Looking to use DVC points for a three night stay in late July. Looking for any recommendations regarding the onsite properties. DL hotel likely out of the budget but any of the others are in play. Seen mixed reviews on all of the resorts from a number of different sites so appreciate any feedback here. Thanks!

Firstly at Disneyland Paris, they are hotels, NOT resorts. The properties are not as large nor do they have the same amenities as properties in WDW.

There are 6 onsite hotesl

Disneyland Hotel
This is the premium priced deluxe hotel. It is located at the entrance to the main park. It is Victoriana themed

Hotel New York
This would be the premium price moderate hotel. It is located after Disney Village and is the nearest to Disney Village. It is themed as a Manhatten / New York building. It would be a 10 minute walk to the main park entrance OR you can take the free shuttle bus

Hotel Sequoia Lodge
This would be the moderate hotel. It is located after Disney Village, past Hotel New York and half way along Lake Disney. It is themed like a Californian Red Wood Forest, similar to the Grand Californian in Disneyland California. It would be a 15 minute walk to the park entrance OR you can take the free shuttle bus

Hotel NewPort Bay

This would be the moderate hotel. It is located after Disney Village, past Hotel New York and Sequoia Lodge, at the end of Lake Disney. It is themed like a Newport Bay Yacht Club. It would be a 20 minute walk to the park main entrance OR you can take the free shuttle bus

Hotel Cheyenne
This would be the budget hotel. It is located after Disney Village and past Hotel New York. It is themed like Toy Story / Sherriff Woody, The Wild West. It would be a 20 minute walk to the main park entrance OR you can take the free shuttle bus

Hotel Santa Fe

This would be the budget hotel. It is located after Disney Village and past Hotel New York and then past Hotel Sequoia Lodge. It would be a 20 minute walk to the main park entrance OR you can take the free shuttle bus

some things you need to know about Disneyland Paris which are different to the American Parks

  1. You dont have to book using the website for your country. Disneyland Paris has different deals and offers on the different country websites. Most of us regulars would advise AGAINST booking with the American site as it is by far the most expensive
  2. The other country websites to check are
  3. http://www.disneylandparis.ie/
    http://www.disneylandparis.co.uk
    http://www.disneylandparis.fr
    http://www.disneylandparis.de
    http://www.disneylandparis.it
    http://www.disneylandparis.be
    http://www.disneylandparis.nl
  4. Disneyland Paris does not mail anything in the post. You get a confirmation email which you bring with you to checkin
  5. When you book direct with Disneyland Paris you are booking a hotel and park hopper tickets package
  6. Your park tickets are valid for both arrival day and departure day
  7. You can book direct with Disney through any of the websites. When you book through the website you will pay the full amount at the time of booking
  8. You can also book direct with Disney by phone. To call Disneyland Paris and not have to pay the international phone charges, just call the regular phone number for Walt Disney World in Florida and ask to be transferred to Disneyland Paris.
  9. When you book direct with Disney by phone you pay a 15% deposit and the balance is payable 30 or 60 days before arrivial, I cant remember which
  10. When you have booked you will get a confirmation email with your itinerary, you will need this email to check in
  11. Once you have your confirmation number you need to go to the website / country you booked with, not the country you live in. You will need to create a new MY DISNEY ACCOUNT on that website
  12. When you log in to your new My Disney Account you will see your itinerary. If you have a balance to pay you will see an online payment form.
  13. To pay your balance you can either phone again or pay online
  14. Restaurant ADR can only be booked over the phone. Just repeat step 8 and ask for Disneyland Paris Dining Reservations.
  15. Disneyland Paris Restaurant ADR open 60 days from arrival date
  16. Disneyland Paris does not have Magic Bands or Fatspass ++. The Fastpass are the paper ones which you get on the day at the machines beside the rides.

We did this a year ago. After a trip to Paris, used DVC points to stay two nights at Newport Bay. Hotel was ok, reminded us of Yacht/Beach Club at WDW, but nowhere near as nice. Two table service restaurants, one was buffet. Didn't use the restaurants because we wanted to maximize time in the parks. It was a long walk back at the end of the day. Hotel is really spread out and we were in one of the furthest rooms from the lobby, which made the walk even longer. Room was average size with two double beds, good size bathroom. If we were to do it again, we'd pick one of hotels closer to the park.

Hotel New York is the closest to walk to the parks. It has the largest rooms and double sinks in the bathroom, but is ready for its refurbishment. If you don't want a pool the Cheyenne has the most fun theming (Toy story/cowboy) if you request a room close to the walkway to the parks it's not much further than the HNY.

Worth mentioning that newport bay has just had a refurb, Cheyenne's just also finishing up its refurb where as hotel new york is about to begin its much needed refurb.

Personally, if you're on a tight budget then I would go for thr cheyenne which I think has the best theming of all the hotels. If you're not on a tight budget then Newport bay or disneyland hotel are the best options in terms of service and look and feel of the hotels.

I've stayed at two of the partner hotels: Dream Castle and Magic Circus. Both were fine and included an extensive breakfast buffet and transportation to/from the parks. We had some issues checking in for our first stay -- booked via Expedia, problems ensued -- but the staff was great. They didn't have the Disney touch though, and trying to get on the hotel shuttle at the end of the night was chaotic, to say the least.

Been reading several complaints about air conditioning not working or being inadequate. Is this a common issue at the DLP hotels or am I just seeing the few that had problems?

Thats probally a common issue for American visitors. While in America, air conditioning is standard, here in Europe its the exception. I very much doubt that the DLP hotels would have an in room, controllable air conditioning unit in each individual room.

Each hotel room comes with a thermostat on the wall which is for both AC and heating as it lets you set the temperature of the room. But I can tell you now that any time I have ever stayed at DLP the thermostat doesn't work and the rooms are always cool. In fact you can set the temperature to 25-30C for hours on end and feel no difference in temp!

For OP, I know you said DLH may be out of budget, but I would take a closer look. I stayed at Sequoia Lodge last week and while it was nice, every time I walked by the DLH when leaving I regretted not booking it. The proximity just can’t be beat and allows you to take more of a break during the day. For July, the park hours will be long-that gives you plenty of time to go back for rest breaks and because you don’t have the walk to/from hotel/park, it makes it sooo much easier!

Totally agree with this. I have done Newport Bay Compass Club last year, and Disneyland Hotel this year. Although NPB is beautiful, DLH is also beautiful in its’ own right and the location can not be beat. People say the walk back to NPB/SL/HNY isn’t that bad - at the end of a long day, after fireworks, it can feel like the longest walk in the world! Some people say DLH is tired and needs renovating - I thought it was totally fine and the rooms are enormous.

Do you have a recommendation for which couuntry's website to book through? Also, how do you book just a resort & add tickets later? When I tried to book it was forcing me into a package I don't want (too many days of tickets). Thanks!

Not particulary, it depends on when you are going, how many in your party , where you want to stay. The best thing to do is to decide your itinerary and then check out the different websites to find the price / deal that suits you best

the onsite properties are HOTELS NOT RESORTS :) The hotel and park tickets package is the standard normal procedure. Everyone books this if they stay onsite. The reason is because its cheaper to do the package then to just do the hotel and park tickets separately. Everyone gets park tickets for their arrival day and departure day and all days in between.

The only people who book the onsite hotels without the park tickets are the AP holders as they get a discount. The way the AP holders book just the hotel room is to phone Disneyland Paris. It is not possible to book room only through the websites.

How did you get the website to accept your payment when booking via a different country's website? I'm American trying to use the Canadian site, and it keeps blocking all my cards.

Already answered in the other thread. There isn't that much use in asking the same question multiple times
I was trying to ask a different poster who might not read that other thread.

That could possibly help, as my question is still unanswered. It certainly isn't going to hurt.

I think for every hotel you can find pros and cons, if you just need a place to stay and maybe go back for a short break, all of the onsite hotels are fine. And the walking distance back, I normally love the walk 5-20 minutes back. It relaxes me and it is nice to be out in the open air after the firework crowds. But it depends on hoe much you walk during the day and how used you are to walking in your life. If at home you are used to take the car for a 5 minute walk, then I would suggest to take the bus back to the hotel or get training.

About your question how to pay, it is possible for websites to block cards from other countries. Either to prevent fraud, or to make sure offers go to the right markets.

Call your card provider and let them know you will be booking something in a different currency, most likely its fraud prevention. I have had this with my card, phoned and told what I was trying to book so they didn't block the transaction

I second this idea. After I booked our DLP trip my card was flagged for fraud and a new card issued. I had to call my bank ahead of time to alert for each payment about to be made.
