That worked! I didn't get the pop-up but it does say on the application about the welcome offer not available if I've gotten it in the past. I'm hesitant to pull the trigger if that's the case... Should I call AMEX and ask?

You won’t get the pop up until you actually hit submit on the application. I’m guessing you haven’t done that yet?

This may be coming a little late, but hopefully it helps now or in the future.

Generally, we try to avoid “calling the bank.” This hobby operates on taking advantage of loopholes in the banks’ own rules and restrictions, and engaging in behavior that may be considered out of the ordinary for 99% of consumers. If you have a question, asking a community like DISchurners will most often get you a better answer than the bank. We often know more than a frontline customer service rep, and we don’t want to cue them into what we’re thinking or doing.

That said, Amex has two pop up messages that warn you if you are ineligible for a signup bonus, which as @elgerber noted pops up after you hit submit.

The first pop up is targeted at those who have or have had that card product before (which is your concern):

Because you have or have had The Platinum Card, you are not eligible to receive the welcome offer.

We have not yet performed a credit check. Would you still like to proceed?

If you do/did not get this message, you very likely have never had the card product for which you’re applying and should be eligible for the signup bonus.

The second pop up is targeted at applicants who Amex has identified as “gamers” (or churners) who based on their history with Amex cards and bonuses, Amex believes is just opening and closing cards for the signup bonuses, putting little to no spend on these cards after meeting the minimum spending requirement, and then canceling them when the next annual fee comes due:

Based on your history with American Express welcome offers, introductory APR offers, or the number of cards you have opened and closed, you are not eligible to receive this welcome offer.

We have not yet performed a credit check. Would you still like to proceed?

The best way to avoid the second pop up on future applications is to be a good customer and continue to put regular spend on your Amex cards even after you’ve gotten your welcome bonus. If you end up on this naughty list, the only known way to get off it is to put spend on your cards, and even that is YMMV.

Both pop ups tell you if you’re ineligible for a signup bonus after you hit submit, but before you actually apply. If you get either message, don’t waste an application and possible hard pull.

There are also a few in Maryland - I occasionally go to one in Annapolis.
I think we might have gone there once. Mexico Restaurant in Waldorf was/is the best. I never left there disappointed, great service and great food. It's been a few years since we moved.

The CIP is not 80K points. What are opinions about it going up to the 100K bonus points like it has previously been? I can wait a while to apply but would wait if it goes to 100K.

My DH hasn't activated his employee card for my new CIU yet because he was having issues doing it online. He tried it again this morning and I noticed it has a different number than my card. Our CIP and CIC cards have the same number. Is this a new thing? Or is something messed up with our cards?

just looked at my Chase business cards...CIP, CIC and CIU...different numbers on all for DH

This was mine and DD'S CIP as well. Is it basically to keep track of individual expenses?

That's great! For me, I had years where I went as often as 5 trips. That's a lot of Disney. Then I started looking for other things to do in Florida.

This was us as well . Lots of Disney then ventured out more in FL as well as other places .

Barclays successfully matched me on the Aviator Biz. I signed up for the 50,000 AA miles after 1 purchase on January 17th and the offer was adjusted to 60,000 AA miles after $1,000 on March 1. 10,000 bonus AA miles posted after sending a secure message asking for a match. There are DP's confirming matching within 30 days of elevated offers. My DP says Barclays can match after the 30 day window.

Just wondering was this your first Barclays? Only asking because I have the JB biz that I haven't used much since getting the SUB so it makes me nervous about trying for a Barclays biz.

@DisneyMandC that is odd about your Hyatt Visa. Didn’t you get it on the email mid January? That is what I did with referral to DH. I messaged to confirm spend when DH finally got his card and his is the 40/20 miles. Of course now I am weighing out if it is worth it to put $3000 more for just 20,000 more points. But then I do hate to leave points on the table. He has until end of August to make spend though so some time.

I didn’t use an email but used a support link instead, which was verified that it was that offer. Trying to solve this now!!

Hard to say what to do in your situation...I tried to come up with advice but this seems like a personal decision. Do you spend a little money to try? What would those points be worth to you? Are you factoring in the base points you'd earn vs. the Venmo spend? You would at least get some value to offset the 3% there...

Trying to solve it now with @WVMomof3’s help! I think I might have it figured out now as long as Chase doesn’t do anything else dumb in the meantime.

Forgot to mention that DH's new Bonvoy Biz came in yesterday. Ready to break it in at the mall today! Interestingly, it's still branded as the SPG biz. I might have missed the memo, but I assumed the new cards applied for under the Bonvoy name would be the ugly gray cards, and that those of us with the purple SPG cards were being sent those later. But I'm not complaining about another purple card!

Yes, AmEx is giving all Bonblech cards out as SPG until at least April when they start rolling out the new card stock to both old and new applicants. They said the Biz would start in March for new applicants but I think that's really March 28 when the "changes" start with the new annual fee. Existing ones will get it sometime in June.

Sorry, I meant to say the CIP bonus is NOW 80K, not "NOT" 80K. My question was, is it probable for it to go back up to 100K bonus points? or was that probably just a very random thing? Just wondering if I should apply soon or wait.

The 100K bonus was only in branch with a personal banker....and you wouldn’t be able to use DHs referral link....using his link you get the same 100k 80+20

@SouthFayetteFan gave the best answer:
The CIP online offer has ALWAYS been 80k since it’s introduction in Oct 2016.

There have been instances in the past of an in branch 100k offer which requires going into a Chase branch and making an appointment with a BRM to apply. BRMs are only supposed to work with higher revenue clients so the whole thing was very YMMV and talking about a “business” in branch is something many of us avoid.

There also was a targeted 120k mailer offer that occurred. There was a person generating or stealing others codes on r/churning which blew up into a large scandal.

Anybody providing an opinion on an increased CIP offer is doing so with absolutely real knowledge. What I’ve listed here are the facts as I know them and my personal opinion is 1) I don’t anticipate an increased offer anytime soon and 2) if anything Chase is due to decrease they offer sometime as it’s always been a crazy good offer.

@mmmears also makes a good point:
We often talk about how the CIP (with spouse link) means a SUB of 100K URs. Maybe that's why people think there is a 100k SUB (not breaking it down to see it's really the 80k + link of 20K + spend)?

Nope, I had the Arrival plus(closed)and the JetBlue personal.

There is a Chevy's very close to Downtown Disney in Lake Buena Vista. It's right across 535 from Hotel Plaza Blvd in the Crossroads shopping center.

There are also a few in Maryland - I occasionally go to one in Annapolis.
I go to the one at Arundel Mills since DH and DS have a D & B obsession.

Wow that’s amazing! I have spent double that on a single meal for just SO and I at Disney lol. Our next week long trip in June we are doing Yatchsman, Le Cellier, Shula’s and Il Mulino. plus some other cheaper table service. I’m hoping we keep food costs under $1000 for the week but I’m not optimistic lol
I love it...... my cheap side always seems to disappear when my Disney side appears....

I think we might have gone there once. Mexico Restaurant in Waldorf was/is the best. I never left there disappointed, great service and great food. It's been a few years since we moved.

I've never gone to that one, but I see they have renamed the old 'Laredo's' in White Plains 'Mexico Restaurant'. One of these days I will get in there. I went many times when it was 'Laredo's' but then they had a fire and closed for a long time, and this was quite a few years back. (I've lived close by for 30 years now.)

A little story about Laredo's - I used to love a tamale that was on one platter and would order it every time. One night I ordered it and it wasn't the same. The server who served me was always the same lady - if we came in the door we were her table! So I enquired about the dish and was told that Jose went back to Colombia. Is he coming back? Soon, we hope! Well, Jose never came back and my tamale was never the same again.

They also had Keno at the bar. I would play a dollar on 4 numbers before I sat to eat, and try to win my dinner. This worked a few times. $50 would easily buy dinner and a decent tip! Maybe 20 years ago!

Preparing ourselves for another car loan (insurance won’t pay out for another 2.5 weeks but we’re losing hope the van will be recovered now). We also have a few more big expenses related to the renovation that we’ll need to purchase in the next month or so.

P1 CIP 2/25
P2 Disney 1/30 (I know I know but he wanted it)

Do we have any options (Amex, AA) between now and end of May/first of June or should we just lay low until then since we’ll have the car loan to deal with next month. I just hate the idea of spending 1-2K on home improvements when the best we have is a 5% cash back on our old CF.
