Hey Pin Traders

I am a pin collector. Your video about Pin collecting was great. I am buying more from Universal these days. But the video has reinvigorated my affection for Disney pins.

I love Epcot pins, Lost attractions (Horizons, 20,000 Leagues), Star Wars and Festival pins. I also have a growing collection of Harry Potter.

Glad to see you on the DIS. Watched some of your videos after your 1st Dis show

I got my kids into pin collecting last year. Actually, that was what my oldest spent most of her souvenir $ on. They loved talking to the CMs and picking out pins. My DD6 somehow managed to snag extra pins off of a couple CMs. She would tell them her favorite one or two and more often than not, the child would get both, not ask for both but the CM would hand her both. It was very sweet.

I don't trade but I had fun helping the kids do it. DD10 was mostly looking for Figment and Chip & Dale.

That’s awesome and I really appreciate it!! I love tracking down pins of retired attractions, those “piece of Disney history” pins are some of my favorite. They have a little piece of the attraction inside of it, super cool :)

Oh I can relate to that!! Haha, when I was growing up that’s what I spent every dime I brought to the parks on!

Hi Corey! Dh and I have been collecting pins for 30+ years. My collections are too numerous to mention. I have about 52 pin binders on our bookshelves! But, some of my favorite collections are restaurants, food, hotels and Christmas. (Before pins really came out in force, we collected buttons and have jars and jars of those from the old days!)

I've been collecting pins since pin collecting first began when I was a Freshman in High School. I have always been a fan of buttons and badges (I was the button purse girl in HS with a Dickey bag covered in buttons including the strap that I still have in my closet). It was super exciting when I could combine my love of pins with Disney. Almost all of my vacation spending money for souvenirs goes to pins these days. I usually look for limited edition and limited run pins first, love collecting ride specific pins (I have the most for Haunted Mansion and my biggest pin splurge was on a 110 dollar Haunted Mansion 45th Anniversary pin at Disneyland a few years back) and have a lot of Peter Pan and Nightmare Before Christmas character pins. I also try to get a resort pin for each resort I happen to be staying at. I also don't trade because I usually pick out pins I want to keep, are limited edition, or are only available for special events (like Run Disney). I got my husband into pin collecting on his first visit (so much so that he bought a Star Wars starter lanyard before we even left the Orlando airport), but he mostly collects Star Wars and one or two of his favorite characters. I keep almost all of my pins in a clear topped coffee table that I got ages ago at an Ikea. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when it eventually falls apart.

I loved your video showing Pete how to start a pin collection, any idea if he's keeping it up?

Cruise Line Pins. figured out pretty early on that I would need to have a focus for my collecting and since we love DCL that is what I collect. have been collecting for several years now and have a pretty nice group of pins

I trade, but I don't collect. On my last visit I told a CM my method to trading and she thought it was interesting, so here goes-when I'm in a park one day, I bring the pins that seem to "belong" in that park. Then I trade for pins that look like they "belong" in the park I'm going to the next day. For example, the day I'm going to MK, I bring Dumbo, Princesses like Cinderella, Tinkerbelle, etc. Assuming I plan to go to AK the next day, I look for "Up", Kilimanjaro Safari, Lion King, etc. Of course, if I have no idea where I'm going the next day, it's a little more challenging. I guess you could say I'm "bringing the pins to their homes".

I've been collecting for about 14 years, but have gone off/on several times.

I collect Pooh, UP, orange bird, vintage things (like Piece of History as well), some Mickey and dogs/cats.

I trade at events, but I haven't traded much in the parks lately with the influx of fakes.

I just started with pins on our trip to WDW last week. It was fun tracking down pins at the parks and Disney springs! I even found a cast member with pins at the Disney store at the airport.

I am trying to focus on Goofy and Grumpy, but was distracted by some others :D

I collect Peter Pan, Tinkerbell and the Disney hotel pins. I started collecting in 2010. I only visit Disneyland California once a year and my collection was given a boost for the first few years by a very kind CM friend who would trade pins for me during the year between my visits. She found me tons of rare pins which I would never have found.

My kids have done pin trading for a few years now and they collect whatever jumps out at them. Every once in awhile a whole series will jump out at them and then they will try to get them all. My husband and I will dabble in trading because the kids always want us to join but it is also fun. I personally like the monorail pins, you know the ones that are just the shape monorail and each are a different color (not the circle ones). Not sure why but those tend to be my favorites...and hard to come by too.

I really liked your video on pin trading! I collected as a kid and now my own child is collecting. For him right now, it's about what he likes in the moment but that might change as he gets older.
When you were talking about fake pins it made me a bit nervous....are they really easy to spot? is there a certain thing that you look at right away or that might be an obvious sign, when you are trading?

Fun post! My sister and I were introduced to pin trading by our cousin some years ago. We live in Ohio, so we started buying and collecting pins (Disney Store, got them for presents, etc.). What a fun hobby . . . and a collection can sure grow quickly! We finally went down to visit family in December 2018, and that was our first time actually trading. We spent two days at Disney Springs trading and had an amazing time! Just got back from another visit, and we ended up going with various family to Disney Springs on six different days! It was the best!!!

Someone posted above about their "special" method of trading appropriate pins at the different parks. That's fun, because we did that! We had Star Wars all separated and traded those to all the employees in the Star Wars store, and the Nightmare Before Christmas pins traded to the employees in the Christmas store, etc. :) My sister and I also loaded six lanyards with our trader pins (boy, those are heavy) and we would trade with any kids that wanted to trade. They could pick any pin and trade us any pin they wanted to trade. We just wanted to give kids a chance to trade with people who wouldn't be rude to them or scaring them with "value for value" assessment of their pins. It was really fun to see what a difference it made to the little kids, when someone actually offered them the chance to trade for anything they saw on the lanyard! We had an amazing time!

As far as collecting, we do Chip & Dale, UP, Beauty and the Beast, Minnie Mouse, Robin Hood and the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. And, of course, various other things that you just can't resist . . . like Tsum Tsums.

Pin collector here! I've been collecting for as long as I can remember. I like to get pins for events that we go to like MNSSHP or F&W, as well as places we stay. There's a Wilderness Lodge 25th pin that I like to get when it comes out at the end of May, for example. I also like mystery boxes because it's fun to open them. I'm working on collecting the Toy Story Land and Kingdom of Cute ones. I like to collect Chip & Dale, BTMRR, Up, Peter Pan, Toy Story and the Enchanted Tiki Room. I have all pins released for Mickey's Runaway Railway also.

Yesterday I went to Box Lunch and got 12 Little Mermaid blind box pins. I got really lucky! Only two were duplicates. We have 10 princess bows from Box Lunch as well.

I like to get limited edition pins also, but it's a little harder when you don't live by a park.

I'm kind of a long-time/newbie pin collector. :) I actually started collecting pins after my 1998 trip to WDW, but life got in the way and I pretty much stopped until our return trip last October. Now I'm back in, and best wishes for my wallet are appreciated, especially with the Box Lunch that recently opened practically next door...

My first priority is to try and finish some of my old collections, especially the Countdown to Millennium ones from 1999. I also love attraction and resort pins, anything from Fantasia and Emperor's New Groove, and ones with really strong graphic concepts. (There's an open edition Aulani pin with Mickey and Minnie playing ukulele that's won my heart, and I may wind up having to fly to Hawaii for all the luck I'm having. But I'll find it!!! :) ) I do like limited editions, but I have to *really* like the design to invest.

I've only been collecting for a few years and I really love animated film pins :) I am a big fan of unofficial pins and other pop culture pins too, there are some really cool designs out there!
