Well my friends, I had been in a bit of a funk the last couple weeks. We do the credit cards in a 3 player mode. DH, DM, and myself. DH was recently denied for the Barclay arrival, our first denial and :(. I finished mine more quickly than expected so Mom got one :lovestruc.

I went for a short trip to Orlando a few weeks ago and asked DD2 if she would take wallpaper off DD1’s walls and paint. :magnify: That room is now down to the studs, new flooring ordered and a more handicapped accessible escape route/window ordered. It is AMAZING how quickly we can blow through a MSR.
Well.... time for me to apply for new CIP. Denial:sad::sad:. I felt aweful. I’ve never been denied. It took 10 days of :sad2: and I called recon this morning. 50 min:scared::scared: and even though the lady was very nice I expect upcoming colonoscopy might be less stressful. CIP is now being expedited:woohoo::woohoo:.

I was able to get nice 2BR unit at Marriott Ko Olina for this December and was stressing about how I was going to get enough points to fly 7 of us there. This will definitely help.

These numbers are just making me green with envy. My goal is to get enough points to fly two people round trip on United Polaris to and from Europe in summer or fall 2020 and pay for all hotels (good hotels) completely on points. I do not have nearly enough.

So for folks wondering what to buy from Ebags, yes they sell clothes, and I wanted to add that they also carry a really wide assortment of Fjällräven backpacks that are (apparently) super popular with kids and millennials nowadays. I bought a nice pink Kanken backpack for my kiddo last year. I also bought a nice Tumi billfold wallet for myself last year that has 10 card slots and 4 hidden slots. So there’s a lot on there. I’m still waiting for the portals to offer 20% back though.

I'm not seeing the appeal in the backpacks. They are kind of plain. But I guess I am not a kid or a millennial. lol My friend told me Dakine is the hip brand. lol She did get a lot of compliments on it by millennials while we were walking around Key West. It did have a cute pattern. I thought it was the 7 dwarves, but now am second guessing myself because I don't see that online anywhere. But you really couldn't tell what they were unless you looked closely. I bought my DH a plain colored Dakine backpack and he loves it.

I keep meaning to ask @Lain, how is the Casper mattress? I still haven't bought anything but made the mistake of giving them my email. They keep sending me 10% coupons.

Just saw this as well. Unbelievable. Looks like they were doing some construction on it based on the scaffolding? Wonder if that's what started it.

Probably.

Likely loads of people inside since this is Easter week. I hope those folks got it. It's just burning to the ground essentially. Fire department can't do much.

@bernina ‘s P2 has a CSP. :thumbsup2
Oh wow - if I'd have known that, I would have highly advised trying for the CSP first in this situation actually. Ideally both will get approved, but if there was a chance only one gets approved, I'd have wanted to ensure it was the CSP since 75k URs > 50k URs, lol! (Especially since they already have a CSR too it appears so the 1.5x is already available). Hopefully it's a non-issue though.

I can't keep up with you all! :) I wanted to personally comment and thank those of you who answered my questions and helped us get started, but that was 100 + pages ago.

We had to call recon last week on DH's CIP because we are moving and one card had the new address, but our other Chase cards still had the old. Had to go to a branch to prove DH was DH, and then were approved. Expedited the card and received it Tuesday. We already met the MSR. :scared: In all fairness, we are buying furniture for our new AirBnB, so we knew we could spend it quickly.

New question - DH has the CSR, and I will apply for the CSP. But, if I open a CIP as well, do I need to wait 3 months for my CSP?? I didn't know if Chase needed business and personal cards spread out like they do personal ones. I already made sure my Chase credit limits were low enough - just didn't know how to space the applications. Hope that made sense.

Thanks!!!!!
I think you'll find this comment I'll quote below on application timing & velocity to be helpful. This is definitely a guide and you can go quicker than this if you want, but most of us here advise taking it slightly slower. Only you can weigh your shutdown risks and whether it's worth accelerating the timeline or not... :)

I agree that we don't want to cause a panic here - but I think that those of us who like to hand out advice, we should be careful with the pacing recommendations again. The worst thing we can do to a newbie is get them shutdown for application velocity. These are obviously two isolated incidents but I would probably continue to recommend the following timelines (or caution somebody if they desire to move faster). I'd rather they move faster because THEY want to and they know the risks vs. me being the cause of a shutdown:
  • minimum 2 months between applications of 2 Chase Personal Cards (only exception would be a modified double dip which requires two cards in 2 days - and in that instance I would attempt to have a "quiet" credit report for the preceding 3-4 months)
  • minimum 3 months between applications of 2 Chase Biz Cards
  • minimum 2 months between applications of a Chase Biz Card (first) and a Chase Personal card (second)
  • Ideally a minimum 3 month "quiet" period before any Chase business application (2 months potentially ok though)
  • You also want to watch how many other issuer applications you're putting in and what inquiries that is putting out there. AMEX seems to sometimes not do a hard pull which is nice. EXAMPLE: You may want to exercise caution applying for a Chase card with inquiries from AMEX, Citi and Wells Fargo in the past 3 weeks...
  • Watch out for showing high balances on your credit report - consider paying down cards early (especially in the weeks preceding an application)
  • Keep in mind that Chase can see ALL personal cards you applied for. Don't go hog wild with 4 new cards from other issuers and then think they'll be perfectly fine to give you another card (we don't have anybody here that really appears to be doing that)
  • It still does not seem that TOTAL Chase cards plays any role in this, I have 7 open Chase cards and my wife has 10 and I don't have a lot of worry there.
  • I would continue to reduce Credit Limits and keep them at a reasonable level - it's harder to be a "huge credit risk" if I don't have large limits that I could rack up and "bust-out" on...
Just some scattered thoughts - I don't think Shutdown risk is any higher than it was before, But I also don't think the risk ever went away. Just continue to play the game safely! Even though the majority of people can get reinstated on a shutdown...you just don't want the hassle of going through it!

Congrats - way to go fighting for that card! Business recon is no joke, but it's worth it to keep the points rolling in!! You should be proud :)
