Luck and Hard Work - March 2019 W.I.S.H. Goals

:drinking:Hello all,
I’m so glad I found all of you! What an inspiration you are! I’ve spent today reading the boards and I hope it’s not too late to join in to your group. We are planning to bring one of the grands and her mom to WDW in...MAY. AS IN TWO MONTHS!!! o_O I have never planned a Disney trip this fast. And I’m really out of shape. So my goals will need to be pretty high and definitely measurable!
For this week, I’m planning to:
1) cook our meals at home, including breakfast and lunch (saves money, too!)
2) increase walking by 100 steps every day. I’m walking about 5000 but not consistently.
3) drink the water!! I used to be so good at this, and I fell away for years. 64 ounces, hear I come.

I also need to walk outside. We live in south Texas and I have to get acclimated to the heat again. We’ve had, for us, (I know, I know)...a weird winter with some very cold days mixed in with warm.
Welcome to the group! And great pre-trip goals.

Hehe!!! Add a crushable brown fisherman's hat, and that's me!!!

I saw a pic today from my supervisors hike in New Zealand a few weeks ago and she had floppy hat and hiking poles - so there you go it definitely seems like the equipment you need. I am so looking forward to seeing a few pics from the beautiful scenery of your hikes :-)

This is going to sound funny, but I cleaned out the medicine cabinet this weekend and threw away some antacid tablets and painkillers that were really expired. I realized since we eat better and get some exercise (not enough, but I’m working on that!) we just feel better. And I feel lucky in the sense I can get around without any discomfort and fit into my clothes-and I like when my daughter throws away a catalog because she says the clothes are too old for me!- and I hope to be able to for years to come.

That is AMAZING - it is wonderful that you don't need that medication and fitting into more stylish clothing! I am looking forward to getting back into clothes that feel like me and not just what kind of looks ok but fits.

I’m so glad I found all of you!

:welcome: So glad to have you along to chat :-)

I've read that classifying foods as "good" or "bad" is actually detrimental to an overall healthy diet. - What do you think?

@Piglet 1979, I hope she feels better soon! My pediatrician used to call them fevers of unknown origin when there wasn’t an explanation like strep or an ear infection.

Thank you! She is still running a fever. I took her to the Dr. yesterday and they think it is just a virus though they are having a urine sample cultured to check for an UTI just to be make sure because her back hurts. She is going about 12 hrs between fevers so I am hoping this is the end of it. I am running on fumes right now since I have been getting up at night and staying up late to check her temp. Motrin is taking about 2 hours to kick in so an hour after meds on Sunday night her temp jumped to 103. She is being proactive though. After she got the temp in the middle of the day yesterday she emailed her teachers to let them know and to get work she would miss today.

I tend to be a very "grey" person and hardly ever see anything as black and white only. While I do think there are definitely foods that are better for you and other foods that are not so good for you, I do believe that it's okay to indulge every now and then. But I can see that it could be detrimental if you are very black and white. I have seen it with my husband. He'll decide to go on a diet and only eat foods that are good for you. But then he misses his "bad" foods to the point where he just gives up and goes off his diet. I guess it would depend a little on your personality.

Sounds like the virus is hopefully almost gone. What a good student she is! I know it's hard to miss a lot of school, especially because of the fever that just lingers. Hang in there, mama! And try to get rest, so you don't end up with the virus next ;)

I’m with MickeyMom76 on this-of course there are foods we should limit, but eating healthy isn’t just broccoli and plain chicken breasts. I never understood the concept of a “cheat” day-if you feel the need to cheat you’re not eating in a way that you’ll sustain when you have lost the weight. And the occasional higher calorie indulgence can fit into a healthy diet.

It think its because you then extend it to viewing yourself as 'bad' when choose to eat the 'bad' foods. I agree with the others we all know there are foods that are less than great nutrient wise but are just so tasty they draw us in. Also, the other aspect of this is that the 'experts' seem to work in a cyclical manner where they tell us certain foods are bad and no good for us ... only years later for them to say oh no we got that wrong we should have been eating that all along.

It's "Woohoo Wednesday" Everyone!! - What are you proud of this week?

I am woohooing that I should be getting a pay raise in the next few weeks after applying to be recognised as having senior experience after being in my role for 6 years. It is supported by my supervisor - so now just waiting on the official sign off.

I’m woohooing that I ordered new tennis shoes and I think, after searching for three years, I finally found some that fit! I have plantar fasciitis and it’s a real problem. Maybe now I can get out and walk in preparation for our trip!

That's excellent!! My DH is prone to blisters, so I get how finding perfect shoes is a major win!

With St. Patrick's Day coming on Sunday, have you had a moment of Leprechaun luck this week?

I think I've had more Leprechaun mischief than luck in my classroom. :upsidedow Perhaps they are starting to get spring fever.

But in terms of luck, our new windows are supposed to arrive tomorrow. We used a friend who could get us a discounted price on the windows and a neighbor really recommended them. What she forgot to say is that he kind of drags his feet and you really need to keep reminding him to do things (get us a quote, order the windows, have them delivered, etc). So these are windows that I thought were going to be installed the first week of January. So I guess we are lucky they are finally coming tomorrow! And hopefully, we'll be lucky enough to get the installer to come out next week. :shamrock:
