YOU want to do :)
Explore all of Epcot's world showcases and see all the shows there.

I have never done Disney solo, but the following 3 things I would do again if I were to go alone are: KTTK, Africa Trek and Highway in the Sky. KTTK was very interesting, Africa Trek and Highway in the Sky were awesome!

I have never been solo, but if I did I think I would like to sit on Main Street USA and people watch. The closest I got to this was when my family went into Hall of Presidents and I stayed out to get fastpasses for Big Thunder Mountain. I found a rocking chair near the exit to HoP and waited for them to come out. I enjoyed seeing other families having fun and actually watching the CMs go about their business of making everything magical.

I think I would like to hang out in one of the countries in Epcot and enjoy an adult beverage.

I think I might actually like to read a book by the pool.

Have a great time!

Two things came to mind (both cost money though)

Keys to the Kingdom tour at MK (we are doing this in August)
Wild Africa Trek at AK (did this a couple years ago and LOVED it)

Agree with both. We haven't yet done KTTK but we fully intend to - it's just one of those things that keeps getting put off. Did the WAT a few years ago and loved it and would like to do it again. I think that they're perfect things to do solo. Just make sure to book early as they do fill up and there are limited times and slots.

A few times I've been down for a conference and went into the parks by myself. It's nice to go at your own pace and just look around and notice things you didn't see before. I literally would go in every shop, look around every corner and just find things I've never noticed before. Plus you can take advantage of single rider lines! Also, if you don't have admission to parks, go explore some of the hotels, it's pretty fun to see all the different things at the hotels.

I’ve done a couple of solo trips and have one planned for next March. I was able to go to restaurants that I can’t normally do. My husband is allergic to onions and garlic so we tended to avoid many restaurants.
I also did the Highway in the Sky tour and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Have a great trip

1. Chef's Table at Victoria and Alberts
2. Keys to the Kingdom Tour
3. Multi park hidden Mickey hunt

Last trip we rented a boat and knocked that off our bucket list. It was relaxing and a lot of fun! We plan on doing it again this summer.
