How much would you pay for a SWL ride?

"Heavily considered..." Hmmm...:scratchin

I'm not sure but I just looked in my SWGE envelope, and I only have a couple of hundred bucks in there. That's not a lot of cheddar and things are starting to get real! I think I need to get going if I'm going to get in the gate...:rotfl:

So, I've never been to DL so I don't have any experience with MaxPass and how it works overall, but this sounds interesting...does that mean that they will allot more SWGE FPs for the paid option than the unpaid?

For the Disneyland Resort, paid FastPass would be built into the existing MaxPass system as a premium choice, allowing you to upgrade with a click-and-buy option to skip the line. Walt Disney World management has reportedly indicated that a “significant portion of FastPasses will be allocated for monetization”.

I only found some spare change in mine!

But yeah, you just plucked out the portion of that article I found most alarming.

I feel like they are making some leaps of logic to get to their conclusions. I still will be very surprised if they get to the point where you can pay $XX for a specific FP for these rides

Now, there is the extra FP you can pay for if you stay club level and I expect hard ticket events and things like the "nights of adventure" tour they do at AK which will all be, in effect, a way to pay for a "FP" for the rides - and why Disney Execs have to be coy about it

Except the article is about Disneyland. And they don't have a club level purchase option. Only MaxPass, which is nothing more than an electronic FP.

Again, I'm fairly uninformed about DL but I don't fully understand how it would work in the MaxPass system - it seems like the STGE FPs would be at a premium. I was more expecting upcharge events like @TheMaxRebo mentioned...

I can totally see them doing this 100%

The fact of the matter is it's going to be almost impossible to get FP+ for these 2 rides for months probably years. Add 3-5 hour wait times, I can see them adding this pay to ride feature.

Now that being said,... if I pay extra am I going to be GUARANTEED to get on these 2 rides without waiting? That is what I really want to know. I am not paying unless I am guaranteed.

I'm sure there will still be upcharge events.

Hopefully this is just a trial balloon that gets shot down quickly.

Maxpass is currently $15/day per person. It merely lets you schedule your FPs on the app (instead of in person like legacy FP). No prescheduling. Ticket has to be scanned at the gate before you can get one.

true (I was thinking across both coasts options) - and I know there was a rumor when GE was first announced that you would have to have MaxPass to access the FP for the rides - so in effect there would be a charge to access the FP (either per day or as part of your AP) without it being an explicit Pay $X per ride

Even that would be bad for DL. Once everyone is on MaxPass it ceases to be the same great program it is now. Because once people have it to access SWL, they'll have it to access everything else. I really don't think DLR has the FP inventory to support that.

I can't say I'm surprised that it's a consideration.

Still, reading the article, the headline makes it sound worse than it is.

These paid FastPasses would not replace the option of obtaining the reservations through the existing means, so don’t worry, you won’t HAVE to buy one to get a FastPass should this all come to pass, but it will certainly be much easier to do so.

So you can pay for extras. This doesn't sound much different than their upcharge options like DAH or EMM.

Except the article also says a significant portion of the FP inventory would be used for this. So the number of "free" fastpasses would be greatly diminished for these very high demand attractions.

I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but I hope they do this for a portion of the FP - before I get yelled at, I didn't say ALL, but some. We're (family of 4) going to WDW this September and will miss Galaxy's Edge, so my husband and I are taking an adult-only trip in May 2020 specifically for SW:GE. We had planned to book Club level just so we could pay the extra $50/day and have the 90-day window to have better chances of getting FP to the rides. If I don't need to book Club Level rates plus the extra, I would totally pay for FP this way, and I bet there are others who will do the same.

If they don't do paid FP I certainly agree they will do EMM or After Hours and we'll buy those instead.

I too am hoping for some sort of Hard Ticket extra hours event - that is my thinking for how we will do the Land and get to experience it with (somewhat) reduced crowds. And then we just factor that extra cost into our budgeting for the trip

I think I am very excited for the Land itself so I would rather pay one lump sum of extra $ to get the full experience vs going during the day and paying extra for the rides or something like that

I am sure there are many people who have your same opinion and Disney knows this and Disney knows people will pay for this options which is why I def think they will do it.

In the end Disney wants to make money and if they think they will make money on this they will do it.

If I was guaranteed a FP+ for the rides, then yes, I would pay for them, and I'm sure they would sell out fast.
I am dreading the opening of SWGE and am very unhappy about it, but I still want to experience every step of WDW, so I will suck it up and ride the rides.

DVC has reduced our budget needed for "rooms" to fairly insignificant at most. DVC AP has kept our "per day" hopper cost low as well.

So I think at first we would be willing to spend a lot for these new attractions.

Then if they are not that great we would stop.

So a necessary splurge on a CL stay, Star Wars Hotel stay, or after hours event or even an out right FP purchase would be doable.

One benefit / additional element I could see if they separate out FP for these rides (be it to pay just for them or just separate in MaxPass vs other rides, etc) is Disney could then sell packages

"Now you and your family can take the ultimate vacation int he Galaxy .... the new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge package includes your room, park tickets, dining, and guaranteed access to the newest and most incredible attractions Disney has to offer!!!!"
