I'm back from my 38 1/2 hour trip to California! It was not fun but it's done!

From a cc standpoint, went to Savemart and bought a $500 GOC gift card so that will be 2024 MRs, whoo hoo!

Stayed Friday night (ATC delay so was in IAH for 9 1/2 hours) at the Hyatt Regency SFO in Burlingame, CA. We had a club level room and the breakfast was nice-scrambled eggs and pastries, fruits, breads, etc. The shuttle was efficient and the room was functional (although no bath tub, boo). Hyatts are pepsi product company so that was the biggest negative I can think of. Unfortunately I was there all of 10 hours so I can't comment on the pool or fitness area.

The Centurion Lounge in IAH was small but functional and I would definitely use it again. That said, if I'm ever at IAH I'll remember my priority pass since that allows entrance into the KLM and Air France lounges (which are next to each other) so I could compare and contrast them.

I was upgraded to a suite at the Courtyard Marriott in Stockton. It was large and while no frills, did its job admirably (plus diet dr pepper in the vending maching AND market) so I was appropriately caffeinated! We weren't there very long (17 hours) so I didn't try out the gym or pool, sorry.

The Skyclub at SFO is small but nice-adequate outlets and they had both hard boiled eggs and scrambled eggs, plus shredded cheese, picante sauce and tortillas so I had a good breakfast burrito while waiting for my flight. They switched over from breakfast to lunch as I was leaving around 10:45 so no insight on lunch offerings.

ETA I didn't check out the Centurion Lounge since it's in a different terminal-Delta leaves from Term 1. Maybe next time!

I flew United out and Delta back and Delta's planes were cleaner and their movie selection was larger but for the most part, the FAs were nice on both-more perfunctory on Delta, surprisingly, but I think my FA on UA was drunk; she forgot my order (complicated diet coke) twice before finally coming up with it prior to the flight. I think if I were to fly UA again, I'd stick with biz/first whereas I don't love Comfort Plus on Delta it's still "good enough" which is good since skypesoes really aren't worth a darn.

Anyway, glad to be home in the relatively inexpensive Emerald Coast...happily DH had a bit of sticker shock and announced "no way are we moving back here." I knew that anyway but happy he came to his own independent conclusion! Since I don't work anymore and he's planning on going to part time next year, our little piece of (inexpensive) paradise is just fine!

Also I used my Delsey 19in international carry on spinner and it worked fairly well for 38 hours. I am just an overpacker I think but thanks to @mmmears for the emotional support as I tried it. I will NOT do carry on only for a trip to Europe but a less than 2 day trip is almost do-able.

Awww, why the short trip?

Chase clearly doesn't want me to browse travel redemption tonight. I just want to look at flights for October and December. I guess it will have to wait :badpc:

Dh and I took our niece shopping yesterday so she could pick out some clothes, a swimsuit, and books to replace the ones lost in the fire. She seemed really happy to get clothes that could be hers and not have to wear all donated clothing. I really wish we were working towards a MSR right now though :o

I figured out how to do the pickup for Grub Hub for the Rose Gold $10 off today, but is there a way to do that through UberEats on the Plat? I'm guessing no, since that's the whole reason Uber exists, but I think I read something about it here. Anyone know if it's possible, and if so, can you tell me how to do it please? $15 doesn't go far here when we factor in the delivery fee.

Have read that it’s only certain locations. I don’t see it where I am. :(

I keep miscounting and I'm only going up to 20 over an over. Sure sign it's time to put the scarf I'm crocheting down and go to bed. I keep thinking I'll get it without recounting on the next row :teacher:

A couple basic credit score questions. Does anyone here monitor their credit regularly, like with Credit Sesame or similar? Also, how do you know if you need to request your credit limit be reduced? What is the income/debt threshold you want to have to maintain a good credit score?

I look at mine weekly now on Credit Karma....know it’s not 100% accurate but it’s easy to use...and will show any new accounts. My cards are paid online weekly so utilization is usually 0-5%

I reduce CLs with Chase if needed prior to applying for a new card to increase the chances of auto approval....mine are at around 20% of household income...from what I’ve read it’s suggested to keep them below 50% with Chase

Just checked in for my first flight with a KTN. It got both my son and me tsa precheck. We’re on the same reservation - made with URs. DD and DH did not get precheck. I bought their tickets using dh’s SkyMiles. I was hoping they’d get precheck also since last time DH got it automatically and I was thinking it was due to his age. *ahem* I am quite a bit younger than he is. :) Not sure how this will go down tomorrow morning, but the security thing really stresses DH out.

There is a Delta lounge at CVG in the same concourse as our gate. DH has the Amex plat so should be able to get in there with 1 or 2 guests I think? There are 4 of us. We both have PP but the only lounge for that is in a different concourse. It is after security, but it doesn’t open until 20 minutes before boarding time. So that probably won’t work for us this time. I was hoping we could pick up some breakfast before our flight.

For the Delta lounge you have to pay for all guests. Only the cardholder gets in for free. When I took someone it was $29 but that may have gone up recently.

Thanks. We have no idea what to expect. It will be too early to get breakfast at the hotel before we leave in the morning. Looks like we might have to buy food, unless our gate ends up being easier and quicker to get to from the PP lounge than what I think.

LOL my DH would probably disagree :rotfl2:
I was thinking you're sticking to four legged babies
If you haven't paid your 2nd year AF yet, then you should still pay the $95 even if it renews after 3/28 as that's what's listed on your card agreement. For people outside of the 2nd year, folks on 3/27 get a present of another year of $95, folks renewing on 3/28 and after get the $125.

That's what's happening to new applicants who apply before 3/28 under the waived AF offer - waived for 2019, on renewal in 2020 pay $95, then by 3/28/2021 $125. Everyone is on the $125 fee by that date.
Thank you! I thought there was more detail to this but couldn't find it for the life of me. I guess it's lost in all if the FOMO for applying posts lol

Have you gone into every member of your family’s profile with Delta and entered each person’s KTN? I didn’t when we first received it and didn’t realize that the airlines (each one) needed it. So I had to go to all of my memberships-delta, american, united, BA , etc and enter them for DH, DD, DM, DF and me. It took a little while but definitely worth having TSA pre check, especially at some of the busiest airports.

@speedyfishy is correct- only the platinum card holder is allowed in without a fee ($29/pp). I did the math and if my AUs used the lounge 6 times in a year the extra 3 AU platinum cards pay for themselves (plus all of the extra amex offers). If your family travels even a couple of times a year you might want to consider that.

Have a good trip :)

Wow. I was wondering if it was someone at the hotel since they had all of your info, but I guess they don't have it all. Scary stuff.

And, I'm thinking it has to be somebody between The Doubletree in Madrid and the Hilton booking site. Some kind of inside job.

I often used to get Sheraton or Westin emails from the actual hotels after booking through SPG. They would offer upgrades for a reduced price but never did they ask for payment of the existing reservation through the email. I only once took an upgrade to club level, because usually I would get their upgrade anyway on checkin for free.
