The Running Thread - 2019

January Totals:

Running: 113.5 miles
Average Pace: 9:37
Total Elevation Gain: 11,493 ft
Steps: 515,000

A little low on miles for me due to a 8K race instead of a long run and then some foot pain, but the pace is 20 second/mile faster than last month, so I'm happy.

I don't track them, but I'm pretty sure I hit 2 yoga classes per week and 2 strength training workouts per week.

Better luck next month!
it's already next month and I am working hard to improve. I have some time set aside Sunday at Baseline before watching the game at night, so i feel good about how the month will shape up, despite it being the shortest month. And training for Princess and parking lot beers after. But March is where its going to happen, with Best Damn Race Orlando on the 2nd, and unlimited beers afterwards.

Says the woman who seems to have given up on her margarita streak :(
Look, if I am gonna be honest, I would guess that I drank about 36 Margaritas total for the month of January!

ALSO, thanks for reminding me that my February Marg Streak starts today! (February 22nd is National Margarita Day, please join me in celebration.)
And you know whaaatttt... I had a Margarita yesterday, so I guess the streak is back and already rolling...

My motto for the next few months is “Run the mile you are in”. For me that means letting go of time and pace expectations of where I think I should be or what I think I should be doing and simply run as much as my ankle says is ok. I am going to let go off all other expectations. I have some races set in late spring and I will run them if I am ready and if not, I won’t. I had been starting to get anxious and wanting to push the healing, which of course does not work. So I am going to follow the return to running program and bike like crazy. Really I am just happy to be moving again.

I Feel good about my monthly totals and with recovery. My PT said that he is seeing lots of improvement in my ankle stabilization and has upped the difficulty and amount of exercises. All of it is music to my ears!

Run/walk: 70 miles
Biking: 331 miles
PT Visits: 7

Races to add:

May 19 - @roxymama - Chicago Spring Half Marathon - (2:1X:00/NA)

Sep 29 - @roxymama - Chicago Fall Half Marathon - (NG/NA)

I had to do it since you get another medal for doing both.
What has runDisney done to us? Ha ha. My little sister and I are doing a Half Marathon followed by a 5K in September because of the extra medal if you run both races. We're also considering some virtual races tied to that half because of the series medal(s).

I love this. Sometimes we get too lost in a future mile or what we did in a past mile and that can wreak all sorts of havoc.

January miles: 53. 48.6 of those miles were Dopey. Planning on resuming running next week.

January
total miles: 210.11
avg. pace: 7:51/mile

I was surprised it was that much since I took it easy the first half of the month. 1/3 of my miles were from Jan. 1-15 (which includes WDW Marathon). I have felt remarkably well the past couple of weeks, so running hasn't been dreadful. I have a few target workouts, but have relaxed my pace expectations on regular runs. It feels fantastic--and I am happy to get off that stupid elliptical.

I also rode over 200 miles on the spin bike, but generally don't count that anything more than cross training.

Even better, I have cleaned up my eating which includes VERY limited alcohol. It was tough at the beginning because I LOVE my glass of wine with dinner and IPA on the weekends. Now, I can have one drink on the weekends. As much as it pains me to say it, I think I perform better when not drinking regularly.

Last year I started only drinking alcohol on the weekends, which I define as Fri-Sun. It did take a little while to adjust, but now it seems like second nature. Can't say it has had much of an impact. Now if only I could do the same thing with chocolate......

The race I'm running a week from tomorrow has a paired race two weeks later with a 'mega medal', a third medal that connects the two. (Similar to the NYD/NYE one I posted when we were talking about medals recently.) I'm currently only planning to run the first one, but...unfortunately, the second race is the day before a business trip. Not saying it's impossible, just tougher. (But, it's not like I wouldn't be running at least a 5k that day anyway as part of my SW training...argh.)
