Dining Wars: Drinking's Edge - An August 2018 Dining Report - Updated 2/18: Completed

Sounds like a perfect AK day.
Can't believe Casey was able to keep the braid that long.
Any tofu I've had has been tasteless but that looked yummy, but fry most anything and I'll eat it.

First, AK is my favorite park as well! Great minds think a like!
Great minds most definitely do!!! Of course Nomads helps with my love but the theming really is just beyond there.

Second, Satu’li Canteen is wonderful, Andi tried the tofu bowl this trip and it was pretty darn good, I have loved every bowl I have had here. I have tried the one with the greens and the rice one. The breaded hotdog on the kids menu is super tasty food as well.
Welcome back!!! Hope you all had a great trip. I'm headed over to check out your trip report right now!

Love the hat show! Andi use to love to get the braid each trip and man it can stay in a long time!
And we ended up having to cut this one out so now Casey has about a 2 inch piece of hair that just sticks out from the top of her head. She looks like a chicken :-)

In May, I need to try your favorite drink at Nomads!
And just think we can try it together :drinking1

I’m trying to see where I can insert Nomad Lounge in my plans in July now lol! Maybe I’ll bypass the ROL package... lol!
Nomads over the Rivers of Life Package, now there is a no brainer :drinking1

First off, I absolutely LOVE Casey's Zootopia tee. Do you think it comes in my size? Hee! Hee!
You'll never believe I found that at a consignment sale for like $1, but I'll keep an eye out for your next time :-)

Second, I cannot wait to try Santu'li Canteen in May. It is at the very top of my list!!!! I'm glad you all liked it. I am totally getting those cheeseburger pods...
They only have the cheeseburger pods in the kids meal now but I've heard you can order 2 and they'll just combine it into 1 meal.

Sounds like a perfect AK day.
Can't believe Casey was able to keep the braid that long.
Any tofu I've had has been tasteless but that looked yummy, but fry most anything and I'll eat it.
It was the perfect day. So perfect I'm hopeful we can recreate it in just a few weeks :-)

Tofu is pretty tasteless, but it takes on the flavor of whatever it is with. I love it for the consistency of it, though we did have fresh homemade tofu at a restaurant in vegas one time and it was unbelievable!

I am SO doing this in May and we are SO riding Splash together! Give Casey a huge :thanks: hug from me; my boys will be ever so thrilled next time we ride this and their mom does this for the picture :thumbsup2:thumbsup2
:rotfl2:

I know right? At this point I'm surprised Halloween isn't starting in July and they don't milk Christmas parties until February :P
Exactly!

I am so glad we tried Satuli Canteen.
I love this place! It hasn't disappointed yet!

I think Casey was a fan.
I think so!

Even our server commented that this happens daily and it messes with the servers as some end up with no patrons as they literally have tables with no chairs. End rant.
Ugh, this irks me so much! My family owned a restaurant for 30+ years (I was indentured from age 8 in its service) and this would be SO irritating to me!!! I'll second your rant ;)

Thanks for the support! Casey would be so jealous of your indentured servitude. She is dying to work in a restaurant and practices waiting on us regularly!

Episode XVI: Revenge of the Tipsy Notes

After our fun filled day in the Animal Kingdom we headed back to the Scaffolding Club for some pool time only to find it closed yet again despite there being no sign of thunderstorms anywhere! This was our 4th or 5th summer trip in recent years and I can never recall a pool being closed this much. I'm not sure if Beach Club is overly cautious or if Disney changed their policy, but my dreams of lounging (aka drinking) by the pool daily were never met.

With some time to kill before dinner and no pool to swim in we sat out on our scaffolding balcony and did our best job at making sure we left no wine behind when we checked out. As a result, we get our second installment of tipsy notes of the trip.

For dinner we weren't going far and arrived at Yachtsman Steakhouse about 20 minutes early. They weren't quite ready for us so we had some drinks next door at "Crew Club" (aka Crew's Cup) while we waited. Jason got a "9" beer that I didn't get a picture of and I went with a Watermelon Margarita.

This was "2 tart fake tart ick!" This did not stop me from consuming it all.

We were seated in a small room off the main dining room and had a great server named Carrie. Of course with a name like that she had to be good :-) We overheard her comping a couple celebrating their anniversary a Minnie van ride when they stated how long it had taken them to get there on Disney transportation. Now that's service.

We of course started with the amazing Yachtsman onion rolls and roasted garlic.

In case you hadn't figured it out my tipsy notes tend to bleed over into "beautiful" tipsy photos so apologies in advance :P Apparently I was a little disgruntled that they only gave us two onion rolls because "only 2 onion Y Y Y"

And being the good mother that I am saddled Casey with one of the non-onion rolls :-)

Thankfully we got over it because we started with the cheese plate.

The food runner just put the cheese down in front of us and didn't mention what anything was. Never fear though, I got this. "Like raisins best no shrooms stinky cheese horrible stanky and see weed???? to much pungent just Casey eat honey."

Here is what we actually got.

To wash this to much pungent down we went with a Napa Valley Petit Syrah from a winery we'd visited on our honeymoon.

This was "leap blackberry uper jammy need to open legs for days ned to age but fret with steak."

Casey went with a different and infinitely more colorful vintage.

For those who didn't bring their flashlights along, Jason got the 16 oz Ribeye with Truffle Fries with Black Garlic Aïoli and Blue Heaven Shallot Butter for his entree.

Otherwise known as "J luv nasty fat steak ick but haven butter. Fry good not ruffley thu" I'm pretty sure Jason loved this (even the ruffley fries) but I hate fat so ribeyes aren't for me. I apparently did like his butter though but the tries weren't trufflely enough for my tipsy palate.

Casey and I shared the worlds tiniest 8 oz fillet with a side of what I think was au gratin potatoes. I was however apparently disappointed that they no longer had the 10oz version for us to share.

"YYYYY no more 10 once" side note apparently Y was my favorite letter this day "still fill perfect rear need salt first time love xtreme taters."

It also appears we ordered a side of asparagus, because I have this picture, but my notes make no mention of it so I got nothing.

Given my notes I'm going to say this was another successful trip to Yacthsman and shockingly I did chronicle that we saved $41.80 with our Tables in Wonderland card.

After dinner we stumbled our way back to the Scaffolding Club, but not before stopping for a photo that Casey was thrilled to be a part of.

After 8 days of Disney she was over me and photos!

We eventually got back to our room where we finished off the wine and enjoyed some people watching and a beautiful view (as long as you only looked up).

Up next our last day and a surprise DIS meet.

:rotfl:Love your tipsy notes! I think maybe they are rationing the onion rolls. I ordered them in Crews Cup not long ago and must have had a look on my face b/c server quickly said he could replenish. Love that ordering here is an option! Harbison cheese was a central element in a recent episode of Top Chef and I’ve been wanting to try it. Glad it was another good meal there! Casey’s face in the last picture is priceless!

Oh my the wine description had me laughing out loud! So funny! The steaks do look delicious even in the darkness, haha!

Tipsy notes are so fun!

What a wonderful view at the scaffolding club, keep your eyes up!

We really need a tipsy dinner together.

Your dinner sounds like a lot of fun! Love the choice in wine as well!

Yachtsman Was a wonderful choice for your final meal.

Episode XVI: Revenge of the Tipsy Notes
Love the title!!!!

The food runner just put the cheese down in front of us and didn't mention what anything was. Never fear though, I got this. "Like raisins best no shrooms stinky cheese horrible stanky and see weed???? to much pungent just Casey eat honey."
stanky cheese. Ha! Poor Casey was left with just honey. Ha

e but fret with steak."
fret with steak? is fret good or bad?

"YYYYY no more 10 once" side note apparently Y was my favorite letter this day "still fill perfect rear need salt first time love xtreme taters."
Looks perfectly cooked, for sure! And Y is a great letter. Ha.

Love the tipsy notes!! Casey looks so grown up in those pictures! Maybe it’s the expression too. Lol! We’re staying at Yacht Club in the summer and hope the pool won’t be closed so often. Yachtmans looks great! May have made a mistake making a reservation at Le Cellier instead.

After our late night we let Casey sleep until 10:30 the next morning but not wanting to miss our precious Flight of Passage fast pass we decided to uber to Animal Kingdom. This good idea started looking even better when our driver took us to what I thought was a secret back entrance to Animal Kingdom. Turns out he just had no idea where he was going and we were at some kind of gardening center on the backside of Animal Kingdom. I was a little too worried to take pictures, but we eventually ended up in the right place after our harrowing adventure….
Hmm, kind of like our Lyft driver who took us all the way through some back HS parking lot on our way to meet you at the GF, AFTER Steve gave him the wrong resort name and we ended up 10 minutes past the Gaylord Palms......

We went to Sat'uli during the Pandora AP preview, Steve loved his bowl and I did not so much love my cheeseburger pods. However I'm dying to get back and try a bowl for myself, it seems we just don't eat in AK that often. I'd say maybe in May but I'd choose Nomads first :thumbsup2

Up next our last day and a surprise DIS meet.

Tipsy Notes ... You should turn them into a parlour game for your next rainy day, or a board game to pay for your next tipsy trip!

It may have been tiny, but that widdle fillet and the asparagus looks so good ... Yep, now I'm hungry!

For those of us playing at home, just how did you fit all that fun (and grog!) into a mere eight days?!? I hope you have a trip planned very soon as my withdrawal symptoms from a lack of your reviews will be too difficult to bare for long. :D

I am embarrassingly far behind again but am here to catch up!

Seriously though this was a big surprise as this is very uncharacteristic of him – as I usually do the surprising – and he’d even thought ahead and had bought a costume for Casey and snuck it into the suitcase.
Points for Jason! That is a great surprise. :)

I went for a cup of their tomato soup, which I’d had previously and recalled how good it was.
I love a good tomato soup but you are right, that is a very small serving for $8.

After dinner the party was kicking into full gear, but first Casey needed one last thing to make her costume perfect.
The perfect added touch!

They had added real pirates for Halloween, which was fun, though even funnier was Jason trying to take down the dinosaur? chicken? lizard? thing in front of us.
That picture is hilarious!

From there we hit up Big thunder and then got our splash on. Casey didn’t want to do splash as like @ariane37 with her bangs, she was afraid of messing up her face paint so……
Classic!

We ended up getting a great spot in Frontierland to see the second parade and it was amazing. I won’t scare you with my horrible photos, but this was hands down the best parade any of us had seen.
I just loved that parade too!

We even stopped and took our picture so at least there was proof someone besides Casey was there.
This is a great picture. I love your HM top!

I went in the total opposite direction and got the Chili-Spiced Crispy Fried Tofu Bowl on the red & sweet potato hash topped with the charred onion chimichurri.
I had this this summer too but had the rice and bean base with the creamy herb sauce. It was so good!

Of course we wouldn’t be us without some carbonated beverages to wash it all down.
You wouldn't want to disappoint us! After all, how would we know what to order if you didn't review it for us.....right???:goodvibes

After lunch Casey wanted to do a little shopping, which thankfully for my wallet turned into a hat modeling photoshoot instead.
I know I've said it before but she is just so cute!!

We hung out in Nomads though the rain where I of course enjoyed my Annapurna Zings…
Love those too!

We were also a tad bit hungry so we also got some Smoked Pork Ribs with Sweet Soy-glaze, Toasted Sesame.
They are on my must try list for this summer!

We of course started with the amazing Yachtsman onion rolls and roasted garlic.
Love those!

This was "leap blackberry uper jammy need to open legs for days ned to age but fret with steak."
Best tipsy notes ever!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

"YYYYY no more 10 once" side note apparently Y was my favorite letter this day "still fill perfect rear need salt first time love xtreme taters."
Even better!

After dinner we stumbled our way back to the Scaffolding Club, but not before stopping for a photo that Casey was thrilled to be a part of.
Haha! Just wait....soon that will be the only expression you get in photos!

Those tipsy notes! OMG! Your book is just writing itself :rotfl:

After our fun filled day in the Animal Kingdom we headed back to the Scaffolding Club for some pool time only to find it closed yet again despite there being no sign of thunderstorms anywhere! This was our 4th or 5th summer trip in recent years and I can never recall a pool being closed this much.

That makes me nervous. We are going in early July 2020 and plan on spending hot afternoons at the pool.

After dinner we stumbled our way back to the Scaffolding Club, but not before stopping for a photo that Casey was thrilled to be a part of.

After 8 days of Disney she was over me and photos!

 At least you look amazing!

Apparently I was a little disgruntled that they only gave us two onion rolls because "only 2 onion Y Y Y"
I've always asked for an entire basket of onion rolls, sometimes extras even after that.

Your dinner looked delicious, I love going to Yachtsman, I need to get back there. Love your tipsy notes they are hilarious.

1. I had no idea they served the rolls in Crews Cup. I'll have to remember that. But 2. Why in the heck are they rationing them? You cannot introduce us to these amazing creatures then try and hold back on is.

You'll be shocked to know that even after eating it I have no idea what Harbison cheese still is :P That said now I'll remember that we did actually eat it when we watch Top Chef. I've been sick so we are a couple of episodes behind, but it is my most favorite show! Jason and I agree on very little TV but Top Chef is one that is at the top of our lists.

Oh my the wine description had me laughing out loud! So funny! The steaks do look delicious even in the darkness, haha!

Tipsy notes are so fun!
I'm thinking they will ask me to starting writing for wine enthusiast or bon appetit after that review :P Clearly I have a way with not only words, but photos.

I'm about to lick your rolls and garlic right off my screen here.
I was wondering where all that smearing came from :-)

We really need a tipsy dinner together.

Your dinner sounds like a lot of fun! Love the choice in wine as well!

Yachtsman Was a wonderful choice for your final meal.

Oh a tipsy dinner would be perfect! We can be loud and obnoxious and drink our tipsy drinks and our husbands could talk running but be inwardly so proud of their tipsy wives :D I'm sure we'll have trips overlap one of these days!

stanky cheese. Ha! Poor Casey was left with just honey. Ha
I'm guessing that was a personal choice on her part, but who wouldn't pick honey over stanky cheese :-)

ret with steak? is fret good or bad?
I think technically fret is bad, but in this case I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that fret was a pseudonym for great.

Looks perfectly cooked, for sure! And Y is a great letter. Ha.
They seriously cook the most perfect steak. But Y it's so good I'll never know :P

She is certainly growing up way to fast (she'll be 8 in a few weeks) but I think that I hate my Mom get me out of his picture has 16 written all over it :P

I hope you all have better luck with the pool than us. I'd never experienced anything like it.

We've never done Le Cellier, but I hear good things. We just love Yachtsman so much we can't take the risk of anything else costing the same but not being as amazing.

Hmm, kind of like our Lyft driver who took us all the way through some back HS parking lot on our way to meet you at the GF, AFTER Steve gave him the wrong resort name and we ended up 10 minutes past the Gaylord Palms......
I had totally forgotten about that. Maybe it was the same guy??? But unlike Steve I had most definitely not given them the wrong name.

We MUST do Nomads together, but Satuli is definitely worth another look. Skip the Mickey D's this time around and stick to the bowls and beer and you'll be a happy camper.

Tipsy Notes ... You should turn them into a parlour game for your next rainy day, or a board game to pay for your next tipsy trip!
That would be a fun game. Funny thing is I don't even know when they are coming or if they exist at all. I usually don't look at my notes until I write them up, so its like my own little personal gem when I come upon them. My tipsy fingers know no spellcheck :drinking1

It may have been tiny, but that widdle fillet and the asparagus looks so good ... Yep, now I'm hungry!
Tiny or not it was definitely good. Just wish I remembered anything about the asparagus. Something tells me it was Asian in some way but that's about all I got.

For those of us playing at home, just how did you fit all that fun (and grog!) into a mere eight days?!? I hope you have a trip planned very soon as my withdrawal symptoms from a lack of your reviews will be too difficult to bare for long. :D
It's tough on the liver, but these are the sacrifices I make in the name of dining reporting :-)

And funny you should ask we're heading back in just a few weeks. Casey will turn 8 and she and Jason are doing the Princess races. Like any good princess I'll just be drinking instead of racing :drinking1

Points for Jason! That is a great surprise. :)
He did get MAJOR points. This is very unlike him so I was shocked he'd done it.

This is a great picture. I love your HM top!
Thanks! I don't have a ton of WDW clothing but love me some Haunted Mansion.

I had this this summer too but had the rice and bean base with the creamy herb sauce. It was so good!
I knew you'd be in the tofu club with me. I'll have to try that base next time. So good!

Best tipsy notes ever!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2:
I'm not sure if they were my best but I can at least attest that they were tipsy :drinking1

Haha! Just wait....soon that will be the only expression you get in photos!
I know and sadly it will be here before I know it

Those tipsy notes! OMG! Your book is just writing itself :rotfl:
Writing itself.. Drinking itself. Potato Potatho :drinking1

That makes me nervous. We are going in early July 2020 and plan on spending hot afternoons at the pool.
We seriously had never had anything like this happen. Hopefully it was just an anomaly as we'll be going back again this August.

 At least you look amazing!
Ah gee thanks. Of course I'm sure you are fixated by my ruby red wine stained lips :P

I've always asked for an entire basket of onion rolls, sometimes extras even after that.

Your dinner looked delicious, I love going to Yachtsman, I need to get back there. Love your tipsy notes they are hilarious.
We usually just get a whole basket without asking. I probably should have said something but I think I wanted to make sure I had room for the stanky cheese :-)

In a bit of a side rant at least 3 large parties came in while we were here and decided that sitting in areas made for 4 or 5 people with 10 was somehow acceptable. They took seats from other areas leaving some with no seating. I get wanting to sit with your party, but clearly this bar isn’t configured to fit large parties. Even our server commented that this happens daily and it messes with the servers as some end up with no patrons as they literally have tables with no chairs. End rant.

Just when you thought you've heard all the possible rude behavior in Disney, you hear of a new one!

On a different note, I :rotfl2: very time you say "Scaffolding Club." We're going to YC in April and I hope we have better luck with the pool and the construction.

Your trip report has basically convinced me to get a TIW card on our next trip. I mean, all those drinks do add up!
