Walking Reservation Necessary?

I'm looking at the end of August at my home resort BWV for next year and it's looking like standard view is already being walked as the first day open for booking is gone in standard view. I'm okay with Boardwalk view, but now I'm worried that it will disappear as that is probably going to be opening weekend of Food & Wine. I've never walked a reservation before, but I get how it works I think. Should I start walking at this point? I'm a week away from my dates and I don't want to miss a Boardwalk view room.

If view matters, than I would start walking at least one week before, because remember you can book 11 months + 7 days, so if you wait until the you can book the first day, it can be gone already by people who booked 1-6 days before you and needed 7 days total. That's how come it's possible the first day you need isn't available even though it's not in the 11 months window yet to be eligible to book.

Great3

the people walking are probably walking to get dates in october/november. You probably don't need to start the walk b/c even if the dates are unavailable next week -- they'll likely open up as the walkers keep walking. Of course, that's a PITA for you -- so if you can get in now -- might as well join the party.

Food and Wine is now starting much earlier...this year end of August. Being that today would be for the 11 month window for August 18th, it is possible that people are just booking trips?

Of course, if you keep checking over the next few days and things open back up, the you’ll know it’s walking

I'll be needing a 2 BR (Dedicated prefered) at BLT in mid Oct. 2020. Just checked and yep, walking is occurring on the Standard category. Plenty of LV availability so I verified I still have enough points if I need to book a LV. I'll deal with it in Nov when my 11 month booking window opens.

It's going to be YEARS before the restricted booking for Riviera resales has any impact on availability. No doubt the PERCEPTION that it is causing problems will have more of an impact on people's behavior than necessary. We are our OWN worst enemy!

I will be walking a HH OKW GV for next Xmas a month before. I’ll wait until after thanksgiving as I don’t want to compete with other walkers for that holiday.

Not if you do it on the website, no reason they should charge when we are doing the work. Now if you had to call every time that would be something different and could result in fees being charged.

Off topic but I’m fascinated...people walk for two to three months? Holy cow. I can’t imagine the work involved in that. Yowzas.

I haven't walked that much but it isn't much work. Just log on once every 6 days and take 5 minutes or less to move it. Compared to the amount of time people spend on forums like this every day that's a very minor amount of time/work.

To the OP's point. Walking for BWV Std view Studios hit the level that 11 month availability was impacted on 9/16. It was likely going on before that, but there was enough capacity to cover the "real" reservations combined with the "temporary" reservations. On that day, the 11 month day was unavailable, on 9/16/19, 8/16/20 was unavailable, on the next day, shortly after 8am 8/17/20 became unavailable. By late morning, 8/16/20 did become available. Over the last 5 days, the process has repeated. So far, 11 months minus one day has always come available, so as mustin pointed out, you could get your room just behind the walkers, but that may not continue. Additionally, 11 months plus one day has always been available. So there has been a chance to get a room (or join the walk) at the 8 am Eastern lottery. I haven't seen availability disappear right at 8am yet either, but I definitely expect that to change. I personally am looking for a STD Studio in Oct. Since I am OCT UY, I can't walk over my UY date, so I can't do anything till Nov 1. I have been looking just to see what it is going to look like, and I was curious when the availability was impacted by walking.

You bring up a great point and that sometimes, things are not available right at 8 am and then a few hours later they are when those that are walking or just changing things out are done. I have had great luck with this, especially at the 7 month window!!

These walkers are going to eventually cause fees to switch reservations, :(.
The problem with the walkers is that you cannot beat them you have to join them to get want you want and this is causing a domino effect. As example for the past month or so AKV value studio has been booked but the days are not opening up so this is most likely not from walking. But for the past month or so the AKV 1 bedroom value has been booked but the days open up so this is definitely from walking when you do not have to walk.

I would book the BW view, then wait list the standard view.

Walking is way too much effort then i want to give to DVC.

I hate that walking even exists. It messes up the system for those of us who are just trying to book the actual dates that 'should' be available but are taken up by walkers--and you know that's the case as the dates become available a week later. I really don't think walking needs to be done for most reservations anyway. And not getting our 'first' choice isn't going to ruin our trip.
