I got the call at 5 am today. I was not happy for multiple reasons.
I am in Northwest Indiana. Our school corporation just called off Tues, Wed and Thurs because of the impending cold. :( We were off today too for snow & bad road conditions. I'm glad the kids got out to play today some because we will be housebound the next three days!

DH applied for CIP today. He got a “we are reviewing and will get back to you.”
Does he having anything to worry about? He has one other business card (SW business from chase), credit score over 800, and is at 3/24.
Anyone else who has gotten this message- how long does it take to get the response? (If he doesn’t get this one I want him to get the Marriott card in preparation for some larger purchases we have coming up.)

My DH also got that message for the CIP - was approved the next day. It varies from applicant to applicant; you can call the status line to check on the progress. 800-432-3117

Dd and her friends in Bloomington are hoping IU cancels classes for Wednesday when the projected windchill is -30.

Do you guys plug in cars for those really cold days? I think one of our issues in Chicago for Wednesday will be getting cars to start if it -15 or 20. Then if you do get it started, drive to work and leave it out in an unprotected lot all day, you might have trouble starting it.

Luckily we now have enough garage space for the number of cars so we don’t. When my son parked in the driveway in high school in his 13 year old car he did. In college my dd had to park outside but luckily those winters were all pretty mild. She has to work tomorrow night and it will be around -20 when she gets off, I am a little worried if it will start, but she is only a mile away so we can just go get her. It is a big concern though and you will usually see a few dead along the side of the road when you drive around.

Do you know your anniversary date with your Disney card? If you time it right then you might not have to pay that increased AF for a long time (based on the pattern I'm seeing)...
I just checked my old statements from the year I opened the card. It looks the the AF was originally charged on 2/1. If I upgraded say 3/1, would I circumvent the AF cycle until Feb 2020? Or would my anniversary date change and I get the AF charge say 4/1?

Tough nut to crack...it will wash, but you will get that 2% on dining, gas, and your Disney non-travel purchases. I can't pry it out of my DWs hands...so that is what she uses...thankfully I get the gas about 95% of the time and do the groceries 100%. I guess you have nothing to lose for the first year and you get that extra 1%.
That cute card can be hard to part with! Unless one of my other cards had another promo I guess I could switch to charging gas on it. I would probably say at most I would save an additional $15. Decisions.

See and I feel foolish for not downgrading mine to the regular from the Premier! I don't use it that much but when I do (like just booked the Illuminations package at Rose and Crown) it is nice to know getting the 2%. Are you still thinking you might get a direct DVC contract? If so, you might want to have the card in place. On my direct I put half on the CSR for the three times the points and half on the Disney so I could have some time to pay it off (with the 6 months 0% APR). The slight possibility that I might buy a few more direct points is what keeping me with the Premier instead of downgrading right now.
Hmm that is a good point. With a purchase that large the extra 1% could really be worth the upgrade. I think this offer expires 3/31. Maybe I will wait until the last second to do the change so I have it longer.

Back to the weather, our schools just closed for Tues and Wed due to cold. Nice long 5 day weekend for the kids LOL. They won't be as happy when they have to make them up later.
This is what I worry about. I foolishly booked us on a cruise right after school is out. Our flight to Vancouver leaves the morning after the last day of school. Any extra days tacked on, he will miss. I think they build in 3 snow days but after that I’m in trouble...

The interns at work are mostly from outside the Chicago area. One looks around today and says “I’m from India, she’s from Texas, she’s from Florida, maybe we should ask you...” I said never in 50+ years have I ever had a car not start from cold. But I generally park in a garage. He said, well my car didn’t start yesterday. Ruh-roh

I’m in the northern suburbs of Chicago. My DD is at UM. She only has one class on Weds that she says is a 10 minute walk. Interesting story about the law student...we’ll see what happens!

My walks on campus were KILLER! I wanted to be in South my freshman year. My classes were on North campus and at Frieze (which is now the newer dorm) and MLB. To catch the bus to north campus was a 30 minute walk, Freize (your *** off) bldg was a good 20 min walk. My sophomore year I got smarter and moved to MoJo...much shorter walks, as the hill was closer to classes.

I’ve called Marriott many times to ask them to extend the expiration and they always give me an additional 12 months from the date I call. YMMV though of course :)
How early are you calling (how long before expiration date)? Because I got a definite no late last year, but this week I got it done.

I think the rule is here in MI, the state has 6 days built in and then it's up to each district to add in anymore they want. I don't know how many they have built in where I teach vs where I live (2 different districts). I think in 20 years of teaching, we've only had to "make up" days twice. And we did it by modifying some 1/2 days to full days.

I'm jealous as some districts have already called off through Thursday. I'm guessing we WILL be going in tomorrow. It's a 1/2 day and we'll get our finals FINALLY done. But then I'm guessing we'll have 2 days off for the cold. I guess we'll see if I get any 5am texts or emails.

I typically wait until about 2-3 months before it expires (that way if they say no I can at least plan something...even a fun hotel night nearby for the family). I usually have a use in mind at that point and always mention how it would help my family.

North campus is so inconvenient! It would be awful to have to take the bus all the time! My DD lives in a house on Ann St. Short walk to the nursing school but a longer walk to the UGLI and to her sorority (near East quad). She said there have been two closures over the past 10 years or so. She said the Dean of nursing has the authority to cancel those classes. Even if Weds is cancelled, she has to be at the hospital early Thursday morning for a shadow experience. Such is life. I’ll be there this weekend....I hope it warms up for my visit!

Oh and it wasn't just North Campus...it was North Campus for 8am classes! UGH. The joy of one of the last orientations that year, LOL. If I remember it was EVERYDAY too! I hated my roommates who had all classes on central campus and not till like noon! If you've not had Angelo's go there for breakfast! Get the deep fried french toast. And I love Pizza House, and Zingermann's Roadhouse. I taught in A2 for 11 years.....I still love campus, but hate the city after the hell they put me through, LOL. One of the people on my hall sophomore year is a professor now at the Nursing school. She have a Dr.(Nurse) Bigelow?

So my sister tells me now we have no days built in, they will just be adding on each day. Today was day 2, assuming Wednesday will be day 3. Wednesday is supposed to be a half day.

I love AA and the campus! I’ve been to Angelo’s, Pizza House, Zingermann’s Roadhouse and Deli lol. One of our favorites is Blue Tractor BBQ. I’m not a fan of driving around AA in good weather let alone with snow but I’m excited for the getaway and to see my DD!

Would there be any issues with him missing those last few day of makeup school? I remember those days being pretty much a waste of time anyway.

Well I guess I’ll find out. Lol. No choice now, cruise is PIF. I’m pretty sure there’s not much the last couple weeks, but the idea of it seems bad to me, like I’m setting a bad example. Plus I’ll have to make sure he cleans out all his belongings that Friday when everybody else will be returning.
