There will also be a physical Apple Card for shopping at locations where Apple Pay is not accepted. The card is made out of titanium, has no card number, no CVV, no expiration date, and requires no signature.

So... if an online merchant doesn't accept Apple Pay, where do I get a credit card number, cvv, and expiration date to enter at checkout?

As far as I can tell, you don't. But maybe that will be stored in the Apple account somewhere?

If you don't, this is a very good way to get a horde of followers to force you to use Apple Pay.

I think they said that information would be in the wallet.

@DisneyMandC thanks for the heads up about checking with BB&T about the promo code. I didn't have it but they added it. I couldn't get through their phone system (because I didn't know my pin) but did a message through their website. Once I've linked my C1 account, I'll pay three bills and keep a $1500 balance and I think I'll be set.

Can you tell me where to access the message to send it? I still haven't had time to call and getting them on the phone for DH's account before they close at 6 would be tough.

I thought about tulip fields, because I know there are some in Oregon and Washington. But they're in bloom now through about May, right? Are they still in bloom in June?

Not sure about any in Oregon but ours are normally in bloom in April. The daffodils are out now but the tulips haven't started yet. I follow the skagit tulip festival, which is where all the tulips are, and I haven't seen a predicted start date yet. Ours are coming up but no buds yet and maybe half height.

From a different card?

Right, an Apple Pay wallet. If the card doesn't have a number, cvv, expiration date, how would you add it to PayPal, Venmo, Visa Checkout, Masterpass, etc.? You likely can't, because Apple loves their closed ecosystems. (And this is coming from a big Apple fan.) But what if the merchant doesn't accept Apple Pay? Apple Pay has been out 4 years, and it's still not widely accepted. (I grabbed a Jamba Juice this past weekend, tried to pay with Apple Pay like I've done dozens of times before -- nope, they have a new payment system that no longer accepts Apple Pay.) If Apple can attract A LOT more users, then maybe they'd have some leverage to force adoption among merchants, but that's not happening yet.

From a different card?

Exactly. Then the Apple Pay card might as well not be accepted at those merchants.

Is PC'ing through SM still a thing?

Looking to PC my CIP today as the AF hit, and haven't PC before. Does everyone usually lower CL before PC? or can you lower CL after you PC?

Can you please confirm when I opened my account I added the promo code to get a $200 bonus if I met certain conditions?

This is the email response (took a few days):
Good morning, Ms. Havaneselover, and welcome to BB&T!

I hope you are having a good day!

Thank you so much for your patience while waiting for a response. We have been experiencing an unusually high email volume, which has prevented us from responding as quickly as we would like.

I appreciate you contacting us to inquire if a promo code was entered when you opened your new account and I am more than happy to look into this for you.

If you complete one of the following within 75 days of account opening you will receive the $200.00 incentive:

- Enroll in and receive two direct deposits of $100.00 or more OR

Please know that this offer is available for new BB&T clients who open a BB&T checking account and is limited to one incentive per household and does not apply to second or multiple personal accounts.

Your account will be reviewed between 75 and 120 days of account opening and the incentive will not be provided to you if your account is not in good standing, is closed or has a balance of less than or equal to zero.

Finally getting around to open Chase checking account for bonus. Am I reading correctly that I can fund with a prepaid card? Isn’t that almost as good as CC funding? Am I missing something?

Awesome!! Thanks so much. That makes my life so much easier. I was kind of dreading that phone call lol.

Oh, this is in my plans for the week. That would be a kind of great use of some I have laying around...

Looks like it will be available in the wallet for use on website and in apps.

I believe they said you'd be able to see all that info somewhere in the ApplePay wallet so you'd be able to add it to other services, but I can't imagine it'd be convenient to do on the fly. So you'd sit and setup all the PayPal's and Venmo's but for one-offs, instead of forcing buy-in to the ecosystem by turning off users to that merchant, you'd just be turning off your users. What are the odds someone leaves $200 of clothes or $1,000 in furniture in the cart because ApplePay wasn't accepted to start "hurting" the hold out merchants?

Don't get me wrong, Apple by shear volume persuaded wider adoption of mobile payments, but I don't think this will have the same sway. There's too many other easier options out there. I think they're going to have a whole lot of people who were already using ApplePay, use ApplePay, but they get to pay out more now for them to do it. IDK, maybe they did a sweetheart on the merchant side to reduce fees for acceptance or something. That might prompt wider adoption and then swing the pendulum.

Unfortunately there's a whole lot more people out there with a single credit card like the Citi DC or the 1.5% or even their bank cards who'd say "hey, why pay through Apple on my bank card when I get more from the AppleCard?" and then switch their one card to that but then pull out the Citi, Chase or FirstBank/First-Bank/First*BANK! card when the going got tough.

I think the Daily Cash feature, if it’s as easy and immediate as it seems, can potentially encourage a lot of users to switch cards from issuers with more complicated (and not as immediate) points systems, and maybe even spur spending if the cash back stimulates immediate gratification.

If you're planning to drive the coast the one thing that may trump the cost is the side of the road you'll be on. Going north you'll have land to your right. Going south you'll have ocean and cliffs on your right. I know for some people that's a huge issue and would make any savings not matter.

There's several lavendar farms up here too. Know people that own one, it's pretty when they are in bloom and the sound of all the bees is cool. They seem to be popping up in a lot of places or are just getting better at advertising. They seem to be the new thing or something. I liked the tulip fields more than the lavender. The tulips are more vibrant and there's multiple colors. Going to see them north of Seattle last year was great. I'd love to see them in Holland where they have much larger fields. So pretty.

Hmm...ocean on the passenger side sounds good to me. DH will be driving and shouldn't pay too much attention to the scenery anyways, lol. Going south is more flexible scheduling wise too. If we went SF-Seattle, we would be limited to exactly 1 week from when school ends to when the cruise starts. And the car rental looks cheaper going south, so win-win-win, lol. This is for next summer though so don't have actual prices yet, I just tried prices for similar dates.

Yeah, I see now from DoC’s writeup that, it looks like, you can generate a virtual card number in the Wallet app.

So this is an interesting thought in that, will it really be a virtual number or will you just be able to see your number like a traditional card? Since they're harping on security I'd suspect it'd be more a virtual number for one time use than holding a static number. In that case you may not be able to store it in other wallets or apps. They could have done something with a static number on the mag strip only and everything else gets one time use.

This is may actually be an interesting case study. I'll be watching from the peanut gallery though :)

Yeah, I’m guessing virtual number similar to the virtual numbers that are transmitted and different every time you pay with Apple Pay. So DoC raises a good point whether paying with this virtual number with online merchants will count as 2x Apple Pay.

:offtopic: Anyone have advice for a road trip from San Francisco to Seattle? Thinking of doing a one-way car rental and driving to our cruise out of Seattle and then flying back (or vice versa). Looked at one-way car rental prices and while expensive, isn't horrifically so. Oddly, Seattle to SF area looks cheaper than the other way around.

DS wants to go to Confusion Hill (north of Mendocino) for the Gravity Falls connection. Want to see the Redwoods, Oregon Dunes, and maybe Crater Lake but seems a bit out of the way. There's a new Wyndham timeshare in Portland, so might want to stay there (we own and I'm a sucker for new), it would have a 3 night minimum though. Any recommendations for don't miss places or fun places for kids (they'll be 8 and 11 by then)? Or for good places to stay on points along the way or in Seattle (have Hilton, Bonvoy, and URs)?

I know @Lain gave an awesome itinerary (that I saved to my trip document!), but just wanted to say that we love Crater Lake. It is so beautiful! We were there in July of 2017 and they still had a tiny bit of snow in a few places. It took us about 7 hours to drive from Cannon Beach to Crater Lake, but it was a nice drive down the coast.
