Updated 7/28 - SWGE Preview trip planning! - Coooo-rrect! Mom/Daughter Do WDW—A Feb 2019 TR

Joining in. Wow on the upgrade. I am glad you didn’t settle for the bunk bed room, not comfortable for 2 adults!

Awesome pictures of your MK adventures!

Oooooooo I hope you make it before her for the big pixie dust surprise!! So very exciting! Congratulations on the fabulous upgrade! Love your pictures too! :flower:
:welcome: We'll see!! :) Though I did tell her to just wait for me in the lobby when she got there rather than go to the desk, just in case she did beat me, 'cause I wanted to give her the surprise!

Hooray for club level! That's so exciting!
What a great day so far.
It really was! And it only got better...

Loving this so far! Your Disney Happy comes through loud and clear and I love it! Your pictures are wonderful. Yay for the new phone!
Aw, thank you! Glad you're enjoying :)

What an awesome upgrade! Such a nice way to start your trip.
I was so grateful to the kind CM for the upgrade--it really was a wonderful start.

So delighted your solo adventure has morphed into a mom-daughter trip and fun birthday celebration for your mom!!

Woohoo on the club level upgrade. And I can’t wait to hear how you liked WL. We got an upgrade at the Poly one year when our kids were little....we had free dining and the kids weren’t big eaters at that age so we missed some of the food benefit, but it was magical nonetheless. Great way to start the trip!

Mary Poppins and Two rides on SDMT already! Wow! Pixie dust galore. :tink:
:welcome: Thanks! I was a bit nervous about if Mom would be able to enjoy the trip (with all the house selling drama back home and then she's not a huge Disney fan), but it ended up being great. And the upgrade really really helped set a great tone, especially for Mom. Ooh, a Poly upgrade! How exciting! Though I definitely sympathize about missing some of the food benefit. But like you say, magical nonetheless.

Awesome pixie dust! Club level and 7DMT all in the same day :D
:welcome: I was over the moon! :)

How exciting! I know we'd love WL. Next time we manage a deluxe it is at the top of my list!
It's gorgeous, and so many fun things for the kids to do. Hope you get to experience it soon! Maybe stalk Priceline Express for a good deal and book another trip without telling your husband? Though maybe not 'cause Priceline Express deals can't be canceled, but still.... :)

Awesome pictures of your MK adventures!
:welcome: I'll admit I was a little bit curious to see the bunk beds, but yea, I figured they wouldn't be super comfortable. I wasn't expecting club level pixie dust though.
Thanks! I'm not a great photographer, but I have fun with them. :)

Ha! It did seem to work in my favor this time! I've been reading about the PE deals, so it's definitely something to keep in mind.

Awesome upgrade! I followed along on your last trip report as I was going through Disney withdrawal. My husband and I were there the same week in September as you and your husband and then I was there the same time as you this last trip. I was kinda looking out for you so I could say hi but never did see you. Anyway, looking forward to reading all about your mother daughter trip.

I watched several episodes of the Netflix show "One Day at a Time" on the plane (they just released a new season--go check it out!), and before I knew it we were landing in Orlando. We even landed a few minutes early! I put on my magic band (with my shiny new Annual Passholder slider) and stood up to get off the plane.
Doesn't having that AP slider on feel great???

And then, just a few more minutes and I was passing under this gorgeous arch for the first time!
Wow! I can't wait until I am doing the same thing in July!

Anyways, all the logistics squared away, I headed out to the boat dock to catch a boat to the Magic Kingdom! Almost immediately a boat pulled up: the "Calm Seas". Captain Bobby was hilarious--very "in character" as a pirate captain. The 10 of us on the boat were in stitches.
There are many excellent boat captains at WDW, what a wonderful job that would be!

it was Terri from the front desk! She was calling to let me know that not only was she able to find me a room with 2 queen beds, but that she was upgrading me to Club Level! What?!
WOW!!!!!!!! Major pixie dust!

So yea, I was a bit distracted the rest of the boat ride to the Magic Kingdom. I couldn't believe the pixie dust! But soon enough the boat arrived at the Magic Kingdom and I was enthralled by a slightly different type of pixie dust.
So amazing!!

That didn't take very long--I was tapping into Peter Pan at 1:22. I really had fun with my new phone on this ride. I don't usually take ride photos 'cause my old phone camera wasn't great, but this one...wow. Peter Pan looked better through the camera than in reality! All the colors popped and glowed.
Your pictures are gorgeous!

My next stop was Memento Mori. There were some Haunted Mansion souvenirs I wanted: the little doom buggy toy that plays snippets from the ride, and the little big of the stretching room portraits that unzips to show the whole portrait. Luckily both were in stock! I don't have my own pictures, so these are from the Disney store online. Super fun, both of them. :)
I love Momento Mori!

I was seated in the little side room/greenhouse thing, which was really nice. My server seemed a bit distracted but he was very nice and brought my strawberry salad promptly. I don't know what it is about this salad, but I really really like it. The saltiness of the cheese, the sweetness of the strawberries and the vinagrette...yum. It really hit the spot.
That salad looks fab!

I knew I had about 45 minutes or so before Mom arrived at the hotel, so I decided to see if I could catch an additional fastpass for right then for anything good (since I'd used my 3 pre-booked ones already). The pixie dust continued: my eyes about popped out when I saw a fastpass for Seven Dwarves! I grabbed it and hustled on over to Fantasyland.
You are just having such a magical day....I love it!!

:welcome: Disney trip twins! Bummer we didn't see each other this trip, though that probably would have freaked my mom out (I haven't mentioned my disboards addiction! :D) Would have been worth it though. Oh well.

Club Level Lounge and Storybook Dining at Artist Point
Saturday February 9th (part 2)

Well, Mom beat me. But only by about five minutes. And I enjoyed the (windy) boat ride back to Wilderness Lodge, making friends with some of the families on the boat and their talkative children. As soon as the boat docked I raced by the pool back up into the lobby, and found Mom! Yay!

We hugged and I told her that we had gotten an upgrade to Club Level, and she was like "okay, sounds good". A bit underwhelming of a reaction, though to be fair, I'm pretty sure she was a bit tired from the flight and more importantly, had *no* idea what "club level" meant. Once I explained a bit further what that meant, she seemed a bit more excited. :)

We headed to the front desk, because Terri told me earlier that Mom and I needed to go to the desk to program our bands to let us in to the lounge, but we would have stopped by the desk anyways 'cause Mom needed a magic band and a birthday button. Terri had told us to ask for two CMs specifically, and luckily one was there, though he had no idea why we were asking for him specifically! I explained a bit and he jumped into action and was super helpful; he gave Mom a purple magic band and a birthday button with her name on it, but then the CM who was going to escort us up to the lounge arrived. And she was appalled by Mom's birthday button: her name was just too plain, no flourishes at all! So she wrote out a new button for Mom, with fancy lettering and hearts and flourishes. It was really sweet and funny. Mom kept saying no, but I think she secretly liked the attention. And at my urging, promptly and proudly put on the button. Yay!

The CM escorted us up the elevator and gave us a tour of the lounge area, though the food was closed for another 5/10 minutes or so while they set it up. We then headed to our room--room 7058. We loved it! I don't know what the view would be categorized as, but we could definitely see Space Mountain and if you strained, Astro Orbiter. And of course, it had the normal two queen beds. :) I loved all the rustic touches and just the personality of the room. We both loved the Ghiradellhi chocolates left on the bed though!

Characters in the shower!

I was unreasonably excited about the toiletries! Club Level comes with some fancy ones, including sunscreen (not fancy, but nice), aloe cooling gel, and softening mint foot rub. And even in the tub they still had the individual shampoo/conditioner/bodywash.

21sLF5s.jpg
58FyvcL.jpg

That foot rub came in super handy--Mom really liked it, and used it every morning.

About 5 minutes after we were in the room, the housekeeper knocked on the door and asked if we needed any extra toiletries, and essentially forced a whole extra set on us (forced/gave when I shamelessly asked...same thing, right?). She was so sweet! She also gave us more chocolates. Yum. :)

Mom had dropped her bags in the room and then immediately headed to the lounge for food (she hadn't eaten anything since before she'd gotten on the plane in Vegas, like 5 or 6 hours before) right when it opened. She came back a few minutes after the housekeeper stopped by, eating a shrimp cocktail. I swear guys, the shrimp cocktails in the lounge were one of the highlights of the trip: she said they were really good, and compared all the shrimp the rest of the trip to these, and I think these still came out ahead. I think this one she's eating in the picture is her 4th or 5th? A very enjoyable late lunch/snack for her. :) I was just happy to see her so happy.

P9Nc0Ip.jpg

I wanted to see this fabulous lounge food after Mom's rave review of the shrimp cocktail, so we both headed that way. (also you can kind of see Mom's button with the fancy writing on it in this picture! Thanks club level CM!)

I didn't grab a lot 'cause I didn't want to ruin my appetite for dinner in a little bit, but I did grab some cheeses and a PB&J shooter. The shooter was...interesting, but not really my favorite. We also grabbed some milks and dropped them back in the room fridge. I love milk. :) Mom had another shrimp cocktail.

At that point, it was a bit before 5:30, and our ADR at Storybook dining was at 6. Since we were doing Disney After Hours at Hollywood Studios that night, I wanted to arrive at the park at 7, to make the most of our time. So we decided to head to Artist Point right then and see if they could squeeze us in early.

Also look at this view--ridiculously gorgeous!
slrTmsc.jpg

The CM at the desk at Storybook Dining was super nice, and checked us in. She said it might be 10 or 15 minutes or so, so Mom and I decided to explore the resort a bit. We looked around the pool area outside and around the lobby a bit, and stopped for a quick restroom break, which is of course when we got the text that our table was ready! We got the text at 5:38pm, so it was probably a full 15 minute wait or so, but still 20 minutes before our ADR time. Not bad!

We were seated about 3 tables up from the entrance ramp, so not the best spot in the restaurant, but not horrible either.

X5SvAai.jpg

(Mom's "oh goodness why are you taking my picture! here's my forced smile!" face)

We had these apples tied around the napkins with the autographs from all the characters, but our server did say that they would still sign stuff if we brought anything, so that was a relief, as I had a picture I wanted them to sign.
2flErIX.jpg

Our server was great--very friendly. She was also from Shanghai, which Mom thought was neat. Mom lived for a year and a half in Taiwan when she was younger, so she used to speak Mandarin, and has recently (in the last year or so) been using Duolingo to refresh/remember her Mandarin. So I encouraged Mom to speak to our server in Mandarin--it took a bit of encouragement, but eventually Mom got up her courage (she's a bit insecure about her speaking skills), and our sweet server just got so excited and practically fawned over Mom, even calling over her manager to say that Mom spoke to her "in my language!" It really made Mom feel good, and the CM seemed excited to speak a little bit of her own language. It was really fun! And again, I was grateful for the CM to be so enthusiastic and kind about Mom speaking Mandarin and to speak with her a bit, rather than brushing her off or something. Can you tell I was worried about Mom having a good time? I needn't have worried, all these fun little things.

Anyways, the food! The appetizers were brought out pretty quickly:

9rlEXOd.jpg

I didn't get a picture of the Wicked Shrimp Cocktail, 'cause Mom appropriated it pretty much immediately. She liked it, but said the shrimp cocktail from the lounge was better. I liked the soup, but it was spicy! I wasn't expecting the kick, but it was still good. The hunter's pie was fine, nothing special, but fine.

For entrees, I steered Mom away from the prime rib (all the reviews have said it's super fatty and a weird smoky flavor), so she got the Cottage Seafood Stew, and I got the Butternut Squash Gnocchi. They were good! Mom doesn't really like mussels but she liked the mussels in the stew, and my gnocchi was also delicious. Maybe not the best bang for our prix-fixe buck, but very yummy. The portions were really big so we didn't finish them (especially not after the pre-dinner snacks at the lounge), but very delicious.
Whc3Xy6.jpg
t7rSJyt.jpg

The desserts were fine, but again nothing spectacular. I don't really have a strong memory of the desserts, which supports my "fine but nothing spectacular" assessment. :)

Even the end dessert with the dry ice was cool, but nothing amazing tastewise. But that presentation does make up for a lot.
bHXNiLR.jpg

The real star of this meal, as it is with most character meals, is the characters! Again, I was a bit worried how Mom would feel interacting with the characters (I say this as an awkward adult), but we had really good interactions! Snow White was sweet, and wished Mom a happy birthday:
tvbJIPX.jpg
zvMp0fM.jpg

Dopey was super cute. He also wished Mom a happy birthday and even gave her a kiss.
rhx0Da4.jpg
8D5Hpdy.jpg

Grumpy and the Queen were my favorites though. Grumpy had Mom in stitches, as he lived up to his name.
tjSyf6W.jpg
ps29ApW.jpg

Grumpy was being petulant about signing my picture, so I said that if he signed I'd be sure to tell Snow White how helpful and kind he was and she might give him another kiss. He perked right up and eagerly signed my picture after that! He was funny.

0ugoZ4W.jpg
xil5P6G.jpg

Grumpy was our last meet at the table, and by that point Mom was feeling a bit more comfortable, which set the stage for a great interaction with the Evil Queen. Mom basically went head to head with the Evil Queen about who was older and therefore wiser. The Queen wasn't breaking and Mom just kept giving it to her about how she [Mom] was older and how the Queen should respect her and the Queen just wasn't having it. I was cracking up. It was a fantastic interaction.
Z4zVN2T.jpg

Mom has her chin up and is basically saying "I'm right"...I'm just watching to see which one of them is going to come out ahead.

Z6CYnDv.jpg

As we left Mom just kept commenting how impressed she was with the characters, about how good they were (like how good the people were playing them) with never breaking and always having answers ready. She kept laughing about the Evil Queen's evil/stern personality.

So overall the food was good (especially the gnocchi) but really the characters made this meal. It was a fantastic meal and such fun character interactions, even (or perhaps especially) for people who are a bit nervous or awkward about interacting with characters. I highly highly recommend it. It really set a fun tone for our night, as we headed to the bus stop to catch the bus to Hollywood Studios.

Up next, Disney After Hours at Hollywood Studios! Will we be rained out, like it was predicted, and have a bust of a night, or will it be dry? Tune in next time for the resolution to this (very slight) cliffhanger. :D

It sounds like your Storybook dining was great! I love your character interactions. So fun! I'm really debating booking this meal to close out our Sept trip, and paying OOP, but the menu is holding me back. I really don't think my picky family will like the menu :(. So, I'm on the fence. My ADR day is next week, so we'll see what I do!

Joining in!!

How exciting to get moved into Club Level! That reminds me that I need to call Disney and add my Moms birthday to our reservation haha because you just never know! (Although I know we won't get anything hahaha)

I'm so glad your Mom enjoyed Artist Point! Its so funny how the planner always stresses about everyone else having a good time because I am the same way!! I had the gnocchi too and I thought it was super delicious!!

Great dining experience, we recently did this and loved it! Score on the club level, yummy shrimp cocktail. I’m with your mom, I love shrimp cocktail!

Anxious to hear about the DAH, we have done MK 3x!

Book it! This one was surprisingly difficult to get, so I'd book it just so you have the option. And then maybe show the family some of the vlogs (Tim Tracker went there, as well as Disney Food Blog, I think) and see if you can't suck them in that way? :) It is almost worth it just for the queen alone. :)

:welcome: Do it! You never know how that birthday pixie dust goes--I didn't get a whole lot on my birthday last year but Mom was spoiled rotten. Maybe your mom will get lucky too? :)

Right? Us poor planners...though to be fair to my mom she did say she'd be happy to just follow me along wherever I booked and she was true to her word, no complaining about what was planned. But you know, you want them to love it!

And yes, that gnocchi...dang I really want some now!

What an amazing start to your trip! I'm hoping the rest is as magical as the first day is!
:welcome: Thanks! The magic did indeed continue, though nothing quite as grand as a club upgrade! :goodvibes

Nice TR so far ~weird though that I can't see a lot of your photos.
Oh weird! I wonder why? I use imgur to host all the photos, so it's weird that you'd be able to see some and not others...I wonder if anyone else is having trouble seeing them? I've tried looking at them using another browser but they all show up for me....hmmm...I'll have to keep looking at it.

Oh, so glad you enjoyed it! It's a great meal. :) LOL I don't like shrimp cocktail at all so I'll have to take your (and my mom's) word for it! :D

Oooh, I'll be honest, I think I did end up liking MK DAH a bit more, but we had a fantastic time at HS....

As usual, I am loving your TR! What a fun time for you and your Mom. WL is awesome, isn't it? I haven't stayed there, I'm too cheap, but love wandering around and enjoying the different restaurants. However, on our next trip, we are going to stay at the Poly for 3 nights and not do parks those days. Just enjoy everything non-park WDW has to offer. We are morning to night when in the parks so this makes sense for us.
Looking forward to hearing about your HS DAH. Might give that a try on our next visit.
At first some of your pictures didn't come through for me, either. But I refreshed and there they were!

Those do look great! I wish I could convince my work to let me upgrade my phone ahead of time so I would have a good camera for Asia!

I have always wanted to stay at WL, it's on my bucket list. Love the pics! looks like you are off to a fantastic start.
:welcome: I hope you get a chance--it's a lovely resort! :)

WL is gorgeous! I only stayed here 'cause I got a good deal on Priceline, cause otherwise, I'm with you--too expensive! But the Poly!! How exciting!! I'm so happy for you. :)

Weird about the pictures--glad they popped up after you refreshed!

:welcome: Thanks! Good luck convincing your work--I didn't think I wanted a new phone but now that I have it.... And Asia! It's essentially a need at this point, right? :)

Disney After Hours: Hollywood Studios
Saturday February 9th (part 3)

I left off with Mom and I heading to Hollywood Studios for Disney After Hours. We decided to take the bus (though I wasn't opposed to taking an uber if necessary), and had amazing bus luck: a bus pulled up one minute after we got there. We made one quick stop at the Contemporary and then were on our way to Hollywood Studios. That was nice, since we all know how Disney bus transport can be...

giphy.gif

The forecast for the night called for showers, but the time it would start raining kept changing (and I hadn't yet figured out that I should pull up the radar and watch the weather on there; I was just using the "weather" app on my phone), so we decided to just hope for the best. Foolish mortals...

Anyways, once we arrived, we checked in and got our wristbands (no more lanyards, apparently; bummer), and headed back to Toy Story Land! I had been refreshing the Disney app sporadically throughout the afternoon/evening, and managed to score an evening fastpass for Slinky Dog Dash! I almost let it go, but figured that having a fastpass would mean that we could spend our Disney After Hours time elsewhere, rather than waiting in line for Slinky. So I grabbed it. Bwahahahaha :)

I had fun pointing out all the fun touches in the queue to Mom, and before we knew it we were riding away. Mom was fooled by the launch in the middle, asking "is that it?!" Can you imagine? That would be an even shorter coaster than SDMT!
xFJMHdW.jpg

After Slinky, I tried to get us another fastpass for one of the Toy Story Land rides and realized that I couldn't, 'cause Mom hadn't used her tier two fastpasses! Oh well. It was 7:30 at that point and I figured we could try to ride the remaining Toy Story Land rides via standby before the event actually started. So we headed over to Alien Swirling Saucers, posting a 20 minute wait, and indeed it was a full 20 minute wait. Not too bad though--Mom and I made friends with some kids in line as well as talking to each other and catching up. Once on the ride, we enjoyed the part where we get whipped around, but Mom thought it was too short. I agree! Though I don't agree with that when I'm waiting in line... :)

At that point it was about 5 minutes to 8, and we headed for Toy Story Mania. It was also posting a 20 minute wait, but it was a literal walk-on. No waiting at all! And bonus: this was the first time I'd gone through the standby line for Toy Story Mania and so Mom and I got to see the Potato Head animatronic! He's fun, though a bit quiet when there is no one in line for him to interact with.
tWWoBxt.jpg
mOmTmY8.jpg

As for Toy Story Mania, I won! :) And even riding at park close STILL didn't get best in car. Some day...some day!
e1AxMnV.jpg

Elated by finishing Toy Story Land before Disney After Hours officially started, we headed out of TSL (getting some pictures on the way...) and down Sunset Boulevard for Tower of Terror and RocknRoller Coaster. Mom and I are both thrill ride fans, so I was pretty psyched for low waits and to be able to ride these rides with someone, since Trevor won't ride them with me. However I got sidetracked by the Pixar gift shop on Sunset Boulevard. I ended up buying the Up puzzle...it's currently being put together on our coffee table, though the stupid cat keeps walking on it... Boo... I also bought a big Hollywood Studios reusable bag that ended up coming in SUPER handy for stashing popcorn and soda and water. :)
7zM5PnB.jpg
lNfT1Um.jpg

Shopping done, it was time for Tower of Terror! They were still running the pre-show at this point, which actually worked out really well since Mom had never ridden it before. And then we ended up on our own elevator! Score!
VcvhFpF.jpg

Mom loved this ride--she loved the feeling of "flying" from the freefall. Her thing was flapping her arms like she was flying. My thing was laughing with/at her. :D When our first ride ended we asked the CMs if we could ride again and they graciously took us up the chicken exit so we could ride again. The second time we were riding while the fireworks were going, which was an amazing experience! I highly recommend that view of the fireworks, if possible. You can see Mom pointing at them in the photo.
2bBbNzi.jpg

After our first two rides, we rewarded ourselves with ice cream and water and got in line for Rock'n'Roller Coaster. I realized this was my first time ever going through the standby line for RNRC--I had no idea it wrapped around like it did! No preshow here, which was nice. Also, I really like the laid back vibe of Disney After Hours. The CMs were definitely checking wristbands but they seemed happy and relaxed and it was nice to see them not stressed or tense.
d9OLWj9.jpg

We rode RNRC twice in a row, once in the front, and then once in the back (no special back way to get back in line here, had to go out the exit and back around). I know people like the back but both Mom and I preferred the front--it's smoother! (Also the ladies in front of us on the second ride did an awesome photo :D)
D3zFgRW.jpg

We then decided to go back to Tower of Terror, where we rode twice in a row again. No pre-show this time! Yet again we got our own elevator on the first ride and so had no shame asking to re-ride without going all the way back around.
Dp94En9.jpg

(Mom is flapping her wings again!)

WHCtEWF.jpg

(More people doing fun poses! I only noticed this one right now!)

After rides #3 and #4 on Tower of Terror, we got popcorn and more ice cream, then decided to venture out into the park a bit more. It had started sprinkling a bit, but there was a photographer out in front of the Chinese Theatre, so we got a photo. It wasn't great. Oh well! I also bought the alien popcorn bucket from the popcorn stand there, and this may be my favorite souvenir purchase of all time: that alien mouth cracks me up. :)
sNEjHJT.jpg

We then kept going towards Star Tours, which was happily no wait. I don't remember how the conversation started, but Mom and I ended up chatting with the CM there and talking about how it was Mom's first time to WDW, first time on Star Wars, and we were celebrating her 60th birthday. The CM was really friendly--again, happy relaxed CMs really make Disney After Hours have a different vibe than the regular park days. But I'll admit I had a bit of an ulterior motive for engaging with the CM--I was hoping to get Mom picked as the Rebel Spy! Was I successful?

9rinqOu.jpg

Yes! I was prepared and got a picture, but hilariously, Mom didn't realize they were projecting up a picture of her (despite my nudging), so when I told her that she was the rebel spy, she kept saying "No I'm not! I'm not!". She only believed me after the ride was over and I showed her the picture! Cracked me up. And while we (OF COURSE) ended our Star Tours ride on Naboo ('cause I swear it's always *always* Naboo), we got the Wookiee planet first, so not a horrible ride.

With Star Tours done, we'd essentially ridden everything in the park. It was about halfway through the event, so we decided to head back to Toy Story Land. It was still sprinkling, and that combined with the event being halfway done, would hopefully make for short lines at Slinky. Luckily, it was! The line was posted at 10 minutes, but it was pretty close to a walk on. Maybe 5 minute wait? Sprinkles of rain feel like pins or needles when you're getting rained on while on a coaster! I just realized I don't have a ride photo from this ride...oh well. It probably wasn't a great photo anyways, with the rain!

As we headed back towards Sunset Boulevard, we got more ice cream (I was bound and determined to get my money's worth out of food from this event!) and they were running DIsney Movie Magic again (I think they ran it twice during the event), so since the rain had lightened up, we sat down and watched the end of it. It was a nice break, and there was hardly anyone there in the Courtyard.

I made Mom stop for a picture...or several. She's giving me her fake "I'm smiling for a photo" smile, but the next picture (where I have a half-eaten Mickey premium bar) is one of my favorites from the whole trip, simply because it's Mom's real smile. I look silly, but hey, worth it. :D

We rode RNRC twice more.

Then Tower of Terror twice more (first time the elevator was just us two, so we got a re-ride without having to go all the way back around). And this is where the trip report title comes in.

You see that gentleman in the front of our the elevator? He told Mom that you catch more air if you keep your seatbelt loose. This blew Mom's mind--she loved the flying feeling--and she wanted to try it immediately. We headed back around (the normal way this time) and while putting our seatbelts on, Mom forgot to hold the seatbelt loose so it wouldn't automatically tighten. So she asks the CM if he can please reset the seatbelts 'cause she wants to keep her's loose. He looks at her like she's crazy and is basically like "um no, can't do that, cause you know, safety" Mom's response: "But then I can't fly!" The CM: "Coooo--rrect!" and he immediately shuts the elevator door and starts the ride. Mom and I were both *dying* laughing the entire ride--the CM's delivery was just deadpan perfect. "Coooo-rrect!" *slam* Mom still didn't have a loose seatbelt, but worth it. And yes, we totally quoted "Coooooo--rrect" to each other the entire trip.

We went back around to ride Tower of Terror again and this time Mom was sneaky and kept her seatbelt loose, but for the first time all night it was a completely full elevator and per Mom, you don't fly as high when the elevator is full, so it was a moot point. I didn't notice a difference, but then I'm not a connoisseur like Mom. I was honestly still laughing over "Coooo--rrect" and then the irony of the the ride being a full elevator. Mom was a bit put out that the one time she was ready and able to try it with a loose seatbelt the elevator was full.

The event was almost over, so we decided to ride Slinky one more time if it wasn't raining. Luckily it wasn't as we made our way up there, and on the ride (hardly any wait at all at this point).

But as we got off and started heading towards the exit, it started POURING. Absolutely pouring. We got soaked! But hey, if it's going to happen, happening on our way out of the park is the way to go! I totally made Mom stop for a picture to document the occasion.

Our bus luck continued: we got to the bus stop right as a bus pulled up at 11:35, and at 11:37 we left, heading to Wilderness Lodge. I think the bus was going to other stops too, but Wilderness Lodge was first. Back at the hotel we settled down and got ready for bed, but look at this view! Gorgeous. The rain continued, as you can kind of see.

So yea, that was day 1! All the pixie dust, and just a fantastic day all around. Mom and I absolutely loved Disney After Hours: riding whatever we wanted with no lines, and the despite the occasional sprinkles throughout the night, the rain held off 'til the night was over. Side note: having done Disney After Hours at both the Magic Kingdom (with Trevor, last September) and Hollywood Studios, I think I like the MK event just a little bit better, but then I like MK as a park a bit better. There aren't a lot of rides at Hollywood and that becomes super apparent when there are no lines for anything, and the atmosphere at MK is better. But MK only wins by a hair: you can't put a price on having your own elevator multiple times at Tower of Terror, and we had some great CMs all night. One of the CMs at Tower of Terror was totally in character and pretended the elevator was full, even thought it was only Mom and I. He loaded each row (even though they were all empty) and did the whole safety check, asking (non-existent) Jeffrey to put his seatbelt on from left to right "no, your other left" and to raise his hands "raise your hands Jeffrey. All the way. I can wait. I'll wait.......... Thank you Jeffrey". I realize it's not super funny written out, but in person, his delivery was spot on--it was great. If you're thinking about doing Disney After Hours, I recommend it wholeheartedly! Honestly, I think it spoiled Mom a bit for the rest of the trip. #worthit

What an amazing day with your fun dining experience and then HS DAH. LOVE how rode ToT back to back so many times like that. And barely waited for Slinky! And Toy Story! Definitely got your money's worth! Your Mom is a hoot. How cool she loves the crazy rides just like you.

That's one hell of a first day, wow!

It's my partners family first visit to WDW in August, I'm going to surprise her with the pin at check in and see what else I can squeeze in.

Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your trip :)
