Hotel Room during Disney Fairytale Wedding

Hello!

I am planning a Disney Fairytale Wedding for December 2019. We are in the very early stages of planning. We are 99% sure on having our ceremony at the Wedding Pavilion and our reception at the Grand Floridian.

I was wondering if anyone had recommendations of where to stay before and after the wedding? We would like to stay within a reasonable budget (and hopefully can use free night(s) from our room block). Staying at the Grand Floridian would be most convenient since that is where the wedding will be, but I would like to look into other options as well. I would like to get ready in a sizable room so that family members can come and go and we will have room for someone to do my hair and makeup. What about changing rooms the night before your wedding and the night of your wedding? I would love to hear reviews that worked/did not work for you and your spouses.

Also, if anyone has recommendations or information on what worked and what did not work for their room blocks, please share. I am most overwhelmed with the room process right now.

Thanks in advance for your help and consideration! :)

Welcome! This episode of the Disney Wedding Podcast explains everything you need to know about the room block, with lots of tips: https://disneyweddingpodcast.com/room-block-overview/

From my experience and from talking with other brides for the last 7 years, you do NOT want to hassle with checking in or out of a hotel on your wedding day. It makes the getting-ready process way more stressful. Use your free room night(s) to stay at the Grand Floridian to make everything easier, then switch to a more affordable hotel for the rest of your honeymoon, if necessary. We changed resorts 5 times on our two-week honeymoon, and it wasn’t very much trouble at all. Plus it made our stay feel longer because each resort felt like a whole new vacation.

We stayed at the Boardwalk, while our reception venue was there, we still were bussed from the Wedding Pavillion to Boardwalk then to Epcot then back. So it didn't necessarily benefit us for staying at the same place where our reception was. I'm not sure if you are having a dessert party.

I will say that, my wife read a lot of lurkyloo's stuff prior and when we checked into Boardwalk, my wife was decked out in her wedding gear (Ears, pins, shirt that said bride) and they did upgrade our room to a suite. Not sure if they still do that.

I got married at the wedding pavilion and had my reception at the Grand Floridian Ballrooms. Originally had a room booked at Bay Lake Tower, but a room opened up at the Grand Floridian Villas and it was the perfect place to stay. Not having to worry about transportation to get there the morning of and the room between both locations was absolutely perfect. If you can only do it for the free night I highly suggest doing it there, it really does help being nearby.

Can I jump on the band wagon and ask if it's the memories package, do you still get a free night in a hotel?

I believe it's tied to a roomblock, not the type of package you get, but not sure I did wishes. We had to have 10 nights booked before we could get a night free.

Thank you. Did you mention the free night or did they offer it to you at time of booking your wedding?

Our room block coordinator told us about the free night. We were given a choice of hotels to pick from and had to tell them right away when we were picking the hotels to block off where we wanted it and what night.

You definitely want to stay in a hotel right where the ceremony is-it's just too hectic and stressful otherwise. We got married at the Swan & stayed at the Swan (as did most of our guests) the night before the wedding. We had an Epcot Dessert Party the night before our wedding as well, and it was so nice to be able to walk "home" afterwards :) The Swan gave us a complimentary second suite for my husband and his grooms party to get dressed in, so I could get ready without him seeing me.

We moved to the Polynesian Club Level for our wedding night and half of our honeymoon. Spent the second half of our honeymoon in the Wilderness Lodge.

In order to qualify for a free night, you have to set up a room block and guarantee that you and your guests will book at least 10 room nights.

Carrie: Didn't Disney used to offer a free night as part of the DFTW package? Or was it always only with a room block?
