Paid FP options coming soon to WDW?

But people have been saying this was imminent FOREVER.

And SO FAR, every time they do something and people begin with the doom and gloom predictions, the trajectory of the parks continues to trend upward (with predictable bumps during economic downturns that would happen regardless).

If they've overshot with this, they can tweak or reverse. Nothing irreversible here.

This is unlike any change they've put forward since I've been coming back. This isn't some add on party or additional parking fee (things you can potentially avoid). This fundamentally changes the way parks are toured. That's not a simple switch.

As has been said, it's easier to keep customers than to try and win them back.

Also - here is the post that started the WDW Magic thread:
"I was scrolling one of the DVC member newsfeeds this morning on Facebook and someone dropped on instagram how her and her family were able to do multiple FOP rides in one day due to something new that was coming out in May, but she couldn't go into detail just yet."

There is so much wrong with this I don't know where to start. Someone did this but they don't have it yet? They're telling random people and trying something out that no one else has heard of? This is classic someone misunderstood something someone said. At most this sounds like the most likely thing would be expansion of the club level trial.

I would guess...
  • Still a 60-day window or SOME advantage wrt booking Fps -- that still has A LOT of value -- and this is consistent with what Martin in WDWMagic is saying
And my other reasons...
  • Proximity
  • Views
  • EMH
  • Not leaving the bubble
Not every resort at WDW has close proximity or a view.

EMH has been watered down with many thousands of offsite guests.

Not leaving the bubble and transportation are about all that's left. It's getting harder and harder to justify the onsite surcharge.

This has been said by a group of people with nearly EVERY change over the years. Truly.

They don't have to win them back. They replace them.

Yeah... but you can get 60 days at several other hotels now... and are those last 4 really worth thousands of dollars more (if you're going with proximity and view then you would be in a deluxe, of which many are outrageously priced)? Obviously lots of people answer "yes" to that question, otherwise they wouldn't be able to charge 600 a night at the Poly, but it's a no from me. It's worth maybe discounted mod prices at best to me...

I stay where I can walk to MK and get a view. We still enjoy EMH. And the bubble is a huge deal to us.

This is all personal, obviously.

But again -- if Disney has dialed this wrong, they can dial it back.

They've deliberately sought to decrease number of guests and increase per guest spend -- and have been succeeding at the latter from what I gather. This move is consistent with that strategy. Doesn't mean everyone should like it. Disney is probably counting on some NOT liking it. ;)

Yep. Transportation is the big reason for me to stay onsite. We have rarely used EMH.

When we decide to return in the future we would probably be driving. We are thinking we would stay offsite from that point on.

Our answer is yes. And at the rate that Disney is building hotels, I think they think enough people agree.

If they're wrong, they can tweak any of this. Nothing permanent.

Read his response on page 1 or 2 about this when he was asked.

I understand that you don’t want to believe it’s coming. I don’t either. But his track record is nearly flawless and his contacts are hardly a random CM. The fact that he suddenly dropped this means the change is coming soon.

Well if it's coming soon my guess it'll be right after they start cancelling all the fastpasses from those cancelled reservations that we were reading about last week . . . .

I know, that's what people have been saying, and it's still true. It goes to my point that this is the biggest change (albeit rumored) to come down from Mt. Disney. I couldn't guarantee you this will drive "enough" people away to make a dent, but it sure looks like it's going to drive me away, and I don't think I'm unique in that opinion.

There's no way we personally will pay Disney Paris's Ultimate FastPass nor Universal type Express Pass prices. For 6 days in the park, times 4 people, at the low season price, the Paris Ultimate Pass would run us another $3600 + and that's just not happening.

We'll wait and see what happens, but we simply won't be forking over that much money for something that is currently free. Luckily for us, we're not very ride-oriented Disney-goers. We don't really care what rides we go on, or how many. We enjoy a lot of the non-ride aspects of Disney. Plus we go at a time of year that tends to have shorter lines for more of the non-headliners, which means we still get to hit several rides, even without FPs. Now, if more people opt not to use FPs, lines could get longer, but we'll take the chance. Disney would be stupid to put something in place that would keep more people in line longer, since we can't spend money while in line, so I am going to remain optimistic for now that whatever they do, it won't make the stand-by lines significantly longer than they currently are.

The original post on that thread is not the specifics of this rumor. Read the rest of the thread.

Our entire upcoming trip is expected run use about $8K. I'm not paying almost half of that just for daily fast passes.

I know nothing of DLP but is it more like a Six Flags thing, in that most visitors only go for a day not a week?
