We are going on our first Disney cruise from NYC to Bermuda. Any tips/suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated. We're hoping to stay at a hotel in New Jersey that will let us leave our car there and shuttle us to the port. We're also if we should book any excursions or just go to the beach.

Just saw your post.

We cruised Bermuda last October. I can not help with hotel, since we live in New Jersey. If flying into Newark check airport hotels. There is a train that runs to Path train in Hoboken, which you would connect with NYC subway or just Urber or a shuttle to port.

We went to Horseshoe Bay Beach on our first day. Shuttles are right a port, $6-7 per person. The shuttle brings you down the hill from main road right to beach.

The beach is gorgeous with coves to North of where you come on that are breathtaking. The beach has everything you need, rentals, food, bar, bathroom, shower and changing area. When you want to go back to the ship the vans are lined up to go back.

The port area has a lot to do. There is the fort with the Bermuda Maritime Museum. There is also Dolphin Quest Bermuda and a Snorkel Park. Plus, a lot of water excursions leave right from that area.
There is the West End Trolley Tour of the area, plus shopping and restaurants.

On the second day we did the tour of the island, which stops at the Gibb Lighhouse, Hamilton, Saint George and a few other areas. It was a great tour, impart because our driver/tour guide was fantastic.

The water is not to be missed in Bermuda. Have a wonderful time.

Are you driving to the port, or are you flying and renting a car? If #2, I would suggest not renting the car and relying on public transportation the whole time. If #1, there are offsite parking lots that are cheaper, e.g. this one that is $29/day. There's also this website you can try to find a hotel that includes long-term parking.

I agree....the Manhattan port charges $40 per day so any other option would be better unless you want pure convenience in parking there.

We're driving from PA & we're hoping to find a hotel in NJ that provides a shuttle to the port.

DMLANI - when is you Bermuda cruise? We are booked for October 12, 2019. It's our 1st DCL cruise. We're also from PA. Will be driving up that morning. Not my 1st choice, but DD declined paying for a hotel in NJ for a 3 hour drive. Just hope we have no delays.

I am sailing on the Sept 25th Cruise out of NYC this year. Also coming from PA, Harrisburg Area. I've found the best way to get to port is Train into Penn Station and Lyft to Port. Its about $47 into Penn Station and $18 Lyft.

Thanks for this information. Not finding a lot on Bermuda stops.

We live in NJ and will be doing the Oct 12th, 2019 sailing.
I used to commute to/from NYCity and there are a variety of transportation options, each with their own level of expense, convenience, complexity, and variability.

On October 12th, we will be parking for 5~6 days at one of the NJTransit parking lots and taking a morning train (it's Saturday, so fewer "expresses") into PennStation NYCity.
Depending on the weather, we may try a combination of subway, bus or walking to travel the 1.6 miles (Manhattan distance) between 9th Ave and 33rd and the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.
https://www.google.com/maps/dir/40....047c3638d1!2m2!1d-73.9980144!2d40.7656735!3e3Taxi is fine too ($10~$12, depending on traffic and luggage).

There are some interesting options if one wants to stay in NJ near one of the NYC Waterway terminals and take a combination of ferry along with their free shuttle bus service as well.
https://www.nywaterway.com/UserFiles/Files/Hudson River Peak Ferry Map.pdfThe Manhattan Cruise terminal is approximately 1/4 mile north of the main midtown ferry terminal at 39th St, so it's an easy walk on the "Greenway"

So in my mind, the convenience of getting off the ship and taking the elevator upstairs to get to your car, with a minimum hassle of baggage transfer, and then paying the $200+ parking charge (somehow, they will figure out a way to charge you for more than 5 days for a 5 day cruise - it's New York), will be lessened when you pull out onto 12th Ave and try to cross the Hudson River (no toll going to NJ, but you will be paying $15 or so for the NJ=>NYC crossing). Likely, there will be traffic and delays.

Not trying to tell you what to do, but depending on where you are traveling from, whether you want to have a visit in NYC before/after, and your comfort (depends on #people and luggage) parking at an intermediate location and then transferring to other transportation . . . there may be other options. Otherwise, enjoy the drive and chalk up the tolls and parking charges to the cost-of-a-cruise.

Oct. 27 2020. Wish it was sooner

We're travelling from Pittsburgh. I'm trying to avoid driving in NYC traffic. We're going to come in one day early to sightsee before the cruise.

We are going Sept 25th and staying in NYC at the Marriott Marquis for 4 nights. Something must be going on because hotel rates are very high. Keep waiting for the drop but they keep going up

It is a major convention hotel in the heart of Times Square. Rates are pretty much always high at that one.

But also as a rule prices in NYC do not really drop.

Something is DEFINITELY going on in Manhattan the 23rd-25th. I don't know what it is, but almost all the hotels have a 2-night minimum stay that night and the price jumps significantly from the 22nd. If I were you, I'd go ahead and book a hotel because I highly doubt the price will drop - I've been watching prices since last October.

Highly recommended doing Horseshoe Bay on your own. As PP wrote shuttles are available at port and are inexpensive. Because we vacationed on the island before we knew the shuttles were safe and didn’t bother booking through DCL. We were able to enjoy an empty beach a full hour before the DCL excursions arrived and stayed much later (docked overnight so didn’t have to rush back). I would also recommend going up to the Fairmont (quick walk or ride on their shuttle) and enjoying their delicious scones with tea or cocktails. Their scones are amazing and buttery (not dry like in the US).

Have a wonderful time!

So there are close to a dozen or more public beaches in Bermuda . . . although Horseshoe and Elbow are spectacular. Some are much, much closer to Kings Wharf (less expensive taxi . . . and/or a short bus ride), for example in Somerset Parish or Church Bay where the South Rd begins in SouthHampton.

Horseshoe has public bathrooms, some concessions and A LOT of space so it can handle a tour bus (or three) of cruise tourists whereas the smaller ones would get overwhelmed. If the weather is nice, Bermuda is a terrific place to explore a little!

HI DMLAINI!

We just booked the Oct 27th sailing too! Did you find a hotel that offered a shuttle to the port? We'll be flying in from Belize, so need to also get there the day before too.

Thanks!

Kim

Hi Kim!

We are booked at The Hilton Garden Inn in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. We have the park ride & cruise package so they'll shuttle us to the port. Hope that helps!
