I love credit cards so much!

Good Morning,

Thank you all for providing all this great information! I did a search for a couple of questions and was unable to find the answer.

Has anyone taken advantage of the AMEX platinum 60,000 point bonus? If so, are the Loews hotels available through AMEX travel with points?

My other question is regarding Chase. Is the 24 month window from when the last bonus was received, or from when the card was cancelled?

Thank you, Rick

Welcome Rick! I don't know the answer to the Loew's hotel question. Someone here may.

But the 24 month window is from when you received the bonus.

@Lain may suggest you look around for a 100K Amex Plat bonus.

@amalone1013 We have a soda stream that we got at a yard sale (actually I think it was my sister's yard sale which would mean it was the wedding gift we gave her lol). DH uses it occasionally to make sparkling water. Too me it just seems like a lot of work when I can buy a large bottle of sparkling water at Trader Joe's for 79 cents, and that is saying a lot since I 1) make pretty much everything from scratch and 2) am cheap!

But all that being said, it does work well.
Thanks! I think I'm going to push him to try some flavored waters/drinks first... I thought about used but don't know if I can talk DH into it. I grew up buying some things used, but he really didn't so it weirds him out. I did check craigslist in our area, and the only ones coming up are month old postings and the opposite side of Denver from us. At that point I'm looking at a good 3 hours of my day in time and driving to save $25...

He really just wants something fizzy and flavored that's not loaded with sugar. I am no help because I avoid all fizz unless it is alcohol

The 60k MR (Membership Rewards) points offer on the Amex Platinum is a public offer. It's also low considering you can often pull up a 75k MR offer for the Platinum using incognito tricks, and the Platinum has a targeted offer for 100k MR. Because Amex has a once per lifetime, per product restriction for bonuses, it's in your interest to apply only when you can get the highest and best (or close enough) offer for that card product. In other words, don't apply for the Platinum with a 60k MR offer or you're precluding yourself from ever getting the 75k or 100k MR offers. If you're really interested in the Amex Platinum, let me know and I can follow up on this reply.

No idea about Loews hotels through the Amex portal. Generally, redeeming MR points for hotels through the Amex portal isn't the best value -- you're only getting something like 0.8 cents per point.

Do you have any Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR) cards and points? Redemptions for prepaid hotels may be much better through the Chase UR portal.

Which 24 month window are you asking about? The 24 months in the 5/24 rule? That's 24 months since card opening. Or the 24 months restriction on getting a bonus again for the same card product/family? That's 24 months since receiving the last bonus.

why is the new Amex announcement so dire? I don;t like last weeks notice of 'we may deny you for random reasons' but the new one seems like a good thing...wish it was in place before I got my last cc to see if I will qualify under their random rules...

Anyone here use Coupon Cabin? I think I heard about it from Doc. It’s a cash back portal, but they have these flash deals where you can claim one flash deal every 30 days. Things like $75 off a $75 purchase at Amazon etc. You have to be on at a certain time and be one of the first ones to claim the offer. I signed up back in April. I never would get the offers for Amazon, target, Best Buy. The first offer I claimed I ended up getting $50 off a $50 hotels.com purchase but I didn’t realize you had to book that night and I didn’t have any plans for it so it went unused. Well I was eligible again tonight and got $50 off a $50 purchase at Old Navy. I just ordered some clothes and hope it tracks. I’m a little worried, but I guess if it doesn’t track I can return them.

ETA they have a $50 off $50 shop Disney purchase that’s still available. I wish I got that one instead of old navy.
I have used them, but I have never been able to snag one of those deals, congrats!!

I listed my husband's income, but did specify that it was his income, not my own. I used the US address for the app, but I got a 30 day reply. I was hoping for sooner, as I am traveling to the US late next week and would really rack up the points for the upcoming travel. I guess I will try calling. Thanks for the advice.
I recall reading about people being denied credit card apps because they applied from overseas, I just can't find it right now. I'd call Chase and see what they say when you ask about the status of your credit card application. 30 days usually turns into: 7-10 days (aka denial so immediately call Chase for a recon) or 2 weeks (like 90% of the time means approval within a day or two) or approved. BUT it can take 1-3 weeks (most people have a status change within week 1). In your shoes I'd call and recon it now since you'll be in the US later this week and they will expedite the CSR.

New to this board, but been reading it for a day or two so I know you guys are the people to ask. Long story short, I applied for a CSR card last week (before I saw this board) and they said they would let me know by mail. I guess that means I was denied. The main problem for me is that I live overseas, at least I think that is the problem. All of our bills are now mailed to us through a US address though, so I don't know if that would make a difference. We have stellar credit, but I do not have my own income, as I am a stay at home wife. I guess what I want to ask is, is it even possible for a SAHM to get a CSR while living overseas, even with stellar credit and no debt?

We travel A LOT and being able to rack up mileage would be wonderful. We have an old AMEX Delta card that we purchased a few US flights with for the summer, but we really need to flexibility of a card that we can use while overseas and to purchase flights on overseas carriers. Any extra advise you guys could give me would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

i can speak on the bold point. you being overseas doesnt make any difference if you have a US address. I got a few ppl i know overseas and are still applying for cards that are shipped to their US address.
From your 2nd post, 30 days just means they havent review it yet. Like other says, call the status line and wait for a status change.

Haven't been on in forever. I think I am now over 100 pages behind. Work, work, work. Wanted to know if anyone had a support link for a Chime Card? I didn't see any posted on Reddit.

I was just thinking to myself yesterday that you hadn't been around in forever. I hear that on work. I won't be on here much next week most likely.

I hate to spend $50 on the darn thing before knowing if he'd like it. He has a tea he likes, and I guess he watched some youtube video where someone brewed a very concentrated tea and used that for the flavor with the soda stream. I'm just like, can you try making the tea and mixing it into a bottle of soda water from the store first? He says he misses the fizz when he drinks his tea.
Does your DH likes a lot of fizz? I am asking because we bought one for my husband how only drinks plain sparkling water, no flavor. He loves the fizz and we would go through the tank very often. He had to “pump” the fizz many times for his liking and we ended up stopping after a few months because it ended up way more expensive than the store bought one and the fizz would not last as long either.

Hopefully that new wording on AMEX is only effective on new apps, and not those of us who are currently working on MSR.

To jump in the Arizona discussion...we went a couple of years ago. We did not do the Grand Canyon. We started in the burbs of Phoenix, visiting my father in law, and then went to Sedona and a couple of smaller towns for a few days. Sedona, we didn't do the pink jeep, we rented a jeep for a day, and drove the trails ourselves. My husband was in heaven and talks about it still pretty much daily and is dying to do it again. That was about the only thing we did in Sedona, besides a short hike, and thought that was plenty for us. We also stayed a couple of nights in Cottonwood and did some wine tastings. There were at least 3 tasting rooms within a block of our hotel. Darling downtown, good food and lot's of good wine. We also drove to Jerome, which I adored. It's the cutest town to walk around, would actually like to go back there again. Also got kissed by a Giraffe at the Out of Africa park, weird little park, but the giraffe kiss was awesome!

We drove to Jerome too while staying in Sedona - just a neat town - loved it! Highly recommend!!

I just used Coupon Cabin for $75 off a $75 Aeropostale purchase. This was my first time snagging an offer. It shows up in my account due to be paid out to paypal sometime in August.

Still catching up on today's posts but thought I"d share my joy on an Amex offer I just used. I had the Sam's dot com spend $30 and get a $15 statement credit on my Everyday card and the Hilton Aspire card. I realized that the offer expires tomorrow, so I went to see about getting some Disney GC's as Sam's online. I didn't realize that they don't have the $50 GCs available online and my only option was the $150 for $142.98 which is a nice 7% savings, add the additional $15 off and I call that a win. I was planning to get two sets, one for each Amex offer. When I was checking out I for the first set, I realized that I could split the payment with 2 credit cards! So now I am getting $150 in Disney GCs for $112.98! 28% off is even better! I am absurdly happy about this 28% off!

Thank you! Just did this as well since I had the offer on 2 cards. 31% off iTunes, which we were getting low on! Not a SC member, so I had to pay the non-member surcharge, but even then, worked out to be ~31% off! :cool1:

@Lain Wow, great information! You answered all of my questions. Thank you.

@Lain covered your questions, but to add, because I recently got the Plat. Don't settle for the 60K offer, as said. There are avenues (nothing sketchy lol) to pull a better offer. I was able to get the 100K offer recently. I've seen the Loews hotel on the Amex Travel portal, but as said as well, not the best use of MRs, really and you could do better with the Chase CSR; however, if your goal is free travel, then the 'best' redemption is defined as free for you :)

Just want to thank everyone who responded about Arizona! You guys have given me so many great ideas! Now that it sounds like I'll definitely be getting this Barclays card once I send in my identity info, I think I'm going to really try to make this trip happen next year. As long as I can get good flights with AA (looks like it right now), then I'm going to get DH on board. I'll have my Marriott free night reward by then that I can use and maybe some more Marriott points under my belt if I can get DH a Marriott card by then.
