Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Hi everyone! I'm going to be staying at the Polynesian for my very first time in June. We have a standard room booked, and I can hardly wait. For a first timer, is there anything that you all wish someone had told you before going? I've never stayed at an MK resort, or even a Deluxe! This is a great change for me!

Enjoy!

Something I wish someone had told me? Tough question I guess. You may already know this, but resort side rooms have patios on the first floor, balconies on the third floor, and no outdoor space on the second floor - so if that is important to you, I’d put in a request for a first or third floor room.

You didn’t ask, but Rarotonga would be my longhouse request with your view category.

I hope you enjoy your trip!

My only other advice would be to slow down and enjoy the Poly. It’s such a unique spot.

The Poly is our favorite as it's such an amazing resort! I love everything about it as it's such a beautiful resort with a lot to offer (great CS, convenient to a variety of dining options at the GF & CR, view of fireworks from the Poly beach, just to name a few). Hope you have a great time and enjoy the Poly :wizard:.

Agree 100% :thumbsup2

Thank you both! I really appreciate the feedback and sage advice. I didn't even know having a balcony or outdoor space was an option! Rarotonga or Fiji seem to be our hopeful choices, but I don't think I'll be upset with any longhouse. I've already adjusted my plans to dine at Captain Cook's, and possibly Kona Cafe for some breakfasts and arrival lunch. Now I've just got to wait!

You're welcome! Have a great trip :goodvibes.

Hi ya'll! Just decided to stay at Poly for our late May trip. We usually gravitate towards yc/bc but decided to take the plunge and do something different this time. We have a 7 night stay and this thread is making me so excited! I showed my son videos of the pool last night because he is kinda sad about missing SAB this trip, but the videos made him feel better. Guess I should read up on room requests. We last stayed a long time ago...pre refurb...and were in Tokelau which was awesome. I think it is villas now, though, right? 39 days to go!

YC/BC are very fun, but Poly will always have a special place in my heart!

What room category do you have booked? If its standard view, Rarotonga gets my vote! Its close to the GCH (steps away) and the best standard resort building for TTC access. You are correct, Tokelau, Pago Pago, and Moorea have been converted to DVC studios. If a balcony or patio is important, you do not want a second floor room. Only the DVC buildings has balconies on the second floor.

Great, thank you! I def will ask for first or 3rd floors since I have a napping toddler. Thank you! We are standard view and I’d love to be able to see the monorail zoom by. Will call with the requests. I am getting excited now!

Can anyone tell me if the sliding glass doors only have a lock/latch by the handle? Or is there another kind of lock, deadbolt, etc somewhere on it? For ex our sliding glass doors at home have a deadbolt you press down with your foot, which prevents toddler from opening the door. Just trying to get prepared for safety reasons, maybe have to bring some kind of extra lock gadget, since we are going to be staying with our feisty toddler who is also a really great climber and can open handle height locks.

The sliders have two separate locking mechanisms one of which is too high for a small child to reach--not what I would call a deadbolt, but one that a child could not open.

I still have dreams about the Thai Coconut Meatballs at Captain Cook’s. You have to try them!

Hi Everyone!

Has anyone tried the new(er) Asian-style Grilled Chicken Salad offered at Captain Cooks? We will be staying at the Poly in May and will miss the wonderful salad they had last year :( I would order it w/o the chicken and I am curious of any reviews. I can't find one anywhere.

Thanks!!

ALOHA!

Update: If anyone is interested, I did find a few pic of CCooks new menus items. The salad is served on rice noodles. I know they have arugula so I'm sure they could substitute that for the chicken! Posting a pic is not working! Ugh LOL

Thank you. I don't recall from our stay 6 years ago. I did watch some YOUTUBE videos and all I could see was the lock right near the handle which my child can easily unlock. I know at GF last year there was a high very secure lock for the doors. Just wanted to verify for when I make my room request, want to be sure there is a high lock that a child cannot reach!

What’s the Fax number for the Poly to request a room?

I stayed in Fiji twice and love the marina views, but might be interested this time in Rarotonga for the location to the TTC. What’s the view like for Rarotonga if it faces the parking lot? Is it undesirable?

Keep in mind that the Kona Café is reservation only. We were turned away because we did not have one.
