Although AMEX is dead to me I did keep some cards open, including BBP and BCE (and I actually took an upgrade offer to BCP). Obviously you can decide for yourself but don’t overreact and lose your 2x MR card or 3% grocery card (which can be upgraded to a 6% card) if you may want those options in the future.Add me to the list of people who now live by the mantra “Amex is dead to me, I’m rocking with Chase”. Last December, I was targeted via mail for the 10k pay over time offer. I signed up on December 2 and still don’t have my points.
I’ve chatted twice only to be told to wait up to 12 weeks. Today when I chatted I was told they “investigated” and found no offer attached to my account. This after three reps confirmed they saw it.
I went ballastic. The rep had the audacity to say they can’t manually give me the points because “they already gave me a 20,000 point retention offer”. I said those points weren’t free, I had to spend $2,000 and I just paid a $725 membership fee on my Platinum card on 2/15. Please don’t act like you gave me anything for free.
I escalated it to a supervisor who confirmed that the offer is on my account and to wait the 12 weeks. If I don’t get them by March 2, I’ll be contacting the executive office and the cpfb.
They messed with the wrong one today..lol I have every intention of canceling my bbp and blue cash ever day. Chase will get all my business going forward. I’ll transfer my existing points to JetBlue and be done with it. I’m keeping my Platinum until next year because I just paid the fee.
The plan for this year
Sign up Bonuses- Giftcard mall
Amex Gold 4x At grocery stores
Ebates Card I’m hoping I can get 4x MR at Giftcardmall with this.
CIP x2 trying to get $150,000 each at giftcard mall
Hyatt 15k for a free night(this is low in my list right now) I’ll try getting giftcards when I get a good deal.
ive read that this will not work... but im not sure if that excludes 3PGCs.
Ppl were talking about using a BOA card that earns 3x + MR points.
Yippee! Just received DS's acceptance for private school! Now I just need that CIU to arrive so I can pay the 10% deposit and facilities fee since it says I can do it electronically. That will put us close to the MSR
I like the sound of that. This was for excursions or something like it? I can't make a payment because I used UR points for it and the remaining balance has to go on one of my UR cards. Wasn't sure if the activities group codes any different than the sales group if I called in.
Although I guess I'm over thinking it. If it doesn't work I should be able to cancel it and rebook it with the NCL card. I don't think I'm picking anything super popular to worry about a sell out.
VGCs getting credit on ebates from GCM? I know they are on Swagbucks...but would start using ebates more.Yeah I’m not too optimistic about this but it still gets 4% cash if I use my cash earning account but idk if I’ll bother.
You are correct. But yeah they pissed me off..lolAlthough AMEX is dead to me I did keep some cards open, including BBP and BCE (and I actually took an upgrade offer to BCP). EDIT: I have my wife’s BCE still open but I closed mine to free up a slot a couple years ago and really regret it at times. I wish I still had that card sometimes.
I feel you! And I totally cancelled all of my BoA cards in a similar anger - but I also knew I wouldn’t regret or miss any of those cards (and I don’t).You are correct. But yeah they pissed me off..lol
Which VGCs work with Serve? Are you only doing WM? Think I missed the discussionGot a serve card today at Walmart and did the first load using a VGC without any problems. Can’t wait to get another one for me and two for SO. Easy $20,000 MS every month. Thanks @Albort for your help.
She has new clothes all the time (and this kills me but she just buys stuff without trying it on and then never bothers to return things that don’t fit).

Yeah - some of the MS discussion ends up on DISchurners because we like to keep it off the grid and it’s more advanced and not something all of us get involved in.its mostly on dischurners...
Ask them if they prefer the gift card over nada.Anyone have any thoughts if a VGC is an acceptable wedding gift?
Yeah, I love Dave. I listen to his podcast. Good motivator. He has helped many get out of debt...I don't agree with his firm anti-CC stance, but there are people who should not be using CC at all. But the generalization (his) that they are evil and everyone runs them up...just wrong.
I like when people call in with a huge amount of student loan debt and he asks them if they are doctors.I was actually listening to a bunch of recordings from his show on Youtube yesterday and man... some of the situations people get themselves into were mind blowing to me. I mean, I have a lot of student debt. But yeesh.
Thank you everyone for the wonderful replies!
In small farming, I think it's pretty much done this way that you write checks for your inputs. You save an exorbitant amount of money in prepaying your inputs. We paid cash for a new shed (money was from inheritance and savings). We also have to be careful in that we don't want to have our supplier see us paying using credit cards. It's small town living....
Thanks for everyone who mentioned using the pay service. I'm going to look into that because I have two large farm payments ($11,000 each) this year. We were going to pay it with a personal check to Compeer, but this may be an excellent opportunity to churn and meet minimum spending.
I have to be very careful as well with our credit. I want to maintain my excellent credit score as we plan to purchase more farms in the future.
We did envelopes for dining and since I've been on the MSRs we definitely spend more on out to eat.I've heard so many people say to do cash envelopes or carry cash for little expenses because it's harder to part with than just swiping a credit card, but I've found it to be the total opposite in my case. If I have a couple random dollars in my purse, I'm totally willing to spend that on books from Goodwill or some Starbucks or something. But swiping my credit card? Well, let me think about it because then I'm going to log this in my budget later and it will be more out of my restaurant budget so then I'll have less money freed up to go to my horse show budget line item... etc.
Then again, I am whatever the opposite of an impulse spender is. It will literally take me years to decide to purchase an item. I've wanted one of those Disney jerseys since our August 2017 trip and I still can't convince myself to spend the money on it
