Booking DVC Less Than 30 days Prior

I know that it is unlikely that rooms will be available at 31 days prior, but I seem to remember there being provisions that take those rooms out of our available-for-booking inventory at 30 days. However, a Google search didn't yield me the answers I'm looking for this afternoon. (All the results are about holding accounts and about modifying or cancelling a current reservation. Maybe I am using the wrong words.) Perhaps my memory is faulty. It is allowing me to try to book SSR for later this week.

Can someone please recollect my memory about what's special about trying to book DVC less than 30 days prior?

I had a lot of luck piecing my 8 night BLT studio in January getting the last days about and within 30 days. I took it as since if people cancel after 30 days their points go into holding. I stalked the RAT and saw a lot of a availability open up close to and within 30 days.

You can book within 30 days. You have to be careful, because if you make any changes, you risk sending points to holding status. Specifically, if you make a change that uses less points.

At 60 days any rooms still available can go to breakage and be rented out for cash thru cro. It does not mean they will be though or at least not all.

If you are a DVC member, you can see what is available up to 60 days out. Most of the time, it is Aulani, HHI, VB, maybe SSR. Today I was looking at that just for grins and saw a few days of OKW and SSR available. Usually not much more than a few days. But by 30 days out, there isn't much left.

With almost nothing to book at WDW how does DVC expect you to use your points in holding? Seems they want you to lose them. They should just let you bank them.

I've found that you don't need to be logged in to see the "0-60 day availability snapshot".

vacationer1954 - this will give you some idea of what's left 60 days or less prior to arrival. It's updated once a week and is just a snapshot in time. It's rare to see any studios on the list.

Banking has to be balanced with borrowing, and that would throw the system out of balance.
I think Vero Beach, Hilton Head and Aulani all throw the system out of balance, more than banking and borrowing does. I think most see those points as cheap points to uses at WDW and will gladly stay at whichever resort they can. Those points can be very affordable in the short run, less than 10 years.

Exchanging is a different balance from banking and borrowing, and has its own control measures just like banking and borrowing has.

I've had holding points a few times and had no issues getting them used. Timing and flexibility all help.

Considering that DVC has no other penalties for cancellations until day of arrival and no charges for canceling or changing I think it is more than generous. I also don't think it's about benefiting DVC. An owner has been booked into a room for perhaps 10 to almost 11 months and nobody else had had access to it. Now that owner cancels and in a system that you are supposed to plan far in advance that isn't leaving much time for others to rebook that room. In your scenario that cancellation could be the day before arrival with zero penalties? People would do that all the time. There may be owners waiting and hoping for it but there's the possibility it will sit there too. And it probably would if just the day before. 30 days provides a decent chance of it being rebooked. In between 1 and 30 odds reduce closer to the date.

That's why you don't plan a trip at the end of your UY if you think you might have to cancel. It gives you no time to book a replacement trip. Or nothing available to book a replacement trip.

Yup, unfortunately not enough people consider UY in relation to when they like to travel.

Emergencies happen. You can’t plan those 6-8 months in advance. Weather happens, can’t predict severe storms in advance.
