Luck and Hard Work - March 2019 W.I.S.H. Goals

Not sure how it goes down on this Thread, but thought I would share my current fitness goal.

I am going on my first cruise, leaving May 6th, and wanted to get really fit. So my current goal is to be able to run 5 miles in 40 minutes (or 8 minutes per mile), and complete 10 pull-ups.

Today was a 'test' day, and I was able to do 9:31 per mile, and 7.67 pull-ups (averaged over 3 reps). I ran on a treadmill, when I usually run outside. I figured it would be better for auditing purposes if I was consistent with the running venue.

So I am happy with my progress, but have a lot of work to do. The next 'test' is April 10th. Hopefully in the meantime I can run outside more. I work in Center City Philadelphia, and LOVE running on the Schuylkill trail during lunch, and sometimes the Art Museum Steps.

:welcome: When we join we share our goals - we generally share our month specific goals and anything we are comfortable sharing about overall goals or how we got to where we are. We then chat and respond to topic/conversation prompts from our host. Hope you enjoy your first cruise - my family had mixed feelings about our first cruise last year :rotfl:

What's motivating you this Monday?

I need to refocus on what SHOULD be motivating me ... the last couple of weeks have been a little more hit and miss. Tonight for example I was in a meeting that went long e.g. after 7pm so with 2 kids at home waiting for food - I hit take-out on the way home for everyone. So I am going to refocus from tomorrow for the week - on my health goals.

Thank You! May I ask what you did not care for as much? Not that a four night cruise is a mini-vacation, but we were looking for a sort of mini-vacation prior to our WDW in August. So we thought we would give it a try!

I'm back from my long weekend, which was more restorative than the week I had off earlier... Thurs/Fri I was driving to or at my Sister's, she's doing well and we had some of the best conversations we've ever had. Sat/Sun were at home, for the most part I did very little then Sunday afternoon I finally got going and organized the craft room, went thru my dresser again pulling out old clothing, and sorted thru the bookcase. I think I'm going to make a quick run to Goodwill to drop things off this evening, to get it all out of the house.

I didn't even get close to my step goals, yesterday I forgot to put my FitBit on, but I did go to IKEA so I know I got some steps in. Water consumption was probably down a bit as well. I was going to have to travel this week, but then looked at all we have to accomplish for the next part of the project and said nope, we all need to be here in the office this week. So I'm going to buckle down and end the month on a high note, healthy living wise... so let's say my motivation this week is that it's the last week of the month.

I continue to be motivated by my July Disney trip. We were talking about magic band colors this weekend, so it sort of brought a new spark of excitement.
I am also motivated by my success. I can see and feel the results of my workouts and nutritional goals, which motivates me to continue. And I'm finding ways to balance my good nutrition while still allowing for some cheats, which makes it easier to stick with it.
I am also motivated and kept accountable by this group. You are all so inspiring with how open you are to share whats working for you as well as what isn't. Its great to have a place to share frustrations and successes! We're all on our own journeys, yet we're never really alone since we share here.

C4A74DF4-5F62-4ECD-88F6-5B82558DB568.jpeg I have finally gotten back into the walking habit and just feel better! Getting outside is good for my mental and physical health. Today is the first day I have missed in quite a while because we drove home from the beach and it was raining. But tomorrow looks good as does the rest of the week for getting out.

Here’s a picture of the beach from yesterday-just the way we like it-empty!

Gorgeous!

@sjrec I was just telling another teacher that I wish I had a getaway place for the weekends. She has a place in Ocean City, NJ and was just there for the weekend. I always feel like I need a little getaway in March. It's just such a long month at school. And when I mentioned it to my kids, they both responded with, "Why would you want to go to the beach now? It's not summer!" Ugh. They don't get it. But that picture says it all and it looks amazing!

I'm not sure what @4Mickeys thoughts are. But my family has done one Disney cruise back in 2016. And due to the cost, I was actually worried that I would want to book another right away. Don't get me wrong. We had a great time. But we did the week-long western Caribbean cruise and I think maybe it was just too long in such a small room. We've never done any other cruise, so we have nothing to compare it to. From what I hear, our room was big compared to other cruise lines. So it wasn't anything specific to Disney cruise I suppose. However, we absolutely loved the shows, the food, the service, the tweens club, the Navigator app and Castaway Cay! The pools onboard were usually over crowded, but we didn't really mind that. We enjoyed the water coaster first thing before it got too crowded, then we usually found lounge chairs up top, away from the pools. We did say we would do it again, but probably for a shorter time. I didn't feel that urge to go right back. My husband also gets motion sick, so there was one night that wasn't so great for him. We actually just started talking about possibly planning another one within the next couple years. My husband is always exhausted after our Disney World trips and he was thinking the cruise might be a nice way to relax after a busy Disney World trip. So maybe that's what we'll try next...

One of my eight year old grandson’s friends asked him why we go to the beach in the winter, and he told him “because it’s awesome!” And it is!

How is the coming of spring (or fall, if you're in the Southern Hemisphere) affecting your health goals and plans?

Also, we'll be looking for a host for April. :) - If you might have time to facilitate our discussion in April, please think about it!

I am going with my sister, and we changed cruises from a Key West/Cuba to Bahamas (which is much cheaper) to have a balcony. The inside room just looked so small, and this was we can enjoy as much as possible.

We did an Eastern Caribbean cruise a few years ago and had a balcony. We loved it! Nothing like sitting out there early morning or early evening. If we ever cruise again I would only book a room with a balcony. Are you cruising with Disney? They have a beautiful spa and my husband ended up showering there every day after enjoying the facilities. The adult pool was not overcrowded and they were very good about keeping it adults only.
We’re at the point where we like to go and unpack for a week or two in the same place, but we really enjoyed our cruise.

I really do feel like I'm coming back alive, waking up like the rest of the world around me is, so I am becoming much more active. It is so nice to still have sunlight in the evenings now. I didn't make it to Goodwill last night, but did get more grass seed sown out in the front yard, ran to the grocery store, got the trash out and did the laundry. The new TV stand arrived and I got it out of the box, but not put together... I'll tackle that tonight.

And I know my food wantings will shift soon, from heavier cooked meals to lighter fresh salads. Hallelujah for that!

I think the warmer weather helps keep me focused because it reminds me I’ll be putting my knit pants and fleece pullovers away soon. Last year everything was tight or just didn’t fit and I had to buy some things in a larger size. Not doing that again!

We're on Royal Caribbean, Navigator of the Seas. Its leaves Miami, and stops in Nassau and Cococay. DCL was simply way too expensive. The ship looks amazing and basically has a water park on it!

We're especially looking forward to seeing the islands as the sun comes up. We're early risers even on vacation. I am starting to learn more about the ship now, so I at least have some idea where to go.
